I haven't seen it for years, I used to love love LOVE it. I had all the videos once upon a time (ok well the good ones, series 2-5)

DD has a penguin hand puppet which I christened Mr Flibble today, so had to explain why, and we ended up watching on Youtube. I laughed so much I had to send off for a DVD.

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Isn't it great sharing things with the DCs that you loved and know they will like too?

PS Can anyone remember where any "inappropriate" bits might be?

*inappropriate
oops Blush

BalloonSlayer · 16/04/2011 07:25

Grin at all these quotes!

I used to have the book too, the novel. I read it loads of times. I wonder what I did with it?

I still remember the bit about Rimmer spending ages producing revision timetables instead of actually revising . . . "not doing it in a 'doing it' sort of way." I see that behaviour so often in myself and particularly in DS1, and am grateful that I now have a way of describing it. Grin

Ahh! I love it too. DS is only 15 months so I have a long way to go yet before we can watch it together!

But, I'm currently teaching him about The Beatles and ELO by playing it most days in the house. I think he likes it, he's always nodding his head when it comes on! haha!

streakybacon · 16/04/2011 08:02

We're working through Red Dwarf now Grin. Ds (12) is in hog heaven.

Our favourites are the Space Corps Directives Grin.

AlpinePony · 16/04/2011 08:05

YANBU. It was fantastic and now I need to buy a box set!

That's a plan for today then, source myself a "King of the Potato People" outfit.

Oh god, someone up there mentioned the mighty Dwayne Dibley! How have I lived without him for a decade (or probably two Blush)? Grin

BalloonSlayer · 16/04/2011 08:10

Just ordered the book on Amazon.

Will have to read it again myself first to see if it's suitable for DS (nearly 11) though Wink

Bit of an RD anorak here!

I have all the DVDs and box sets, all the books, all the models and all 4 bobble heads including the Dwayne Dibbley one you could only get if you pre-ordered the DVD game Blush

My most treasured item however is my RD Tshirt that says "Lets get out there and TWAT IT", which I deliberately wore to my mothers once just to see how small her cats bum mouth would go :o

Never been to a convention though, but I would love to!

IMO the inappropriate bits are really just inuendo, nothing fantastically bad. There is a part in Polymorph where Lister has apparantly just "Had Boneheads Mom!" but that would probably go over their heads too tbh.

Oh and I like Back to Earth, it was very cleverly written, but you do need to know atleast a little bit about Blade Runner to fully appreciate it.

Excuse me, need to go and watch The Good Life to bring me back to earth (geddit?!) otherwise I will wax lyrical about RD all day :o

SomethingSuper · 16/04/2011 08:43

Oh my god, I would love that tshirt Bogeyface! Are you the poster who recommended the Eve book to me yesterday! If so, I think we should become bezzies Grin

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 16/04/2011 08:54

oh I LOVE RD! I can practically act it out! Grin

Apart from the last couple of series. it got a bit crap towards the end.

one of my all time FAVES was when they got word rimmer's father had passed away cat saying he's hungry, lister shushing him with news that rimmer's dad's died, cat looking put out and saying "I'd rather have chicken"

Grin

Oh, and the dog and cat thing - about a cat fetching a stick? - fetch it yourself. If you wanted the damn thing so badly, why'd you throw it away in the first place... if that's not a cat, nothing is Grin

Bogeyface · 16/04/2011 08:58

Hec, I do that too! Drives Dh mad that i talk along when its on :o

Super, it was me yes! BFF then?! :o

Bogeyface · 16/04/2011 09:00

Here you go!

hocuspontas · 16/04/2011 10:05

Ditto balloonslayer! I loved those books, must try and dig them out. 'I hope you haven't spent your study day rejigging your revision timetable' is a dig I often say to my older dds. They haven't read the books so don't really know what I'm on about!

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 16/04/2011 10:17

YANBU Red Dwarf is next on mine and dh's list of dvds to buy!

GapsAGoodUn · 16/04/2011 10:23

I loved Red Dwarf too - can't wait until the dc are big enough to sit and watch it with me.

DH doesn't get it at all Sad

Xales · 16/04/2011 10:30

Another RD fan here.

Agree it went down hill after S6 but don't forget cant smeg wont smeg.

ilythia · 16/04/2011 10:47

I would say the books are fine.

ilythia · 16/04/2011 10:52

Oh, and my bestest quote

'I don't know if this is a good time to mention it, but my mate Ace is incredibly, credibly brave'

But it only works in a scouse accent, no?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/04/2011 10:58

I love Red Dwarf.

I still remember splitting my sides laughing watching the bit where Dave is getting himself all spiffed up (the one where they find Kryton and the Nova 5), and he sticks shaving foam under his arms instead of anti-persperient. It was just the look on his face and the nochalant way he just slaps it on his chin Grin

Oh an spraying paint the iron shaped hole in his trousers!!

GapsAGoodUn · 16/04/2011 11:41

I've just remembered that I had a "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast t-shirt".

Actually found Chris Barrie v.attractive.

Xales · 16/04/2011 13:40

Chris Barry mostly naked and chained when they oil him in Terrorform, that'll do me nicely >

emptyshell · 16/04/2011 15:09

I hate you all... I now have the Arnold Rimmer song stuck in my head.

SomethingSuper · 16/04/2011 15:18

He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer, more reliable than a garden strimmer...

I have been keeping my Chris Barry lust (which started when I first saw Terraform) completely to myself thinking nobody would get it Shock.

Tongue Tied is also just aces Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/04/2011 16:12

Oh thank goodness, I thought there was something wrong with me for having a mahoosive crush on Chris Barrie Blush

ilythia · 16/04/2011 16:36

I went through a phase of having a crush on all of them at one point.

Even Robert Llewellyn.

hocuspontas · 16/04/2011 16:38

What? As Kryten??? You need to get out more Grin
