To want to have a mad rant about people who park in mother and baby parking spaces

Why, just why? its not so much that the spaces are closer to the shops but the extra space they give you means the buggy can go next to the car while unloading all the shopping, instead of leaving the baby near the road.

People are so unreasonable to park in them just because they are close to the shops, I so want to shout at people with no kids who use them but so far I havent..... have you?

Blush I may have slightly offended a work man by my language when he pinched the only available P & C space - in my defence I was by myself with screaming children and it had been a very bad day!

worraliberty · 06/04/2011 13:34

No, to be honest I'm nearly 42 and having managed so well without them in the past, I don't really see the actual need for them now so I'm not really fussed IYKWIM.

And never once did I leave the baby by the road...the trolly yes, but never the baby.

Fresheye · 06/04/2011 13:37

Hello newbie op Smile

pinkytheshrinky · 06/04/2011 13:38

I am quietly outraged by people with older (say 14/15 year olds) 'children' using the spaces. They are not because you once in the past had a baby or toddler.....

maGicGift · 06/04/2011 13:38

hello... ive been found out as a newbie! nice to meet you all x

The problem with parent and toddler parking bays is they tend to be located closer to the store entrance therefore attracting lazy folk who cba walking across the car park.

Unlike disabled parking there is no need for these spaces to be closer to the store. They would work better if they were located at the back of the car park with a safe footpath leading to the store.

PatriciaHolm · 06/04/2011 14:12

Puts hard hat on, battens down hatches, goes to make a cup of tea...

pamelat · 06/04/2011 14:12

would be more than happy for them to be further away (with perhaps a pedestrianised pavement linking them to the store) but with more space, perfect.

chocadoodle · 06/04/2011 14:13

What dolldaggabuzzbuzz said. My thoughts exactly.

maGicGift · 06/04/2011 14:13

that sounds like a good idea, its just the space that is needed, especially if trying to get the baby car seat out of the back of a 3 door car!

I reserve my ire for those wonderful drivers who park their car at such an angle that I can't get DS's door open, never mind shove him kicking and yelling place him tenderly in his car seat.

DingDongMerrilyOutOfSeason · 06/04/2011 14:16

YABU + YANBU. I don't understand why people drive to the shop and then need to have a buggy as the child can often go in the trolley. It is handy to have more space to get baby in and out, especially if they are facing backwards in a 3 door car so you have to climb into the back seat , however they are not a necessity. I do get a bit cross when I see people using them with teenagers or no childre as, even though they are not a necessity, the store has kindly provided them for parents/carers and it would be nice if people respected that.

Smallstuff · 06/04/2011 14:19

YANBU I hate it!! The worst offenders IMHO are those that do have children in the car but then the kids and one adult sit in the car while the other adult shops.... How lazy can people be!!!
I remember when I was very pregnant and had the other two with me who were 3 and 18m being physically unable to get back into my car as I had used a normal space due to inconsiderate twats people with no kids using up all the P&C spaces..... And then some massive four by four parked next to me...
Rant rant rant

MarianneM · 06/04/2011 14:20

Yes Patricia, fur is currently flying at the disabled toilet thread, now this. Can we have a BF/FF thread too today?

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 06/04/2011 14:46

Yes, what Dolldagga says - they are just needed for extra space either side so would be far better at the back of the carpark!

IloveJudgeJudy · 06/04/2011 14:47

Why don't you just park at the back of the car park? That's what I always do and have done. There's not usually anyone there, except at Christmas. It's much more civilised there.

Cher87 · 06/04/2011 14:51

I have confronted a man who parked in P&C in asda before! I dont think he moved so didnt do any good but it made me feel better and the lady parked 2 spaces down was watching and looking as though she approved of my outburst!

kkey21 · 06/04/2011 14:54

Just next time you see someone doing it, get their eye contact and smile and say 'oh lovely, i miss my bump-how long do you have left?' Hee-hee!

Mean me. But yes it annoys me too and have literally just seen 3 cars doing just this but wasn't brave enough to try it out!

EricNorthmansMistress · 06/04/2011 15:01

YANBU
Lots of people on MN think this isn't worth getting upset about but it fucks me right off. I need to be able to fit the trolley down the side of my car for unloading because there is a child sitting in it and I don't want to leave the child in the path of cars. Maybe I'm being precious but so bloody what. It's far more difficult when it's a baby in a stage one car seat because you need lots of space to get the seat in and out. I had a huge go at a couple once when I was PMTing and the woman actually said 'but we have a car seat' Twat.

dickcheeseandthecrackers · 06/04/2011 15:05

Just park at the back of the carpark. It's not worth getting into car park scuffles over a bloody car park.

grumpypants · 06/04/2011 15:12

I don't care about the space (other drivers should - ds has a habit of flinging the doors open!) except that I have to wedge my knee between the door and the next car to stop scratching someone's car, but it's the nearness - steering a trolley, a toddler and a no road sense older one is really hard with cars reversing etc in a car park. I have never taken a car seat out the car, just stuck baby in a reclining seat thing.

Geepers · 06/04/2011 15:16

I cant park at the back of the carperk because all the twin trolleys are kept near the entrance to the shop. Call me lazy but I don't want a five minute walk to get a trolley, walk back to the car, load babies up, then finally get to make my way to the shop, usually all in the pissing rain.

Long live Parent & Child spaces.

bellavita · 06/04/2011 15:16

Not another parent and child parking space thread........ Wink

PumpkinBones · 06/04/2011 15:17

You don't need to get the trolley down the side of the car though - I don't understand this. Put the trolley by the boot, take child out and put them in the car, unload trolley, leave it in an empty space put it in trolley bay.

louloudia · 06/04/2011 15:19

i love using them, so convenient

and if anyone says anything I say having kids doesnt make you disabled :)

in fact in Sainsburys it says you can use them if you have kids under 14!!!

why would a 14 year old need special treatment ffs! or indeed any kid under 3

so thats why i use them and will continue to do so :)
