To consider inflicting my feet on someone?

I run regularly and as a consequence my feet are horrible.

Blush

My little toenails are bashed to buggery (bad trainers in the old days) and when I go on long runs, even with good trainers I sometimes get nasty blood blisters etc. One of my toenails split a while ago and I have calluses everywhere.

If you haven't pressed the back button yet in disgust.... I am thinking of getting a pedicure to make my feet look half-human, but have always been too scared to show them to an actual pedicurist.

AIBU to go to a salon with feet like these? Always feel like a total oaf in salons and slightly afraid the perfectly coiffed lady behind the counter will at me.....

I'll bite the bullet and say that YABU for not keeping them in better shape in the first place.

You shouldn't have let it get to that stage. I run, go to the gym, etc but I regularly use a pumice stone, foot soak, exfoliator, foot moisturister, an emery board for the nails, etc. it doesn't cost the earth and it lasts a long while. 2-3 times a week would have done it.

I wouldn't go to a salon if their that bad. Google medi pedi (medical pedicure) and you can go to a chiropodist or something who can do a treatment as your feet are quite sore by the sound of it.

Or if you just want to go to a salon, you can clean your feet up yoursefl a couple of weeks in advance. Start saoking them, using a pumice stone to rub them down and then put foot moisturiser and pair of cotton socks on afterward and keep them on overnight. Do that every night for a couple of weeks and then go to the salon. You won't feel so bad.

If someone's job is to deal with feet, than WANBU to take your feet to them.

Littlefish · 10/04/2011 21:22

I would start off by seeing a chiropadist. It sounds like you need their more specialist care, rather than a pedicure.

GreenEyesandHam · 10/04/2011 21:27

Chiropodist!

Salon pedicures are nice and all that, but realistically they can't polish a turd.

Chiropodists will have seen FAR worse, and even if they haven't, they're trained not to go

'AAARRRGGHHHHHHHH...................EWWWWWWWWWWWW'

:o

MaureenMLove · 10/04/2011 21:27

I would suggest going after next weekend. It's the London Marathon and there'll be hundreds of people with feet like yours visiting chiropedists! You could also lie outrageously and say it's because you ran the marathon and they will be in awe of you for doing it! Grin

HandMini · 10/04/2011 21:31

If you're anywhere near London you could try Margaret Dabbs foot spa - it's near Marylebone I think, and specialise in problem feet pedicures, so you get an excellent combo of chiropody improvement and beautifying pedicure.

A1980 · 10/04/2011 21:34

Yes I forgot to mention that. I had a salon pedicure once and that was enough. They are rubbish. I could have done it better myself.

See a chiropodist.

RevoltingPeasant · 10/04/2011 21:56

Yes I know A1980. But don't you find if you make your feet too soft they blister worse on long-distance runs?

But yes, chiropodist it is.....

I will specifically ask them if they can polish turds, thanks for that Grin

I don't know, my feet have always been very soft. I'm also not a very long distance runner.

You don't have to make them too soft. a couple of times a week to take care of them would've kept them in a better condition.

MaisyMooCow · 10/04/2011 22:00

You should go to one of those places where the fish eat the dead skin off your feet....problem sorted!:)

RevoltingPeasant · 10/04/2011 22:00

Yes, you're right. I'm not this revolting in all areas of personal grooming, honest Blush

I run c.9-10 miles on a Sat morning and up to half-marathon distance regularly but don't know if this should make my feet nasty....

Everyone in my club just gets Minx and hides it!!

Maisy, I am terrified of those places, the fish on the posters look like piranhas. [coward emoticon]

Flexitol is a great foot cream. I put it on a couple of times a week before bed, and then wear socks in bed. It really helps to stop my feet drying out.

A1980 · 10/04/2011 22:03

Of course not Grin

Feet are mostly covered up during the UK's shite weather which is why they can be neglected a bit.

God you're good. I can just about manage 10k!

YouaretooniceNOT · 10/04/2011 22:03

YADNBU!

Visit your local chiropodist!

It's feet treat!

Well done on looking after your body via running etc though!

A1980 · 10/04/2011 22:04

Flexitol is a great foot cream.

I'd be careful with those. The main ingredient of most softening foot creasm is urea which is quite harsh as its base is formaldehyde.

I'd look for a cream with more natural ingredients.

Littlefish · 10/04/2011 22:16

Ok A1980 I'll rephrase that - Flexitol has always been fantastic for me and was recommended by my chiropadist. Smile

YouaretooniceNOT · 10/04/2011 22:17

formaldehyde Shock

RevoltingPeasant · 10/04/2011 22:57

I think formaldehyde is the last thing my feet need, they already look like museum exhibits. Grin

OP posts:
A1980 · 11/04/2011 00:03

If it works for you Littlefeet that's great.

But I try to avoid creams like flexitol as it contains urea which contains formaldehyde. It's too harsh I think.

pingu2209 · 11/04/2011 00:46

I would phone first and explain your feet and see what the woman/man says. You can guage from their telephone reaction whether to risk it or not!

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 11/04/2011 00:52

Chiropodist! They will shave all the callouses away and sort the toenails out and then you can get them fancied up with a pedi.

Fayrazzled · 11/04/2011 01:13

Flexitol is a great product and does not contain formaldehyde- it does, however contain chemically synthesized urea, which is used in other skin care products and hair removing creams.

A1980- "urea formaldehyde" is a different compound used to make particleboard, foam insulation etc.

SuchProspects · 11/04/2011 15:16

OP I used to run 30 miles a week but I did little to my feet and they were never bad. A few blisters occasionally and that was about it. My toe nails didn't split and I had some areas of tougher, drier skin but no real callouses. Are you sure your running shoes fit? What about your other shoes? Do you wear quite high heels a lot?

A chiropodist sounds like a good starting place, but once you get them in back in shape it's much more fun to maintain them with a bit of pampering than to let them go and have to get them "fixed". I got a regular extended pedicure every three months-ish and a foot paraffin wax about as often (with a massage) - highly recommended :).

agedknees · 11/04/2011 15:41

Do you think a fish pedicure would nibble the skin on my corn and make it less painful?
