To be wary, on behalf of other mums, of DH taking DD & her friends swimming.

DD wants to go to a swimming flume type place for her bday. (Not sure of the correct name for them. Flume park?)

Anyhoo, it would be easier if DH took them for a number of reasons.

He says the other mums might be funny with him taking 4 girls swimming.

I say not.

MN jury, what say you?

Oh no. What's the world coming to?

FabbyChic · 24/03/2011 22:02

Some mums might, why not ask them.

scurryfunge · 24/03/2011 22:03

Shouldn't be a problem.....presumably they can change on their own and there isn't a safety limit imposed by the swimming pool on number of children with one adult.

NimpyWindowmash · 24/03/2011 22:04

If the mums know your DH a bit, then no problem.

Tidey · 24/03/2011 22:04

Sadly, some of them might be. They would most likely have absolutely no reason to feel, but feel a bit off about it anyway. Ask them first - explain that you might not be going, and ask how they'd feel if it was just your DH chaperoning.

CravingExcitement · 24/03/2011 22:06

Depending on how old they are, I might be worried that there would only be one adult supervising them, but don't care about the gender of that adult.

squeakytoy · 24/03/2011 22:06

If they have a problem with it, then they are the ones who need to sort themselves out a bit.

I went swimming with my friends 3 or 4 nights a week as a kid, and our dads used to take it in turns to ferry us all there.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 24/03/2011 22:06

Some might be, and if they are then they can get to fuckio.

DancingThroughLife · 24/03/2011 22:08

This wouldn't bother me. I think DH would be offended if any of our friends (or parents of DD's future friends) were to think this. Come to think of it, I'd be a little offended too.

QueeferSutherland · 24/03/2011 22:09

Thanks for the replies.

Craving, I was a bit worried about that too. Will check water-slide-venue's website.

Depends how old they are.

abbierhodes · 24/03/2011 22:14

Would anyone blink if a mum took 4 lads swimming?

ivykaty44 · 24/03/2011 22:14

www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/news/Just-look-eye-husband-tells-paedophile/article-1602014-detail/article.html

they come in all shapes and sizes and different genders - they do not have anything written or tattoed across there forheads.

If any of the mates parents have a problem - it is their own problem and not yours or anyone elses

BooyHoo · 24/03/2011 22:15

if the mums have a problem then they dont have to let their DD go. or they can accompany her to the pool.

LoveMyGirls · 24/03/2011 22:16

I wouldn't want my DH to put himself in the situation where he could be offended by the mums having a problem with it, I think I would just chose to to together or choose another activity for him to take them to.

QueeferSutherland · 24/03/2011 22:22

Vair good point abbier.

The girls are all 9/nearly 9.

We only have room int hte car for 4 gals + driver.

I would go, but;

  1. I hate getting into a cozzie.
  2. DS is still BFing.
  3. DH knows the way to said splashy-fun emporium.
  4. DH is more "fun".Hmm DD has told me as much. She says I will embarrass her. She says she cannot pinpoint how or when, but I almost certainly will. She may have a point.

Wouldn't bother me as long as they are all fairly good swimmers/old enough to touch the bottom. Otherwise I may be worried about the 1 adult to 4 kids ratio.

wellwisher · 24/03/2011 23:16

What is the changing room set-up at the pool they'd be going to? At 9, the girls are too big to go in the men's changing room, but also quite young to change unsupervised in the ladies (excited group of girls = potential for silliness)... have you got a plan for this?

foreverondiet · 24/03/2011 23:22

I think it depends on the changing room set up really. As wellwisher says they might be a bit silly if not accompanied in womans changing room and I wouldn't want my DD at that age to go into the mens. If its a mixed sex changing area all with cubicles then I don't think the gender of the adult matters as they will each have their own cubicle.

The 1:4 ratio wouldn't bother me if it was my DD as she is a good swimmer - generally ratios apply for children under 7/8.

seeker · 24/03/2011 23:30

At 9, they can go swimming on theri own. So the changing room is not an issue.

Don't "have an word" with the other mothers. If they are insane enough to have concerns, its up to them to raise them with you, rather than the other way round. You are doing teh sensible, rational normal thing. Anyone objecting would be the stupid, irrational, abnormal ones, so let them raise it. If they are insane enough.

alphamummy · 24/03/2011 23:38

At my local pool children can go swimming with no adult present at 8yrs.

So no i wouldnt have a problem with my dd going with a friends dad swimming at 9.

yes girls may be a little silly getting changed but with clear instruction and set time limit should be fine. Worst situation is that he has to enlist a member of staff/ woman to go in and check everything ok.
Is your dd sensible?

If i was to take 4 boys swimming at that age i would do as above.

Is DH confident in taking them? TBH that would be half my battle!

How is is discourteous not to say in effect "Are you the sort of idiot that thinks any man is a potential paedophile? Because if you are, you may want to know that it's my dh who's is taking the girls swimming on Saturday - is that OK?"
