To ask what is so wrong with 'lol'??

I've been reading a few threads tonight and so many of them go off the point to complain about someone saying 'lol'

Doesn't it sometimes help with the tone of what someone is trying to say in what can often be quite heated threads?

And the whole 'it's so netmums' thing... Really? You're not rival high schools!! LOL (see?)

What's the big deal??

Although saying that, I really hate it when a poster makes a typo and then feels the urgent need to repost underneath incase people judge them. LOL Wink

Sleep tight Smile
Am never going to get up tomorrow...........

mylovelymonster · 03/04/2011 01:18

I mean, in about 5/6 hours...ooh eck

MotherMucca · 03/04/2011 01:24

I know what you mean. I have other things to worry about, too.

I really should stop getting annoyed with Internet strangers who post about things that don't really bother me, too.

mlm stick is away now :)

MotherMucca · 03/04/2011 01:27

mlm, I feel your pain.

I do not understand how I used to be capable of 30 minutes' sleep before a challenging early shift.

Sleep well and dream lovely things.

I just find the fact it's used excessively by the majority of people who know the words existence irritating beyond belief. They'll use it at the end of every sentence, when they don't have something to say, when they can't be bothered to have something to say, etc.
It's especially annoying when you are genuinely making an effort or holding a conversation, and your reply is 'lol'.

I don't know, maybe I'm odd, but it annoys me!

Have only read the first page, but agree 100% with Gloria.

onagar · 03/04/2011 09:25

lol

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/04/2011 09:32

Sadly I need to stop lol and use [tena lady] instead.

Can we have a [tena lady] emoticon please?

I find it useful, given you can not, sometimes, convey by the written word that you are joking . I have a dry sense of humour and sometimes have to spell it out.

OliPolly · 03/04/2011 09:50

I am with you OP. I use LOL all the time - rarely on MN though becuase I know its not like here.

I just don't see how it's different from iyswim which took me days to work out!

The netmums bashing is also a bit high school

MardyBra · 03/04/2011 09:51

I find the excessive use of lol annoying but it is surpassed by the excessive use of exclamation marks in a attempt to proclaim one's wackiness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mylovelymonster · 03/04/2011 21:08

ROFLAO, saggarmakersbottomknocker!!! Very, very funny. Bless you.
