To get irrationally wound up by some male friend's facebook 'harems'?

PortBlackSandwitch · 30/03/2011 08:47

i did say it was irrational but it's got to the point where i don't post anymore on certain male friend's posts as then my inbox is flooded with 30 more posts, all from women saying things like 'LOL Hun' and 'oh, only you...' 'you're crazy' etc.

Seems to be a phenomenon known only to men and simpering women. The one i have posted on tend to be say, them talking about their kids or whatever but more and more you get

"Farted today"
Lol
You're mad you are
Oh Hun
Call me
When are you visiting round here
LOL Hun
Awww Hun

"Been bowling with Jack"
Lol
You're mad you are
LOL Hun
Awww Hun
Oh Hun
Call me
When are you visiting round here

Etc. Ad infinitum

Is it a male / female thing? Confused - or is it just my friends???

so (casual talk, casual talk) how would a man go about getting one of these facebook harems, then?

Hullygully · 30/03/2011 10:32

oh hun!

you're crazy you are!

LOL

Spk soon!

PortBlackSandwitch · 30/03/2011 10:33

kerry - the blokes are old chums from school or uni or husbands of friends....i see the women's comments when they post but i'm not necessarily fb friends with them.

carminaburana · 30/03/2011 10:33

Agree about men on Facebook - it is sad.

I think the whole social networking thing has had it's day ( from talking to people I know anyway ) - twitter is yawntastic and Facebook is just for bores and show offs.

stubbornhubby · 30/03/2011 10:35

Grin an instant harem eh?

cool

Terraviva · 30/03/2011 10:37

kerry Do people actually, seriously, really delete friendships on the basis of spelling?! Don't get me wrong, I detest text speak with an absolute passion, but I'm proud of being friends with a wide range of people. Surely it's incredibly snobbish to only be friends with people who can spell and punctuate properly?

mayorquimby · 30/03/2011 10:54

I've blocked so many women from my facebook due to a constant repition of this conversation.
Woman one: ugh why is life so tough???!!!!!!111
a bazillion other morons: u ok hun x/wats up hun x/ don't let it get you down hun x
woman one: I don't want to talk about it

Then why the fuck are you posting it on fb?
also honourable mention to anyone posting about "their night out with the girlies lolxxxxxxxxtbxzomg!!!!!!!"
and of course anyone who posts that Marilyn monroe quote gets deleted as they are inevitably deluded gobshites.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/03/2011 10:58

Nope not just you OP, I have a particuarly gorgeous male friend on my fb and evertime he posts its followed by a million girls asking him out for drinks, lol-ing, pmsl-ing and other inane dribble, I would delete him but he is to damn good looking.

Themumsnot · 30/03/2011 10:58

What Marilyn Monroe quote?

Just the Harem stuff or should facebook be women only?

mayorquimby · 30/03/2011 11:02

the one people put in their statuses goes something like this:

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." ? Marilyn Monroe (then there's normally a post-script along the lines of) most women aren't brave enough to repost this, repost this if you're a strong woman who deserves x/y/z

Jeez - thank goodness I haven't got any of those friends. But then I only have 54 FB friends and they are all people I actually know and like.
A (male) friend posted this today which I rather like.

Please copy and paste this as your status if you know someone, or have heard of someone who knows someone. If you don't know anyone, or even if you've heard of anyone who doesn't know anyone, then do still copy this. It's important to spread the message even if no-one knows anything about anyone. Oh, and the hearts, ♥ ♥ ♥ ...For gods sake, don't forget the hearts. ♥ ♥ ♥

Baggypussy · 30/03/2011 11:59

Does this mean that FB has had it's day then?? I bloody well hope so. Hate the thing- never could see the point. Think I may be a social leper for not being on it though.

Much rather waste my time on MN instead...

carminaburana · 30/03/2011 11:59

ManfromCUK;

statistically, F/B has more female users than men, ( I think we have more time on our hands and like to chat more ) - Personally, I'd wonder why a man (who wasn't 19 or had family abroad) would want to waste time on a social networking site, What are you getting out of it?

Terraviva · 30/03/2011 11:59

Kerry - Ah, I get you now. Don't think I read your post properly Blush

Sorry!

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 30/03/2011 12:00

Get better friends.

AKissIsNotAContract · 30/03/2011 12:31

I had to hide status updates from a friend who started referring to herself as 'mummy' after her son was born. 'mummy and XXX have been to the park' 'mummy has changed XXX's pooey nappy'. She was normal before she gave birth!

Animation · 30/03/2011 12:39

AdamJSusan.

Yes -same here. I just use fb to stalk my teenage kids, and abide by their strict instructions not post comments.

BitOfFun · 30/03/2011 12:41

I don't think Twitter has had its day at all- it is the perfect way to find out news as it actually happens, and hear the real story about things like what happened after the cuts march etc etc.

I can imagine it would grate if you used it for tweeting your banal daily activities though.

sungirltan · 30/03/2011 12:45

akissisnotacontract - i think i know her too! 'xx and mummy have been to (out of town shopping centre)....love our trips out!'

MrsH75 · 30/03/2011 13:47

I don't mind the odd LOL, used sparingly. Ha ha ha ha ha ha takes more than twice as long to type.

IQuiteLikeVodka · 30/03/2011 15:01

aaarrrgggg yes the GIRLIES statuses (statae??) really really really bother me !
