I watched the film Solomon Kane a bit ago and was very impressed with the <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.comingsoon.net/gallery/37883/Solomon_Kane_1.jpg&imgrefurl=www.comingsoon.net/films.php%3Fid%3D37883&usg=__1-0xjyAmjBDwQWBX2Hwge-ooa-U=&h=605&w=453&sz=45&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=RnIBzZC3EYTHjM:&tbnh=140&tbnw=105&ei=Qn2LTcu5HpCJ4QaF9eX6DQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsolomon%2Bkane%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1146%26bih%3D696%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=345&vpy=83&dur=83&hovh=260&hovw=194&tx=115&ty=138&oei=NXqLTfXFDoO1hAf52fHJDQ&page=1&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">swirly cape/wide brimmed hat look.

Dramatic entrances/exits, functional (keeping you warm and dry) yet stylish, it cuts a mean silhouette.

I like the thought of David Cameron swirling into a press conference accompanied perhaps with a few boos/hisses?

Not quite the same, but I was a youngster in the 70's and can remember my mum having a long purple cape trimmed with fake fur, it was really great for getting into at the bus stop if it was cold Grin

If you're not keen on the 1600's look, what would you like to see return?

I think I must be just an old romantic at heart because I've always had a thing for tricorn hats as well Blush Grin

What about for women?

Worried your arse looks bigger than you'd like in that new skirt? Care not a jot and just accentuate it with <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=hijabtrendz.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/trench2.jpg&imgrefurl=www.hijabtrendz.com/2009/01/25/colorful-trench-coats-usher-in-spring/&usg=__zDwEwKtLU4mYMOFquyf4SHNOTEk=&h=370&w=290&sz=42&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=C2akweynW80ZzM:&tbnh=123&tbnw=96&ei=IH6LTYi7PMrz4QbT8OirDg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbustle%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1146%26bih%3D696%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=441&oei=AH6LTZfxOtGHhQe3goDFDQ&page=1&ndsp=34&ved=1t:429,r:29,s:0&tx=20&ty=65" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">a bustle Grin

I used to have it on VHS but have had to order the DVD. For the sole purpose of DD's cultural enrichment you understand. £3.49 - not bad, thanks!

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 24/03/2011 23:06

I want this dress but I think it may be too much to go to the shops in?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 24/03/2011 23:09

depends, do you have to get on a bus?
if you live somewhere like Bath or Middlemarch you might get away with it.

AgentZigzag · 24/03/2011 23:12

If those slatterns go down t'Spar in slippers and PJs shiny, you've got every right to twirl in to buy your voddy in that Grin

I'm with Salmotrutta and partial to the <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.roxx-online.com/roxxOnline/images/productPhotos/Deep%2520purple%2520taffeta%2520%26%2520velvet%2520medieval%2520dress%25202588.JPG&imgrefurl=www.roxx-online.com/roxxonline/viewproducts.cfm%3Fmode%3Dselect%26newSelection%3Dy%26proId%3D43%26cat_id%3D1%26dep_id%3D19&usg=__V6XoDHhcTw-wEwWi5S-uw5HHCF4=&h=400&w=300&sz=22&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=XdR26wHa6lbBsM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=93&ei=Q8-LTbe_BcXl4Aa8z5zcCw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmedieval%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1146%26bih%3D696%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=329&oei=Ds-LTcrAHM6xhQfR04CwCw&page=1&ndsp=27&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0&tx=47&ty=51" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">medieval togs, they're a bit tiresome for everyday wear though, the sleeves are a bugger when you're washing up.

Bollocks, dh is not going to be happy when I tell him that we need to move house so I can wear a nice dress out and about. Or when I tell him he can't come out with me because leather jackets and biker boots won't match it at all.

AgentZigzag · 24/03/2011 23:14

(bit late, but night Beers)

Not read whole thread, but DH won my heart by tipping his well-worn tricorn to me on our firs date. He also has lovely long hair and does Renaissance fencing when he can.

Agree that men should dress in capes though my preferred dress is 18th century with breeches.

As for myself, I own a well-fitting corset (or it did before DD came along) but I'd love a pair of stays.

LLKH · 25/03/2011 11:56

*first, I meant.
