to think it suddenly seems 'the in-thing' to suffer with bi-polar?

This is really getting to me. Perhaps these 'celebs' really are suffering with bi-polar but I remember the days when it was the biggest taboo. My mother suffers with this illness and it is just awful.

There have been so many and whilst I really believe some I really do not believe Kerry Katona and now Catherine Zeta-Jones. Apparantely, CZJ booked herself into a psychiatric hospital for becoming manic-depressive following her husband's cancer, and now, according to her publicist is "feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on two upcoming films". Perhaps Ms Zeta-Jones should visit a real psychiatric hopsital (not a detox clinic) and see real life patients suffering with this terrible, terrible illness.

YABU

Desire69er · 15/04/2011 21:05

I have done some research into this condition myself and whilst I can sympathise that CZJ may have felt under a lot of pressure during her husbands treatment I tend to agree that 4 days seems like a pretty miraculous recovery time

apache79 · 15/04/2011 21:11

Everyone has their own opinion - and that's ALL it is, an OPINION!!! I feel totally insulted by some of your comments. As a BPD sufferer I feel most of you don't have a clue what you're talking about! So shut the F..K up and pass the "saugage surprise" Even I, as a BPD survivor can have a sense of humour about this subject! YES I'm MANIC!!! HURRAH!!! xxx

Desire69er · 15/04/2011 21:15

Please don't take this the wrong way but I sometimes feel that Bi-polar is the new Bi-sexual, everyones doing it

apache79 · 15/04/2011 21:20

Hey Desire, you're SO right! BI's are SOOOOOOO Greedy!!! Just can't make their minds up - but everyone LURVES "sausage surprise "

Champersonice · 15/04/2011 21:25

Desire, I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Apache, can you pass me the sausage surprise?

My sister had a boyfriend who announced at Christmas dinner that he was bipolar (in the context of a serious discussion about my cousin who was coming out of his 16th stint in a psychiatric hospital in five years and was very unwell).

My sister was out of the room when he made this announcement and I went to speak to her about it later.

"Oh don't listen to him," she said. "He's not diagnosed or anything. He read about it in a magazine and he and his friends felt it fit".

Apparently, in his circle it was very "trendy" Hmm.

I hope that wasn't directed to me! We found it pretty vile that a 19 year old decided on a page long quiz that he had BPD because sometimes he liked to stay up all night partying and he would often feel low after it while my cousin was struggling with debilitating mental illness tbh.

Working, please ignore some of the shite that is going on here. I apologise on their behalf. They always misquote, misread and misunderstand. Good luck. And I am sorry for your cousin and your family. Hope he is getting help and better now.

I have reported your last few posts.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/04/2011 21:40

Is it ok to discuss BPD?
At all?

Thanks for your kind wishes BTW. Been there, nearly done that. But cheers all the same.

steps101 · 15/04/2011 21:42

Run and tell, einstein, run and tell. People post deliberately inflammatory shit, and other people get inflamed? Fuck! Who knew?!

steps101 · 15/04/2011 21:43

Yes it's ok to discuss it. It's not ok to make shitty comments about who is and is not "allowed" to have a mental illness.
I've been there too. Glad you came out the other side.

hotcrossSES · 15/04/2011 21:46

Steps101 - I've just seen this thread and thought I'd have a read but your last few posts are unacceptable and I have reported them.

Ormirian · 15/04/2011 21:47

I was very sceptical. Bi-polar is not stress. You don't develop bi-polar because life gets nasty. And you don't feel 100% better after a few weeks in a nice comfy clinic

thefirstMrsDeVere · 15/04/2011 21:48

Im not out anywhere. DD is still dead, Im still living with it.

There are lots of different types of mental illness. I am glad I dont have BPD , I truly am but there are other disorder that we have to live with.

People do make stuff up. They make up losing a child. We have seen it on MNs. I do believe that people are capable of making anything up if they do that.

I wouldnt point at an individual and say 'they are lying'. I am not qualified to do that. I do think that people do it though. Some people will do anything for attention.

If this is a subject close to your heart I can understand your anger to some extent. But do you really, honestly think that its not possible for someone to lie about a MH conditon in the way they lie about physical conditions?

fanks · 15/04/2011 21:49

I have seen an increase in bipolar 2 diagnoses.

It can be a lot less severe than bipolar 1 and not always as devastating on peoples lives.

What I struggle to under stand is the people who want the diagnosis and seek to obtain it, and yes it can appear trendy. IMO it is over diagnosed to freely.

Bipolar is a bloody awful illness to live with.

apache79 · 15/04/2011 21:53

STEPS - oh honey can't U take the heat! You're the most bigoted human being i've ever come across! Your threads are so dull and crass and lack sheer imagination! Is the only cuss you can come up with, the word "CUNT"? Very imaginative!!! NOT! Grow some.....Need I say anymore??? Get a life! Do you actually have any kids??? - Me thinks NOT!!! Is your life SOOOOO BORING, you need resort to pretending to be a MUM! LOWLIFE!!! Coz that's what you are!! xx

Desire69er · 15/04/2011 21:57

Ormirian couldn't agree more that was exactly where I was coming from with my original comment, it's almost like the latest fashion accessory for celebs

Desire69er · 15/04/2011 21:59

And sorry I was away for so long, i took steps advise and went off and F'd myself, and bloody good it was too, the best bit of advice the skank has given I reckon
