I mean ffs.

Yes it is very cute that they called their dd "Bean" during pregnancy but to actually register it as a middle name on her birth certificate is just cruel!

I wouldn't be keen on Bean, but it's not the end of the world. I used to know a guy called Storm and thought it was a very cool name. He was South African though, think it is more normal there. For a woman, it is normally spelled Storme, and is not unusual.

RevoltingPeasant · 28/03/2011 16:48

Nappy, actually Bean is a name - it's a surname.

Lots and lots of people have surnames as middle names, for example their mother's maiden name.

Like, Frances Hodgson Burnett. 'Hodgson' is a not a girl's name. Would you think it was cruel to give this name to a girl for her middle name? Confused

So even if it was for 'silly' reasons, no one need ever know that.

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 28/03/2011 16:48

My dad once told me he went to school with a Donald Duck. I used to believe him but I really must question him again, I fear he may have been tricking me Hmm

BackToBasics · 28/03/2011 16:49

Yes it is all very "cute" and "fun" for the parents at the time of birth. It isn't so "fun" though when someone at school gets hold of it (and someone usually does) and said child gets teased or even bullied for it.

I have known kids to be called their stupid middle names throughout their school life as a way of taking the piss out of them. It can be really cruel yes.

twilight3 · 28/03/2011 16:50

DH says "unless her first name is Flickmy not an issue"

StillSquiffy · 28/03/2011 16:51

My DS's initials are FK, and we were sooooooooo tempted to give him the middle names Urquhart Charles. We were still debating on the steps of the Registrar's office before finally bottling it.

Taping in those name stickers at school would have been far more entertaining had we had enough guts to follow through...

twilight3 · 28/03/2011 16:52

I named my son after a comedian because hiw shows got me through my very difficult pregnancy, the name is not unusual, the contrary, but the reason miht be "silly"... and what?

twilight3 · 28/03/2011 16:54

shame StillSquiffy... too little too late for regrets... shoudl have gone through with it Grin

DontGoCurly · 28/03/2011 16:54

lol @ twilight!

You beat me to it!

That's the first thing I thought of too, flickin' the bean, and she's a girl too. She is going to get an almighty slagging in school.

If they have a boy next they can call him Helmet Grin

Stupid parents ! Morto for the poor kid.

noddyholder · 28/03/2011 16:54

Why? MN is obsessed with the whys and wherefores of naming children. Its a personal thing and different people having different tastes keeps life varied. Its a sweet thing to do

Blatherskite · 28/03/2011 16:54

Actually BackToBasics has reminded me of a time at work when I had to remove the middle name of a lady from the system as her collegues were giving her some stick!

Poor lady - the name was "Moron"!!

NappyGallor · 28/03/2011 17:00

I agree BtoB, that is why i think it is cruel. Some parents cannot see past their own sense of "fun."

She has a really unusual first name as well. Not unusual like nice unusual, more like Hmm unusual.

greentig3r · 28/03/2011 17:02

Yabvvvvvu...

It is a real surname.

It's my DD's middle name.

We didn't do it to be cruel but because the name is special.

So there. :o

SoupDragon · 28/03/2011 17:03

Those who don't think it is cruel probably weren't teased mercilessly because of a daft name.

NappyGallor · 28/03/2011 17:03

Yes we all know it's a surname. Mr Bean springs to mind...

OP posts:
greentig3r · 28/03/2011 17:04

Cross post. That could be DD actually. Blush

Playdoughmustdie · 28/03/2011 17:07

Mr Sean Bean? Wink

FollowMe · 28/03/2011 17:08

I know someone (one of DH's colleagues) that actually did give their DS 'danger' as a middle name

5inthebed · 28/03/2011 17:11

I so wanted to give DS1 the middle name Bean. If I had ben able to register him, he would have had it as well.

My friend's little boy has the middle name Bear, and it really does suit him.

NappyGallor · 28/03/2011 17:11

Come on then, own up - who has a silly middle name then? Smile

twilight3 · 28/03/2011 17:12

oooh, greentig3r, the plot thickens...

MrsTumbles · 28/03/2011 17:13

Ooh, this has reminded me of when I was pregnant with DD and she was known as 'Peanut'. About a month before she was born some z-list American 'celebrity' (I think he was a soap star) named his child Peanut because that was their name for the unborn child too. I felt so sorry for the little one having to spend the rest of their lives with that name!

twilight3 · 28/03/2011 17:14

someone told me once about twin boys who were named Peace and Love. First names. Now, they're in for a rough ride

MrsTumbles · 28/03/2011 17:16

Hormones its been a long day!
