Maybe I shouldn't have logged on to Mums net tonight....but I have read many threads tonight re playground politics, re school-lunch box Nazi's, re frighteningly well dressed mums at drop off and am thinking......many of us are really a lucky bunch compared to what a lot of people are going through at the moment, tonight, right now...Libya, Ivory Coast etc etc.

And whilst I am not disagreeing with the sentiments expressed.....and I LOVE Mums Net...its an essentially fabulous place to share, laugh, exchange a moan, communicate freely, make a joke and to off load (which is oh, so precious) ....at the same time can we also take a moment to consider how lucky many of us here are.

Indaba leaves to put on her hair shirt and awaits comments.................

Yep, because the Phillipines has a completely transparent & accountable democratic system.....

I am blessed, I know that. From time to time I like to whinge but I can get back to reality quickly when I think that I could have been born into a third world country or into a culture where my clitoris is cut off and my fanny sewn up !! Sorry if that all sounds crude.

Therefore, I shouldn't waste a minute of it and should get on with living. If I get the opportunity to help those worse off then I will but you can't sit around all day in a state of gloom and doom about the world.

I think you are being very reasonable, I was stressing about uni work, bills, being skint etc earlier and had come on MN for a bit of a moan but seeing your post reminded me that if these are my only major worries right now then I am very lucky.

(and I did think the yoghurt thing was quite funny)

Well i'm happy not to live in a totalitarian state (china) or an ultra religious country like saudi or iran. I know i'm lucky to live here.

China's economic growth is built on exploitation and capitalism. There wasn't much of it before state control loosened up. It's basically a deeply capitalist society.. just don't, yknow, mention it.

I take a "moment" often when watching the news or some documentary and think how lucky we are and how lucky our son is. But that does not mean I will stop worrying about my families future. It is all relative, we can not do anything about where we are born surely. All we can do is help eg finacially or volunteering if possible. I will not be ashamed of where I live or the things I thrive for my family to have.
