DD's school, not content with having the day off for the Royal Bloody Wedding, are staging a mock-up of the event the day beforehand.

We have been asked to donate flowers. They want us to attend in our 'best finery - don't forget your hats'. The local church is hosting this charade Hmm

What a waste of sodding time and money Angry I mean FFS.

For what it's worth I was totally obsessed with the Charles and Di wedding back in the day (I was 5), we had a party that was lots of fun and we had a copy of the wedding on video and I must have watched it about 100 or more times.

I am now a republican. There doesn't need to be any lasting damage to your children.

Grin MmeLindt

One of our housemates is threatening to go to the 'reception' wearing his skimpy sequinned Union Jack bikini [averts gaze]

The Queen and the MIddletons ARE footing the bill. Apart from the police element and street cleaning. And given that many tourists are flying in specially and spending their money in the UK the event will probably generate a net profit for UK.org.

MmeLindt · 06/04/2011 20:04

I thought that too, Ab1de, but was not sure.

Look at the amount of money I people have already spent on tat tasteful souvenirs.

Asinine · 06/04/2011 20:11

Our school is doing this too. The letter says "we will conclude with flag waving and patriotic songs"

I'm hoping for "flower of Scotland"

So DD's teacher spoke to me after school today - she thanked me for my letter and said she could understand many of the issues I had with it.

However today, when they drew names out of a hat to decide who would play what part in the mock wedding, they 'forgot' that DD was not taking part Hmm and she has been picked to be chief bridesmaid. 'She's very keen' said the teacher, 'but not to worry if you still feel she shouldn't take part'.

I a more cynical person might think they did it on purpose Angry

marmaladetwatkins · 07/04/2011 16:01

Totally on purpose. All the more reason to dig your heels in Grin

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 16:22

OMG it just gets better - DD has just produced her homework which is a code to crack.

It is the national anthem, backwards.

SpringHeeledJack · 07/04/2011 16:25

bloody hell!!!!

Shock
MillsAndDoom · 07/04/2011 16:26

QOFE - I think you have been right royally shafted there Grin

paulapantsdown · 07/04/2011 16:36

At our kids school they are having a picnic on the school field at lunchtime and can wear red, white and blue if the want, and bring in a few cakes if they want.

I think this level of lunacy about the wedding is just enough - kids have a little party and a nice time, no actual sycophancy to Royal parasites Family.

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 18:43

[groan] @ MillsAndDoom

It now transpires she is meant to learn the national sodding anthem off by heart as holiday homework Hmm

Seriously though, is that not a bit, well, naff and unnecessary?

Gosh some of you are a bunch of moaning minnies..........ds is having RW afternoon on the thursday ............it is only a bit of fun and he will probably be king one day [thats william not my son]

zandy · 07/04/2011 19:01

Oh I do hope our children get to do this. I love a bit of history in the making. Such an exciting time.

goodbyemrschips · 07/04/2011 19:16

zandy...................Grin

youcangetpregnantstandingup · 07/04/2011 19:26

Oh for goodness sake lighten up, it's a bit of fun for your kids, it's not about you, it's about them - they don't understand the politics behind it. Think it's a bit trendy at the moment to bash the Royal Wedding.

exoticfruits · 07/04/2011 19:42

It sounds as if they are making an effort for the DCs and it is a bit of lighthearted fun-it is sad when people make such a big issue of things and spoil them.

MrsWitcher · 07/04/2011 19:58

This would drive me nuts. I'm still annoyed at the extra bank holiday and how that fits with the economic crisis. Hmm

And I suppose there will be all this crap again next year just because his grandmother has managed not to die young during her very priviledged, stress free life.

MrsWitcher · 07/04/2011 19:59

I think if school are giving a day over to this nonsense then they have no justification to say no to people wishing to take their children out of school on any other day for a family wedding.

exoticfruits · 07/04/2011 20:00

It is a Bank Holiday MrsWitcher-of course schools get it!

MrsWitcher · 07/04/2011 20:13

The Friday is an extra bank holiday though just at a time when the country cannot afford it. What about all the self-employed people up and down the country? Did the government think of them?

And the Thurs isn't a bank holiday so why give aver another day to this crap?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 07/04/2011 20:14

exoticfruits - the bank holiday is not my gripe

i am pissed off that the day before the real wedding school are devoting the day to a mock-up of it IN SCHOOL TIME and want us to teach them the national bloody anthem, donate flowers cakes and presents, and turn up in a frock and hat

sorry to be a big party pooper but fuck that

not everyone agrees with the privilege afforded to some people for nothing more than an accident of birth

not everyone thinks the wedding of two over privileged strangers is something to celebrate

OP posts:
goodbyemrschips · 07/04/2011 20:19

If you really do not agree with it, take them out of ''the fun'' for the day and home school them just for a day.

I am sure your kids would rather be home learning their times table than having some social interactive fun with their friends while learning a bit about the history of the royal family and celebrating out future kings weddings.

exoticfruits · 07/04/2011 20:21

DCs have their nose to the grindstone these days-do you really begrudge them a lighthearted fun day? (I feel sorry for some DCs when parents are so miserable and serious)
