To think the mother's day service at big school today was out of order being soooooo sexist?

The children did a kind of poem thing that was all about mum being great at:
making beds
ironing
cooking
cleaning up after us
hugs and kisses (don't mind this bit but the rest has me going grrrrrrrrr)

was surprised that the female teachers hadn't tried a bit harder to get the children to appreciate their mums for stuff that was a little less Stepford Wife

A special person day would be much nicer - espically for children who don't have one or both parents with them but do have a speical person in their lives that they can apprecitate in a way that they choose

HA HA my DD would have had trouble relating to that poem..! Her mother desnt even know where the iron is. I refuse to clean. I'm a damn good cook but besides that she would have been very Hmm

valiumredhead · 01/04/2011 16:24

Even my 9 year old ds talked about how 'wrong' that song was!! Out of the mouths of babes............

Drizzela · 01/04/2011 16:25

zukiecat your post made me laugh - you don't get why a woman would choose to work?!!! WTF? Errrrm, pride, a high level of energy, wanting financial security, a passion for something other than children, a pension, a routine, to make use of years of study or training, for a challenge... do you realise that people are different? Why would being a woman mean you would choose to stay at home? Weird.

manicinsomniac · 01/04/2011 16:25

Drizella, so you have a partner? And if s des s/he do ALL the cleaning.
Not meaning to be provokative, just curious as to how you can refuse to clean at all.

manicinsomniac · 01/04/2011 16:26

do not so sorry

Drizzela · 01/04/2011 16:29

I have a cleaner Blush and my partner does all the ironing because it's only his clothes that need ironing, he hangs mine and the girls clothes up so they dont need to be ironed. (He works from home1 day a week so this falls on him on that day)
DD (4) does her and her big sister's washing (she enjoys it apparently - weirdo)

I cook. And play with them all Smile

manicinsomniac · 01/04/2011 16:31

oh gosh sorry, don't be embarrassed. I totally didn't think of cleaners. Loads of people have them. Sorry if I made you feel awkward.

princessparty · 01/04/2011 16:32

but even if you have a cleaner you still have to clean. If you spill something do you wait a aweek til the cleaner comes round?

princessparty obviously I'd clear it up! I meant 'clean' as in, 'do the cleaning'

Drizzela · 01/04/2011 17:37

Fair enough zukiecat, that's you but to say you can't understand why any woman would want to work is a bit short sighted...

valiumredhead · 01/04/2011 17:40

No one has to understand other people's choices, they just have to respect them imo.
