Seriously, what are they trying to achieve? It smacks of a cheap publicity stunt to show how considerate they are of the poor people (us) and in (fake) compassion not to make use of their impressive resources and have a holiday in private on someone's yacht?
Seriously!

That's why they have a Press Office, a whole team of people dedicated to calculating what would offend the electorate the least...

theyoungvisiter · 09/04/2011 20:59

I don't mind them doing whatever they want with their money.

I don't even mind them putting on an act - it's what politicians are supposed to do.

I DO mind them putting on such a transparently ridiculous act. It makes me think 1) they are not v intelligent if they think people will believe they are totes down with Ryanair and 2) they clearly think the electorate are gullible idiots.

SardineQueen · 09/04/2011 20:59

Good ad for ryanair too, I'm sure they would have been very accomodating.

harassedinherpants · 09/04/2011 21:01

I read about it in the Daily Fail, and that mentioned that the nanny would be working full time while they're away, which I think says it really Hmm.

theyoungvisiter · 09/04/2011 21:02

What do you think will be next - Sam "snapped" shopping in Primark and Dave redeeming his clubcard points for reduced-for-sell-by-date curry? Grin

SardineQueen · 09/04/2011 21:08

Teehee

Pics tomorrow them both pissed by the pool, "happy hour" cocktails in hand, sunburnt lobster red Grin

theyoungvisiter · 09/04/2011 21:11

hee hee! And then Dave having an arsey show-down with the Ryanair check in lady because he's got a bottle of duty-free gin and she won't let him have it as hand-luggage and says he's got to pay 25 euros to put it in the hold.

FlaminGreatResurrection · 09/04/2011 21:16

Well I think they are setting a fantastic example. So much so that my family are planning to do the same thing this year instead of going fucking nowhere to the Caribbean.

I urge every MNer to write to Downing Street and ask to be included in this yacht-borrowing deal. We are all in this together after all.

CurrySpice · 09/04/2011 21:29

Everything that that twat does annoys the bejeezus out of me and this has made me even madder than most thinsg Angry

hocuspontas · 09/04/2011 21:38

It only works for me if they left their 3 dcs with the ILs. 24/7 childcare must cost a fortune.

Bumperlicioso · 09/04/2011 21:42

I do think this is a no-win situation for them, but I do agree with harassedinherpants.

mdavza · 10/04/2011 21:33

A no-win situation for the PM and his fashionable wife? You must be joking. They're laughing all the way to the bank in such a great position to do good. Greater good, of course.

Bumperlicioso · 10/04/2011 21:43

I'm no fan of Dave, believe me. But in terms of publicity it's no win. Yes they have a holiday, but if I had their money and a more than full time job, where the whole family are under the spotlight constantly I'd want two weeks in the Maldives!

CocktailQueen · 10/04/2011 21:52

Oh FFS!! If they had a £££££ holiday in the Caribbean everyone would be whingeing about them and now they're flying Ryanair with everyone else - everyone's whingeing about them!! They can't win!!!!!!! Leave them alone I'd say.

PS I saw the DM article with the pic of them in the departure lounge and the guy who took the pic is just an ordinary bloke, not a spin-doctor, so it looks as if they did fly Ryanair... ;-)

I suspect they flew Ryan Air as it is one of the few airlines that do flights direct, at this time of year, and from regional airports.

The above is the reason why we are flying Ryan Air to Majorca next Saturday. There were very very few alternatives available to us.

Hulababy · 10/04/2011 22:06

And last time I flew home from Majorca 18 months or so ago, a famous footballer was on our flight - he ended up sat next to MIL infact. According to DH he would definitely have been able to afford better than Ryan Air :) but he would have found it hard to find many other airlines at that time going to where he needed to be regionally.

Sanesometimes1 · 10/04/2011 22:17

smallwhitecat, if you think this is one of the most bizarre threads you have ever read on MN then I;m guessing you havn't been around long !!! lol

Kallista · 10/04/2011 22:17

The last time i flew ryanair the plane was only two thirds full so the first 6 rows were left empty - 'to balance the plane' apparently!!!

Matsikula · 10/04/2011 22:17

The thing that horrifies me is the thought of all those other people on the flight for two whole hours, unable to comment on the fact that the PM plus ten strong security detail were sitting two feet away from them. Imagine the tension. Would hwve been far more considerate to fly business.

Wowsers, I was kind of joking. BUT I flew back from Mallorca with a rock star on board once and by the time we got to Gatwick people were ready to explode with the effort of acting casual.

midtowner · 10/04/2011 22:33

I was at Heathrow on Friday and enjoyed the irony of seeing a former Labour cabinet minister and his family checking in for their business class flight to the US the day after the Cameron Ryanair story.

drivingmisscrazy · 10/04/2011 22:33

don't really care - but a bit Hmm about leaving baby Florence at home (it says because it's term-time in the sky news piece: she's only 6 months old!!) and Dave definitely has man-boobs. Ick.

partyhats · 10/04/2011 22:40

Did they go to Granada? if I remember correctly there are no other airlines that fly there direct. I booked a break away to Granada for my parents who can definately afford better than Ryanair and it was the only way of getting to Granada airport rather than Malaga which was miles away.
I am not sticking up for DC though as I think he is a complete twat.
