AIBU and ungrateful to think this is disgusting?

It is my first mothers' day today (DS is nearly 5mo) and my wonderful DH made it really special, I got some lovely roses, a box of chocolates and a mothers' day card written with DH's left hand! I also got breakfast in bed - bliss.

However, my lovely breakfast consisted of two halved, toasted hot cross buns (yummy) topped with scrambled egg (bluergh!!)

Am I being unreasonable or is that a frankly revolting combination? I smiled and separated the two and ate them, but the buns were all soggy from weird scrambled egg juice. Vile.

YABU! I think your 5 month old did really well. He loves scrambled egg so couldn't see why you wouldn't love it too!

MooMooFarm · 03/04/2011 17:46

YANBU to think it's digusting - but you should be grateful for the effort anyway. Does your DH usually eat horrible food combinations or was he still half asleep? (I'm thinking maybe he mistook the buns for muffins or something Confused).

ENormaSnob · 03/04/2011 17:48

Hot cross buns are gross.

amberleaf · 03/04/2011 17:49

YABU and ungrateful

BinEnd · 03/04/2011 17:51

DH should have gone to Specsavers Grin

BlueAmy · 03/04/2011 17:51

Well it's a bit ungrateful, but it's such a bizarre combination, I don't think you can possibly be unreasonable!

BooyHoo · 03/04/2011 17:53

why doesn't your DH now that you dont like scrambled eggs?

BooyHoo · 03/04/2011 17:53

know Blush

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 03/04/2011 17:54

I always dry scrable eggs to avoid the icky juice. YAMDNBU !!

kaid100 · 03/04/2011 17:57

I don't think that hot-cross buns with scrambled egg is an appetising combination, but given all the other stuff he arranged your DC to get you I think the fairest thing would be to say "It's the thought that counts".

bettydraperswardrobeelf · 03/04/2011 17:59

It's not that I don't like scrambled eggs (sorry, I realise that is how it came across). I just feel that the combination of scrambled eggs with a hot cross bun is odd. As I said, I did just smile and eat it but it was revolting! DH does eat strange combinations sometimes though. I've always felt his favourite sandwich - egg mayonnaise with grated cheese and cucumber is a bit off the wall? Or is that normal?

LOL. I've friend who was woken one mother's day (v. early) by her children who had got out of bed and on their own made her a cheese string sandwich. She said luckily they were so charmed with themselves she didn't have to eat much of it...
Really sweet of her children to think of it though.

Panzee · 03/04/2011 19:23

That reminds me of the jam roll and beans breakfast that the little girl did on the A La Carte Kitchen ad. :o

FlaminGreatGallah · 03/04/2011 19:26

It is a bit odd.

Grin at cheese string sandwich. DD once made me breakfast in bed with whatever she could find in the fridge. Wilted lettuce and olives featured...

Fontsnob · 03/04/2011 19:41

Dh and I were presented with cold coffee (with about 5 sugars in) and marmite on toast one holiday from the dsd's? was lovely except the toast went toast, marmite (as thick as the bread itself) then butter. It was gross, but the thought was there! The coffee got tipped into an empty coke bottle and hidden under the bed an dh bless him did try and eat the toast.

Anyway, yanbu, an icky combo!

Bogeyface · 03/04/2011 19:52

It is fairly revolting but as he has weird tastes, he probably thought it was fine. I would say that holding a grudge about it is a bit U though!

I had brekkie in bed and had to flush away the fried eggs (there is a post on chat about that!) and eat smoked bacon which I loathe because DH didnt remember that I cant stand it!

But it was lovely, and I really enjoyed it if only for the love that was behind it :)

ratspeaker · 03/04/2011 20:00

Maybe you DH tought it would be like a toasted bagel?

Many years ago I got given a cup of tea with milk and sugar (dont take either ) and the tea was made with cold water as they weren't allowed to touch the kettle
They also looked in the fridge to see what daddy would like and brought him a tin of beer

llareggub · 03/04/2011 20:02

Well, you must return the sentiment on fathers' day.

bonkers20 · 03/04/2011 20:10

You should only eat hot cross buns on Good Friday! Shame on your DH ;-)

Yeah, scrammbled egg juice isn't too appetising and YANBU to think it an odd combination.

EricNorthmansMistress · 03/04/2011 20:44

YANBU, scrambled eggs on hot cross buns is absurd. But I'm very Envy of it anyway.

marmaladetwatkins · 03/04/2011 20:49

I am crying with laughter Grin

DH was planning on making me brioches filled with salmon. Not smoked salmon, but actual salmon fillet like what you have with spuds and veg! I would have smiled and eaten it but as it was, he forgot to take it out of the freezer so I escaped! I am having the salmon fillet with mash and peas tomorrow!

marmaladetwatkins · 03/04/2011 20:51

ratspeaker, that is adorable. I asked DS what he thought my uber-glam stepmum would like for her birthday next week and ge said some e45 and some cans of beer for grandad Grin

Jude89 · 03/04/2011 21:04

was given almost the same on Valentines' Day, Raisin and Cinnamon bagels with scrambled eggs, I was nearly sick! (both are great, just not together!)

bochead · 03/04/2011 22:23

Hah hah! This reminds me of the time when I was a kid and my Mum was on the maternity ward that my late Dad, deepfried a tin of baked beans & then got offended cos I refused to eat it. He was the most wonderful Dad a girl could wish for but it's no wonder I grew up to be a damn good cook!

You do know the intention was that you'll never expect the "rolls royce" treatment again : ) Men can be sneaky like this lol! Many men also lose their cognitive abilities when asked to operate a washing machine.

JaneS · 03/04/2011 23:29

Well, now you know what to make him for father's day.
