ok this is mumsnet, yes we all post to moan, voice an opinion, vent or just ask for a bit of advice, there seem to be a good number of people who post down right vile responses. I am not talking about disagreeing with the subject matter, if you ask am i being unreasonable then you can expect a few yeses, but to be called a bitch and worse? AIBU to expect civil responses? i have an uneasy feeling that some posters are just on here to pick on others,

helen - it can be lots of fun, very useful and even supportive depending on the thread. AIBU can be bitchy as well as fun. specific areas, such as special needs, style & beauty, doghouse, chicken keepers, etc can be very helpful and supportive

Yanbu some people are very harsh of even the smallest of things! Although it's not just today it's been like that a while now. Some posts make the mind boggle with the sheer amount of swearing and hatred that can be fit into just a few lines of text .

It's not just today. I've been here under different names for a few years now and it is getting nastier. Not just new people either.

I have hidden a few topics because the posters who frequent those threads are so horrible.

I sound like a delicate flower I know, but most of the time there's just no need for it.

Ask a genuine question about hairclips and you get flamed to buggery.

I think some of the posts are really restrained considering some of the ridiculous threads some people really need to get a grip!

I know! The hair clip post was very odd. I had no idea hair clips were such a hot topic for debate. I will almost feel guilty when I brush my 3 girls hair if the morning and put multiple hair clips in. Actually I wont.

I don't think they are that nasty in real life, they're just being wimps and hiding behind the computer. Remember Sweetgilly? Theres no way anyone would be that well, strange and unkind in reality surely? (Really hope not anyway)!

Erm...strange for posting a thread about old fashioned values. Jeez.

I sometimes wonder if perhaps people spend their days doing their best to be respectful and nice to people particularly in front of the kids and use AIBU to say what they really want to say, with minimal comeback!!

Having said that on a serious note there is not a lot of appreciation for differing views e.g. some of the posters yesterday were scoffed at as it was felt that their posts were a fuss about nothing, that may be so but what's not important to one may be really annoying for another.

Also, is it me, or is there a real distinction on these pages between newbies and those who have been on here for years? I am not speaking about everyone but it appears that the latter sometimes look down their noses at the former? Why is that so?

How does anyone know whose who? I may have been on here for years, under a variety of different names.......
