To want to shout from the rooftops about my neighbours?

DD has an ongoing health problem with her lungs which hinders her sleep and causes her discomfort so she is crying a lot more than usual. She is getting us up at 4am most days (although not all) and when in pain can scream bloody murder.

Our next door neighbour rang the bell today (after a hellish night) and said that they heard our daughter screaming. I was waiting for the inevitable complaints but do you know what I got instead?

A basket of home cooked meals with the promise of more as they know we are having a hard time so want to help. These are not neighbours we are particularly close to speak to either. I was gobsmacked and burst into tears at their kindness.

I bloody love where I live, there is such a community here and I want to shout it from the rooftops!

That's absolutely lovely!

When I gave birth at home our nextdoor neighbours came round with a boquet of flowers the next morning. I felt bad because I'd obviously woken them up the one time onl that I let out a loud yell Blush

I'm also really glad for your neighbour that you appreciated it and took it in the spirit it was intended...sadly I've seen too many MN threads that lead me to believe some people would have been all precious and insulted Confused

Sweetpea215 · 29/03/2011 13:20

That's amazing...and becoming more of a rarity these days!

Restores your faith in humankind...and I bet it was a real pleasure for them to have a chance to do something for you and for you to appreciate it in the way that you did.

All the best with your situation...which does sound really difficult.

colditz · 29/03/2011 13:22

How incredibly thoughtful...I wasn't surprised to see that they are from Bangalore though, as EVERYONE seems to be more tolerant of babies crying than the Brits.

I hope your dd gets well soon.

ChairOfTheBored · 29/03/2011 13:22

That is fantastic. I must be hormonal though, as it made me cry. Am such a dafty trousers when hormonal (and only then, honest!)

NorfolkNChance · 29/03/2011 13:31

Well I am going to have to get her recipes! DD has wolfed down a chickpea and lentil dish with a massive smile on her face and is now playing nicely giving me time for MN a rest!

How lovely! I have goosebumps. So much better than my neighbours who banged on their ceiling / our floor when our DS was crying. Yes i do live in London

wahwahwah · 29/03/2011 13:39

It isn't suprising to a) see that you arent' living in London and b) your neighbours are originally from abroad!

Maybe we should start a MN movement - be-nice-and-thoughtful-to-people-and-support-other-mums. A bit like that random acts of kindness thing that was going around a few years back. Try to do one nice thing a day.

Of course, living in London, if I trollied up to a neighbours with a stack of food they'd probably think I was completely mad and eithe call the police or shove it all in the bin!

MissJanuary · 29/03/2011 13:41

How utterly lovely.

Note to self - try and be more kind and giving like NorfolkNChance neighbours.

wahwahwah · 29/03/2011 13:44

www.randomactsofkindness.org/

Must try to be NICE to people. Even fat people on buses (another thread before anyone gets angry)

Kleftico · 29/03/2011 13:47

That's lovely to hear! I experienced a random act of kindness today. Walking back from school after dropping DS this morning. DD didn't want to ride her bike home and wanted to be carried! An older lady carried her bike for me so I could carry her all the way home! I was overcome by it! Got to love village life! Hope you have a better night tonight.

purplebrickroad · 29/03/2011 13:50

Random acts of kindness are the Big Society. I think DC nicked the idea.

wahwahwah · 29/03/2011 13:51

That has put me right off it then! What he hell is big Society anyway?
The site has a section on Japan that is quite moving.

SherlockMoans · 29/03/2011 13:52

Lovely!

Mumofaflump · 29/03/2011 13:53

Oh that's lovely! My neighbour is a sweetie as well (and gloriously eccentric). The day before we moved in I had a car accident and when she found out she offered to give me (a complete stranger) a lift to the station each morning. I assumed she was going that way anyway so accepted only to find out she works from home so she was getting up early and making a special trip just for me!!

Just last week her chimney caught fire and we had firefighters all over the place, she told me the next day she had offered them all malteasers and maramalade as a snack!

wahwahwah · 29/03/2011 13:54

Hey Sherlock - spoken to MIL yet? Be kind (!!)

MoChan · 29/03/2011 13:55

weeps

NorfolkNChance · 29/03/2011 20:25

Driftwood999 · 29/03/2011 20:31

I guessed your neighbours were immigrants from your OP, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. I have had a similar experience and it is beautiful. Lovely way to meet new people.

madhairday · 29/03/2011 20:34

That is just lovely. :) Hope your dd is feeling better soon.

Lizzylou · 29/03/2011 20:38

That is so heartwarming, how lovely of them to be so thoughtful and now you and your DD have new mates.
Hope your DD is OK.

I am beyond jealous of your meals, bet they are fab, I had a workmate from Bangalore and she cooked us dinner one night. OMG, I nearly moved in Smile

Driftwood999 · 29/03/2011 20:40

Colditz Where from the OP onwards, did you see/read they were from Bangalore? I may have missed that.

shakey1500 · 29/03/2011 20:42

That is just so lovely and refreshing to hear. Has warmed me cockles and made me feel all squishy. Hope she feels better very soon.

boobellina · 29/03/2011 20:47

Fab story, have promised myself to do the same if I ever think my neighbours need it.

Hope your dd gets on alright at docs and feels better soon x

Driftwood999 · 29/03/2011 20:47

Colditz Found it now, my fault, sorry!
