He left the tap on in the bathroom flooded it totally, the water started leaking through to the kitchen soaking everything in the cupboards so we had to get rid of flour etc. BUT is wasn't on purpose it was careless.
I tried very hard to keep my temper under control as water flooded out of the food cupboards and onto my lovely new magazine but I ended up shouting at him to go to his room and stay there for the rest of the evening. He has had his dinner taken to him but he is still crying :( and shouting he loves me and Im starting to feel guilty - it's only been half an hour!
Am I being harsh or should I stand my ground?

Fabby - my DS1 is 4 and I don't supervise every time he needs the bathroom!

OP has given cuddles and appologised to her DS. Give her a break.

Hi - my DS1 pullled curtains down in our rented house -pulling out the curtain rail - he wasn't 3 - and it was an accident - but we were very cross - and did to send him to his room - but when we calmed down we chatted about it him/gave him a cuddle and it was ok - when I shout at him I do find an apology helped the situation - but of course do explain why it was wrong

YABU and very mean. I flooded the bathroom in my old house and I am a grown-up (well supposed to be)

Fabbychic I don't supervise bathroom trips for my 4 or 6 year olds, only the 2 year old. He has been toilet trained for a year and a half so I just didn't think he needed following any more - he is 5 in a couple of months and already in a school nursery where they don't supervise!.

TroubledPrincess - OP hugged and made up with her DS quite quickly, he was not left in his room all evening. Sometimes people overreact but the OP corrected things and everything is fine with her DS.

ds did this once, i caught it before the damage was more than a soggy floor, my solution remove the plug. i just ripped it right off the chain. done.

and yabu, but hes been cuddled now so end of.

I don't supervise my 3.5 year old using the bathroom although I might check if he is there a bit longer than expected (usually playing with water or squashing the soap down the plughole Confused)
