To get irrationally wound up by some male friend's facebook 'harems'?

i did say it was irrational but it's got to the point where i don't post anymore on certain male friend's posts as then my inbox is flooded with 30 more posts, all from women saying things like 'LOL Hun' and 'oh, only you...' 'you're crazy' etc.

Seems to be a phenomenon known only to men and simpering women. The one i have posted on tend to be say, them talking about their kids or whatever but more and more you get

"Farted today"
Lol
You're mad you are
Oh Hun
Call me
When are you visiting round here
LOL Hun
Awww Hun

"Been bowling with Jack"
Lol
You're mad you are
LOL Hun
Awww Hun
Oh Hun
Call me
When are you visiting round here

Etc. Ad infinitum

Is it a male / female thing? Confused - or is it just my friends???

"I love my wonderful hubby. He is totally wonderful. Had a wonderful day and a wonderful ride on my wonderful horse"

I know you're miserable love, you can't pull the wool over my eyes.

"Wow I'm such a superfan of ABC"

They HATE you I know this because they told me.

Aaaaaah I feel better now.

I have fb, my teen DD is my friend as are some of her friends. It's great to find out what is happening with them all. Grin

I have had to block news feeds from a couple of her friends. One is a lad she went out with a couple of times now going out with one of her mates, been all of 3 weeks and they are telling the whole of fb how much they love each other in a daily basis. GRRRRR. Good job DD dumped him.

I do have plenty of friends my own age too.

I can't believe that some people don't think FB should be used by men. I am struggling to get my brain around that thinking.

My husband, father, brothers, various other relatives and male friends use it to keep in touch with each other, to share photos and anecdotes, to update people and be updated, to share links to news articles... exactly the same reason the women I know use it. Why wouldn't men want to do these things?

Genuine question: is this a common thing, that people think men using FB are weird?

A fb tip

only add people who you like

not 654 randoms

adamschic · 30/03/2011 16:42

Real men don't use facebook Grin. Many of my friends partners think it's bloody stupid and wouldn't be seen dead on it. I have no problem with men using it, have plently of males friends but they mostly tend to be young and or single or still looking, when I come to think about it.

Makingaminime · 30/03/2011 17:06

Last time I checked my husband was definitely a real man Wink

Maybe people use fb for different things, my family and friends use it in the ways described above, mostly for sharing pictures and keeping a large and spread-out family in touch. So not in the slightest bit odd to use it for that purpose.

JeremyVile · 30/03/2011 17:12

It's not that men shouldn't use FB...
Just as men dont have to be able to drive and are as entitled to eat quiche as anyone else.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 30/03/2011 17:19

I've just checked 51 out of 114 of my FB freinds are male. Of the people I talk to regularly about half are male.

People using electronic means of communication tend not to have the same filters they would have in RL. It's a fact. So 10 years ago when email first became mainstream, you had repeated stories of people saying inappropriate things via email at work etc because they just didn't think. Ditto, mobile phones in the beginning led to all kinds of silly and inappropriate texting and other behaviours.

Facebook is in that stage. What will happen is that the silly ones (and OP, your examples are definitely in the silly-and-should-grow-up-and-become-real-people category) will either learn they are being silly and/or the rest of us will shun that kind of behaviour until it goes away/ we can't see it anymore.

stubbornhubby · 30/03/2011 17:48

many - probably most - of my male friends are on facebook, as am I. It's like being in the phone book, it's a way that people can find you - but very few of them really use it.

amongst kids it seems to be both girls and boys, but I'd say, yeah, amongst adults my experience is that it's more a female thing.

stubbornhubby · 30/03/2011 17:51

mind you, I'd definitely use FB more if I had a harem

carminaburana · 30/03/2011 18:15

Makingaminime: Real men haven't got the time to share photos and anecdotes on F/B, they're too busy working/watching football/helping with the children etc...and even if they have the time, what man wants to bore his mates with holiday photos? Only Nerdy McNerd.
