to be utterly gobsmacked (build a bear party)

Best friends DD has gone to a (9th) birthday party today at build a bear.
She had to drop her into the middle of town - so pay for parking. They will be getting the train home.
But gobsmackingly, they were told (at school via the birthday girl, no communication from the mum), that they had to bring £20 with!
When best friend queried this with the mum on arrival, was told yes they needed £20, as that was what was agreed with the birthday girl, for extra's
So we assume, the mum is paying for the basic bear and party, but is expecting the parents to pay for the extras.
This was not discussed or mentioned by the mum in the run up to the party. And would you want your child to be the only one not having the extra's.
It was only 5/6 girls invited, so surely they should have stuck to an amount they could afford. You don't ask people to contribute to a party surely?? So parking, present and card, and fecking £20! AIBU?

I run Be My Bear Parties - yes the bears / animals are nicer than BAB animals, and much much cheaper. And you can have the party at home and do your own food. And teh clothes and accessories are cheaper. You can buy plain white T-shirts for either £1.00 or £1.50. I put a white T-shirt into each layer of the pass-the-parcel and tehn the children decorate them with fabric pens. The children are much more involved in teh actual stuffing of the bear, writing their own birth certificates etc. Much, much better IMO

Blimey what a cheeky mare. If you can't afford to have an expensive themed party and pay for it yourself, you don't bloody well have it.

That is why DD will have her 4th birthday party at the lovely local park - sports day theme with picnic - and very excited she is too thank goodness!

OMG you don't even get party food included?!
