In thinking this is a bit ridiculous?

DD has chickenpox. Not really unwell and carrying on as normal but of course, I won't take her out and about until her spots have all scabbed over. We live next door to the village hall and on a Friday morning there is a playgroup for babies and toddlers etc.

DD and DS were in our back (walled) garden this morning playing when one of the mums came to my door and said that she'd heard that DD had chickenpox and could hear her playing in the garden. I obviously looked puzzled as she rolled her eyes and heaved a huge sigh then said 'well can you shut her indoors for now as I want to take DD into playgroup and don't want her catching your DD's bugs on the way in'.

Was IBU telling her not to be so ridiculous? Not sure if IWBU or she's just a headcase.

That is ridiculous, whatever next!

oldenoughtowearpurple · 15/04/2011 14:17

she thought her dd could catch chickenpox over the garden wall? Blimey.

nulliusxinxverbax · 15/04/2011 14:17

YANBU. If you had taken your child to playgroup, that would be unreasonable. But to let her in her own garden?? NU.

Megatron · 15/04/2011 14:18

Yep. Over a 6 foot wall and about a 30 foot gap. I'm sure she will have gone in there bitching to all and sundry about me now (like I am on here Grin).

YANBU, she is a headcase.

Newgolddream · 15/04/2011 14:19

Seriously? She had the cheek to ask you to take your DD in from her own garden, because thats right those damn chicken pox bugs dont have fly about eh!

raffle · 15/04/2011 14:20

But did you not know that the common brick is a conductor of chickenpox? A brick wall actually absorbs the virus, makes it stronger, then radiates it out the other side, directly in the path of passing prats Grin

I thought this was common knowledge?

She's obviously got no idea about how viruses are transmitted or how infectious children are before the symptoms develop. If she wants her DD protected she shouldn't be attending a toddler group in a village where chickenpox is going round!

YANBU.

confuddledDOTcom · 15/04/2011 14:22

Headcase, definitely.

PeachyAndTheArghoNauts · 15/04/2011 14:23

Hahahaha

you encountered a nutter

Pity her, then move on!

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 15/04/2011 14:26

Pmsl

Megatron · 15/04/2011 14:26

Grin I'm actually sitting laughing away to myself like a maniac now, as I know most of the people who go to the group and a couple of them are very straight talking women. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in there this morning when she told them about my attempts to distribute the chicken plague to all.

PinkToeNails · 15/04/2011 14:42

She's crazy. YANBU.

Newgolddream · 15/04/2011 14:44

Maybe shes taking the phrase "theres a bug going round" quite too literally and is imagining big giant poxy creatures flying around!

dontjumpplease · 15/04/2011 14:45

This made me think of little chicken pox germs with wings flying about and 'divebombing' people! Grin

ashamedandconfused · 15/04/2011 14:45

I thought she (a total stranger) was going to ask for her DD to come play with yours like a "chicken pox party". the truth is even odder!

there are some straaaaaaaange people out there.........

jeckadeck · 15/04/2011 14:47

What a freak. Either she has series OCD or she's a complete fascist. Either way, tell her to take a running jump.

ShushBaby · 15/04/2011 14:47

Hahaha, what an idiot! If she's so worried about germs why is she taking her child to a playgroup, in which every toy is undoubtedly encrusted with a fine layer of bacteria?

Maybe your daughter should ring a bell to let people know when The Diseased Child is approaching. It's only fair, OP.

I hope she reads this thread.

TheMonster · 15/04/2011 14:47

Is the wall showing any symptoms of the pox?

Asinine · 15/04/2011 14:50

YANBU
She is mad and rude

whatsallthehullaballoo · 15/04/2011 15:02

What did you say?? What a loon!!

Shoesytwoesy · 15/04/2011 15:04

yanbu
so not

Sassybeast · 15/04/2011 15:05

Unbelievable.

2BoysTooLoud · 15/04/2011 15:05

YANBU. I'm a bit nervous about my toddler getting the pox but even I wouldn't take avoidance that far. She was being utterly ridiculous!!
