DD's school, not content with having the day off for the Royal Bloody Wedding, are staging a mock-up of the event the day beforehand.

We have been asked to donate flowers. They want us to attend in our 'best finery - don't forget your hats'. The local church is hosting this charade Hmm

What a waste of sodding time and money Angry I mean FFS.

If either of my kids schools tried that I'd write in saying I'd keep them out for the day and do something WORTHWHILE with the time

doormat · 03/04/2011 21:58

from euphemia "YANBU: fuck that. Tell them you will not be participating and instead will be making a donation to Save The Children."

round of well deserved applause for that post....:)

glasnost · 03/04/2011 22:01

They've dragged us right back to servile serfdom. Tell them to stick their flowers or get the freeloading state hand out scrounging inbreds to pay for 'em themselves. YANBU AT ALL.

psychoveggie · 03/04/2011 22:01

YANBU. Maybe your child could be sick that day? Fucking nonsense.

Vive la republique. Or summat.

Cannot be arsed with this royal wedding bullshit. Wish they'd eloped.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 03/04/2011 22:02

I am spitting feathers about it, I really am.

What is the point? I can't see them encouraging any healthy debate about the class system, or the sense in celebrating the marriage of some over-privileged people we have never met and never will Hmm

Its just blind assumption that we are all fawning royalists who will jumo at the chance to spend money on fucking flowers and wear a fucking hat.

I actually might keep DD off school that day. Send a letter saying we will be doing something of actual educational value rather than posturing in a frock relating to the royal family and making a donation to charity.

Argh! Why are we all being expected to become raving royallists just because two people the vast majority of the population have never met are getting married? Don't get me wrong, I hope they're very happy together but only as much as I'd think that about any two strangers.
At work people actually keep asking me if i'm excited (????????????) about it! Who - I mean WHO - would be excited about watching the wedding of people they don't know?! If that's what floats your boat come to mine after I've had one too many wines, I generally get my wedding DVD out then. I'll even provide beer and pizza, which is more than you'll get from Will and Kate.
So in summary, no YANBU and thank you for the thread.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 03/04/2011 22:02

jumo I mean jump

Great idea euphemia!

bamboostalks · 03/04/2011 22:04

I think it sounds fun. These are the sort of things that children remember years later. Don't overthink it.

Grumpla · 03/04/2011 22:04

Right, so we're all coming to yours then jimpisone I'll bring the cheese straws Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 03/04/2011 22:04

Like the Royal Wedding.

Hate this idea.

YANBU

marmaladetwatkins · 03/04/2011 22:06

Eugh, how wanky. I would boycott it.

It's a wedding of two people that none of us know. We shouldn't be coerced into making twats of ourselves just because they are our "betters" The whole debacle is doing my bastard swede in.

frasersmummy · 03/04/2011 22:07

When I go parents night and they complain about lack of teaching time and then they do this nonsense I want to shout very loudly!!!

my kids school are trying to "celebrate" the RW on 14th April

they are asking kids to come in their "finery" and pay £1.75 for a "banquet"

it is just as well that is the normal school dinner price or I would be making a formal complaint by now

finery though ?

my ds is 11

he lives in converse and h+m jeans

I ain't buying nothing new

Skinit · 03/04/2011 22:09

Oh lighten up! Whats wrong with you people? The kids dont care about politics! They want an exciting day and to dress up...I suppose you'd all rather they sat in a bloody cellar for the day and sorted old sacks out or something.

Hmm
QueenOfFlippingEverything · 03/04/2011 22:09

How's this for a letter....

"Dear Head,

QOFE'sDD will not be participating in the mock wedding planned for 28th April.

She will instead be taking part in a worthwhile and educational learning activity relating to what, if any, kind of position and privilege the royal family should hold in today's society, and we will be making a donation to [charity as yet undecided] rather than purchasing flowers.

Love and hugs, QOFE xxx"

jimpisone · 03/04/2011 22:10

Hoorah! You don't have to wear a bloody hat either! :)

easterbunnyhopsback · 03/04/2011 22:10

My school is too.
East Monday, inset day, 2 bloody RW 'celebration' days, RW day off, weekend, May Holiday. I'd rather be teaching literacy and numeracy.

BonzoDooDah · 03/04/2011 22:11

I think I'm in love with glasnost Grin

Skinit · 03/04/2011 22:11

Summerbird73 · 03/04/2011 22:14
