Got cross - kicked the neighbour's cat

Have to qualify this really - it wasn't exactly a send-the-cat-flying-kick but was a little more than a gentle-nudge-with-foot.

This cat is a nasty little bugger, has bitten or scratched both mine and my neighbour's children, plus myself. She comes up to you as if she wants a stroke and then goes for you. She bit my daughter this afternoon totally unprovoked - drew blood - and I got cross. Gave her a bit of a 'shove' with my foot to get her to go away. Now I feel guilty...BUT if she comes near my house she'll probably get the same again. AIBU?

Have a horrible feeling I'm going to get crucifed now. Is it worth mentioning that I have a cat of my own and don't make a habit of this?

very difficult not to be cross and protective if a cat walks up and attacks your child. Waters a good one - and olbas oil too, just dilute in water and sprinkle round your garden.
Nijinsky, very brave to admit you have a horse. I got shot down in flames when i mentioned horses, and my reference to our inglenook fireplace (which the feral cat pooed in) sent them into orbit...
How do you get your horse to move if it doesn't want to go??

TheEffinOasis · 01/04/2011 18:42

countrymummy why on earth did you get shot down in flames for mentioning you own a horse??? I'm a relative newcomer here and am starting to wonder about the 'community'...

Olbas oil a good tip, and one I've not heard of before. Don't think our own cat would appreciate it much though! Last year when our recently cleared borders became the local cat toilet (I have no idea which cats, could have been our own joining in the fun too) I used any citrus juice plus layered a bit of orange peel just underneath the surface of the soil - seemed to do the trick too.

Reminds me of this

Frigging cracks me up

I have a psyco cat. I love him dearly but he's a right nasty bugger sometimes. If someone threw water at him for biting their child or constantly crapping in their garden I'd not be particularly bothered as it'd probably serve him right.

On a different point I agree with Spidermama about housecats, seems very unfair to me to keep a cat locked up and I don't want my house to smell of catshit anyway.

nzshar · 01/04/2011 19:01

I have a psyco cat like Megatron, she loves me but no one else. I have to warn people that she will go for them if they try to pat her etc If they then do it I laugh and say I did warn you :)

DO NOT think that all cats are lovely its just not true. Cats should be given as much caution as dogs eg if you do not know their temperament then do not pat/stroke is my advice.

The main arguments in this house are about the cat we have had her almost 11 years and yet she only respects me in the household but I just can not part with her. I love her to bits.

They have access to grass which I grow indoors for them, have plenty of climbing and scratching posts, and due to a new kitchen I now have a room which I am slowly adapting for the sole use of my cats, with shelves high up, play tunnels etc. They have the run of the house, and this will be like an extra playroom for them.

could you not just ....I dunno.....open the back door?

Maybe?

nzshar · 01/04/2011 19:14

mine isn't zukiecat, well only to me and as I said I love her :)

cheekyprincess · 01/04/2011 19:24

On the off chance this is not an April fools, there is a handy little canister you can buy called a pet corrector spray. A nasty noise and citronella smell. Keeps cats and dogs at bay.

But, I would have done the same. Especially if not the first time and/or unprovoked. Dogs get put down for that behaviour, why should cats get away with it.

asdx2 · 01/04/2011 19:25

Our neighbours cat is evil (although incredibly beautiful) and mithers for a fuss. then it drops on its back inviting you to rub its tummy and then it draws blood with two front paws and teeth. We all ignore it with the exception of dh who still thinks that one day the fuss won't end in bloodshed (10 years now and he's still hopeful).I'd spray it though if it attacked unprovoked.

Lovethelittlefishes · 01/04/2011 19:28

If your neighbour owns a cat that bites/scratches/attacks for no reason then they need to keep the cat indoors and away from the rest of you. The pet owner has a responsibility not to inflict the insane cat on the neighbourhood.

Where did I say you were in the wrong?!

I am just surprised that you would grow grass in the house rather than just let them out!

But why would anyone just take your cat?

And surely being a pet owner is about their happiness, not yours?

YABVFU

If you know the cat is grumpy - she may have arthritis or some other painful condition for all you know - keep the fuck away from her and teach your child to do the same.

Then think about better ways of setting an example to your child about how to treat animals. A water spray used approrpiately for example.

How would you feel if your kid hurt me accidentally in some way and I kicked/shoved with my foot?

[Zukie - I applaud your efforts to provide a good environment inside, though don't necesarily agree with the principle - but don't clean and disinfect out the tray everday - they like to be able to smell themselves. By all emans remove thw poo/wee clumps though.]

BellaMagnificat · 01/04/2011 20:13

Zukie - just read your other post and know exactly what you mean - I also resolved to keep her inside - but a friend persuaded me otherwise and to be honest at heart I know i'm happier. She usually goes out sits under a bush in the garden or under a car at the front ( though I DO live in a very quiet road). Apparently someone once put cameras on cats and saw ehere they went. All the footage was of the underside of cards Grin

BellaMagnificat · 01/04/2011 20:14

cars - sorry
