AIBU?

Threads about a thread.

So what is so bad about them? And yes, this is a thread about a thread that was about a thread.

Can't see the problem really. Free world and all that. I find threads about threads interesting (sometimes). Who decides that it's bad form? The mysterious MN police?

Ok, the thread that was about another thread is still running, but the OP is upset because people are telling her it's bad form to post a thread about a thread. This thread is about that thread. I'm not helping am I?!

Flowerpotmummy, MN is a public forum. Anyone could see the thread you were posting about, and I don't think you were in the wrong to voice your opinions. It seems a little skewed that people got uptight about your thread, as everything you were talking about was out there for all to see anyway!

Don't worry about it, honestly.

I've been round here a while, and I still don't see the problem

think it's kinda skewed, really - while it's perfectly ok for a pack to dismantle some poor sod on AIBU, for example, a thread-about-a-thread is beyond the pale

Threads about threads can be a bit passive aggressive, when someone takes issue with something on one thread and, instead of taking it up with the OP there and then, they start their own pity party thread to garner sympathy. Threads 'inspired by' something on another thread are harmless though.

Threads about threads are fine, but links to original thread, or clues to it's whereabouts are needed.

Report

SpringHeeledJack · 07/04/2011 21:23

yeah, but anyone who wants to can take it onto Twitter or fb- at least if you start another thread on here, it's there for your adversary (if you have one) to find and continue the scrap?

MrBloomEatsVeggies · 07/04/2011 21:26

Yes, Miss Penteuth, but don't people spot what they're up to and then have a bun fight which is great discuss it?

Maryz has a good point, but if it were to happen that people started threads just to gether support for their own opinion, then that would be quite pathetic. And it would be a problem separate to just starting a thread that hea been inspired by a separate topic. But as soon as anyone sees that a thread may have been provoked by another one, you just see posts of 'fred about a fred - bad form', which means that a perfectly reasonable and harmless discussion has been censored.

I think threads about threads can be very interesting! Smile

Threads about threads sometimes alert you to interesting bunfights threads that you have missed though

Thats a good thing

Ooh, Maryz, I haven't seen a good bunfight in ages Grin.

I don't think the baby ballet one counted as a bunfight (well, maybe towards the end) as she was just getting slaughtered, which took the fun out of it a little.

But, yes, nice to see a good one soon!

Facebook and Twitter are the work of the Devil.

I might be saying this as I only have 4 friends on FB and everyone else has about 397.
