to blow-dry my tupperware?

Gah, packed lunches for my 4 involves mimimum of 12 plastic tubs for fruit/veg/carbs. [fumes]

They really don't dry off properly even when left overnight in the dishwasher and I cba to stand and dry them by hand with my Wills and Kate teatowel, so I just blast the top section of the dishwasher with the hairdryer and voila, everythings squeaky and ready to be filled.

I know it's a faff to lug the dryer down each morning and send an urchin back up with it, but really it's very effective and the DC love the bento-ness of their lunch and I do worry about the enviromental impact of cling film and foil used wantonly each day.

So, AIBU to stand there like a numpty blowing my boxes??

Speaking as someone who used to blow dry the guinea pigs' hutch after cleaning it, I would say no Grin

DontGoCurly · 07/04/2011 22:16

Yabu giving your kids lunch.

Everyone knows thats what cheez strings and froot shoots are for!

Punkatheart · 07/04/2011 22:17

I have blow-dried my wet chickens in the past so doing your Tupperware seems comparatively sane......

ChippyMinton · 07/04/2011 22:18

Anyone know why plastic doesn't dry in the dishwasher? My drainer is always piled high with clean but dripping tupperware Confused.

MrBloomEatsVeggies · 07/04/2011 22:18

YABU (probably).

BabyDubsEverywhere · 07/04/2011 22:18

I'm going to this from now on just so I can use the line 'blowing my boxes'

Grin
ChippyMinton · 07/04/2011 22:19

I blow dry the DC's sponged-clean school jumpers.

TragicallyHip · 07/04/2011 22:19

You're mad you are, mad!!

FlaminGreatGallah · 07/04/2011 22:22

On a PFB thread someone confessed to blow-drying her newborn's bottom (at night too - wonder what the neighbours thought?) so YANBU.

YABU however to have an unused Kate and Wills teatowel.

Shallishanti · 07/04/2011 22:23

just put it on the drainer when it's nice and hot from the dishwasher, will be dry in the morning

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 07/04/2011 22:27

I warm my feet and bed with hairdryer and also dds tights Wink

DontGoCurly · 07/04/2011 22:27

or put it in the tumble dryer on a low heat.

libertychick · 07/04/2011 22:28

In my uni days I used to wash my knickers in the shower in the morning and then blow dry them to wear that day as I was too lazy to go to the laundrette :o

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/04/2011 22:30

We used to blow the cot sheets before transferring DD from nursing in our bed to help her settle.

Can you guess which child that was?

I used to warm my feet with the hair-drier until I discovered these

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/04/2011 22:32

Do they double up as wank mittens?

[warm wunk]

ChaosTrulyReigns · 08/04/2011 13:51

I missed a trick there - I should have called the thread that!

What's the strangest thing you've blowdried?

[throws the question to the room]

On a slightly different theme, someone I used to work with ironed a jumper whilst wearing it. He ended up with an iron shaped burn on his chest. I don't know why you blowdrying your lunchbox made me think of that.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/04/2011 14:08

I've blow dried my toes. I had my nails off and shouldn't have got them wet. With naked toes, sandals and spring showers I didn't stand much chance.
Does anyone have a definite answer to the dishwasher question? I wondered that too, everything else comes out dry, but the plastic stuff is always dripping.

Tee2072 · 08/04/2011 14:13

Yes. YABU. Mostly for having a Will and Kate tea towel. The blow drying the Tupperware is a whole 'nother issue.

WassaAxolotl · 08/04/2011 14:17

Shock at lili2010 's work colleague

I've laughed at so many warning labels explaining that one should never iron clothes while wearing them. I never dreamt that anyone, in the entire history of ironing, could have done it.

Deux · 08/04/2011 14:22

My FIL told me that the reason plastic stuff doesn't dry is that it can never get as hot, and retain the heat, in the same way as ceramic and metal stuff.

So on ceramic and metal the water droplets evaporate off due to the retained heat. But can't happen on plastic.

I didn't do science beyond the age of 14 but sounds feasible. Smile

I did 'blow my box' with the hairdryer after giving birth, to dry my stitches. It was the midwife's suggestion. Gave DP a bit of a shock when he noticed me doing it. I'm gung-ho with the hairdryer now and even do under my breasts now and then.

Tupperware? YANBU.
