to fill out the census against DH's will?

I sat down to do the census - filled out the family sections, then me, then I asked DH and he is refusing to answer the questions becasue he "doesn't see how what colour/job/nationality he is is relevant to any one"

Gah. He's been to the pub, so shall we just take it as read that he is being an arse and fill it out for him? Or should I just pretend he doesn't exist? (which seems a bit sad - we are busy fighting the cuts here, and he can't even be arsed to stand up and be counted)

Just leave him off. The rule is every household has to return one and no-one will know whether the details filled in are accurate or not - the tracking follows the forms and isn't cross-checked with anything else.

Then tell him he's making the cuts worse as local authorities get funding per head based on census head count.

Or just answer for him, I filled it in for DH and there was nothing I needed to ask him.

worraliberty · 29/03/2011 21:17

Just stick him down as another child living in your home Hmm

butterpieify · 29/03/2011 21:20

Apparently I can "do it anyway if you're going to be an arse about it - it's not like they read them anyway"

So I'm doing it.

I'm sick of this though. I very nearly hid that I was doing it from him, but thought I would give him the respect of being treated like an adult.

I suggest you fill it in for the rest of and ask for an individual questionaire for him

PeterAndreForPM · 29/03/2011 21:21

why treat him like an adult ?

he hasn't behaved like one

BerkshireMum · 29/03/2011 21:34

Tick the box saying he wants an individual form then leave it up to him. If he doesn't do it - it's his problem and fine. You've done your legal duty and respected his (odd) wishes

said · 29/03/2011 21:41

lol @ adding him as a child Grin

AuntiePickleBottom · 29/03/2011 21:43

op, why don't you want to respect his wishes regarding the census

PeterAndreForPM · 29/03/2011 21:45

well, auntie, if they have joint finances then maybe OP doesn't want to get a £1k fine ?

it would certainly piss me off if that amount of money was coming out of the family pot

thisisyesterday · 29/03/2011 21:46

and maybe she doesn't want to have to deal with census collectors coming round and him being in a pissy mood yet again.

kittybuttoon · 29/03/2011 21:51

I filled in ours. DH surprised me by declaring himself as a Scot. (News to me) I'm sure he was English in the 2001 census. I think he ate a bit of shortbread once, but that's the closest he's ever come to the banks and braes.

Or perhaps he is causing trouble because he secretly wanted to be 'Person One' himself?????

Georgimama · 29/03/2011 21:52

Does he have any good points? It doesn't sound much like it.

I have a question. I know you get a fine if you don't fill in the census, but do you get one if you lie and write silly answers? If not, I would let your DH's answers stand. It's his right to put whatever he wants, provided that it doesn't impact on you in any way (for example, a fine).

AllGoodNamesGone · 29/03/2011 22:09

I think you should leave the "Mongrel" answer in - made me Grin

ohboob · 29/03/2011 22:16

OP I had exactly the same with my childish housemate. Posted in chat about it. I eventually just ticked for him to be sent an individual form and I really hope that if he doesn't fill it in they fine him. That would be great. (bad housemate emoticon). I do sympathise.

Clytaemnestra · 29/03/2011 22:18

My DH wanted me to put "Jedi" in and a whole bunch of other stupid answers. I told him that I've used the census loads to research family tree, and did he want his great great grandchildren looking at his answers and thinking their great grandad was a bit of a twat who thought he was funny.

He didn't have a good answer for that, so I filled it in normally.

Desiderata · 29/03/2011 22:23

He sounds like a right-wing nut job, butter? Right-wingers actually love filling in census forms.

It's very socialist behaviour, so he's acting according to type, imo.

Any how, he's a knob-end. Why don't you just do it on-line?

plupedantic · 29/03/2011 22:27

DH asked me this evening whether "we" had filled in the census, but the only reason he wanted to know was because he wanted to be a "Jedi" again. Probably wanted to make poor DS a Jedi, too...

littleducks · 29/03/2011 22:29

I agree that you should fill in the rest sensibly and then request an individual questionaire for him, from then on its his problem

PatriciaHolm · 29/03/2011 22:32

Throw him out, then you can legitimately fill it in leaving him off as he doesn't live there. Simple, two birds with one stone.

backwardpossom · 29/03/2011 22:35

He sounds like a delight Hmm

olderandwider · 29/03/2011 22:46

What is it with men and the Census? Do they think sabotaging a Census form makes them Edgy and Rebellious?

cazty1 · 29/03/2011 22:53

Complete it online and include his details but tell him you didn't. He'll never know the difference

Casmama · 29/03/2011 23:09

I think your bigger problem is that he disappears off most nights claiming he is going to the shop and ends up in the pub before coming home drunk or have I misunderstood.
