I haven't seen it for years, I used to love love LOVE it. I had all the videos once upon a time (ok well the good ones, series 2-5)

DD has a penguin hand puppet which I christened Mr Flibble today, so had to explain why, and we ended up watching on Youtube. I laughed so much I had to send off for a DVD.

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Isn't it great sharing things with the DCs that you loved and know they will like too?

PS Can anyone remember where any "inappropriate" bits might be?

TBF it was in DNA, so he was human (and with a double polaroid....)

sjm123 · 16/04/2011 17:32

Red Dwarf is brilliant! We borrowed the box set of the whole lot from a friend and watched the lot with the kids.

Our PS3 online name thingy is Flibble Family now!

SomethingSuper · 16/04/2011 17:59

ilythia is your name from Spartacus?

ilythia · 16/04/2011 18:07

SS, yup. If you are on twitter she is my avi there too. I luffed her. Gaia not a patch imo.

SomethingSuper · 16/04/2011 18:22

Oh I totally agree; that Gaia was a right one What did you think of Gods of the Arena then? I watched it a few months ago- bit norty in places but still smashingly, naffly awesome. Can't wait for the next series Grin

BabyDubsEverywhere · 16/04/2011 18:35

I love red dwarf, collected the DVD series when they were released. I am going to have to watch them all after this thread, i had a major crush on Dave (still Blush ) Grin I watched them all very young with my dad, and loved the bits i got, all the inuendo went over my head until i was old enough to find it funny, so not really a problem, its not something i would censor (but i am lax by mumsnet standards)

Oh even thinking about it makes me smile Smile Smile Smile

ilythia · 16/04/2011 18:50

oh no spoilersWink We are at ep 4 of gods, it is ok but quite obviously written at the last minute. Not that I am complaining, that Gatticus' clothes fall off as often as Spartacus' so it's all good. Am waiting for Game of Thrones to start now Grin

Bexstar5 · 16/04/2011 19:48

just click to BBC1 cos Cat is on the judging panel aha ha ha

BalloonSlayer · 16/04/2011 19:51

I have told the DCs over the years that The Cat is Milton Wordsworth and the Janitor in MI High ( "It's The Cat! The Cat, I tell you!!") but they remain unimpressed. Hmm

GapsAGoodUn · 17/04/2011 04:19

Have been reliving youth educating my children by letting them watch Maid Marian and her MerryMen. The Cat is Barrington in that (complete with some pretty buff topless shots)

[shame] and [perv emoticon]

GapsAGoodUn · 17/04/2011 04:22

(Fellow Chris Barrie fans - have you seen him in Blackadder the Third as the French Revolutionary - he's gawjous..)

nooka · 17/04/2011 06:47

We got series 1-5 a year or two ago (our original videos got worn out) and ds and dd thought they were hilarious and had quite a few private viewings after the family one, and then got their friends round to watch them too (they are 10 and 11). Personally I think they should have stopped after season 5 as I think they ran out of ideas and everything got a bit predictable.

BalloonSlayer · 17/04/2011 09:16

Gosh yes I loved Maid Marian too and remember him in that as well.

I think I stopped watching it during Series 6. I was so disappointed. Then the writers fell out, didn't they?

OP posts:
coastgirl · 17/04/2011 11:10

Another up-to-series-6 fan here; New Kochanski is just appalling and ruins it for me. We still use lots of phrases from the show in day to day life, like "so you're a waffle man?" and "are you sure? It does mean changing the bulb."

BendyBob · 17/04/2011 11:13

We LOVE LOVE RD. I can watch them again and again and they're still just as funny Grin

ShirleyKnot · 20/04/2011 22:26

It arrived today! I am now in hour 7 of RD and in heaven.

PaganOfBologna · 20/04/2011 22:28

Oooh spooky, we're watching Red Dwarf on Dave right now

First time in YEARS!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 20/04/2011 23:07

I haven't watched Red Dwarf in ages! We were definately Dwarfers in our house as teenagers, but when parents split up she got married to a Trekker. Caused no end of arguments in our house!

is my favourite bit, although its in a not ao brilliant episode. I love it!
ShirleyKnot · 20/04/2011 23:11

Just watching "BACKWARDS" and spotted Arthur Smith as an extra.

Chris Barrie is amazingly good, after the Brittas Empire he vanished. How can that be? He really was excellent Confused

ShirleyKnot · 21/04/2011 00:15

Polymorph.

GapsAGoodUn · 21/04/2011 00:17

He went off to do stuff like Lara Croft.

imdb profile here

The kind part of me hopes that he needed the money. Sad

BalloonSlayer · 21/04/2011 08:18

Chris Barrie has always done a lot of voiceovers. He started out doing voices for Spitting Image.

If you listen to the voiceovers for the adverts on TV on an average night you will probably hear him at least once.

My Series 3 DVD arrived yesterday! Can't wait to watch Backwards with the DCs. (Have a sneaking suspicion that's a good one to start with)

OP posts:
BendyBob · 21/04/2011 09:28

OMG The Brittas Empire was brilliant. Why doesn't that get shown again on tv??Confused

I loved Colin the cleaner, always rubber gloved and cleaning up some hideous mess (actually a bit like me nowadays post dc come to think of it) and his collection of skin complaints Grin

Bogeyface · 21/04/2011 09:35

Can you spot Ainsley Harriot in Series 6 though?!

Hammy02 · 21/04/2011 09:56

LOVED Red Dwarf. I was about 13 when it was first on TV. I remember looking up what 'smeg' meant! Yikes.
