My SIL likes to post on FB at least 4 times a day with various comments on how she is feeling...oh so tired today not much sleep last night..feeling poorly today just been sick again....had a bad day at work today lots of traffic on the way home....just baked a cake and here is a picture..Just went to tesco and oh the queues blah blah blah. Perhaps I am just getting old and but I just don't udnerstand this?

Dont get me wrong I thing FB is great and a wonderful way to keep in touch with family and friends but why would you feel the need to share every detail and every thought that runs through your head?

malachysmum why thank you!

when i challenged said friend about it she said that it is fine to post all kinds of graphic birth type detail on FB if you are already a mother as you have gone through childbirth and are now part of an elusive club so it is ok.......

madhairday · 24/03/2011 22:43

Makes it worth it when you read something like this though just posted by a friend

"Copy this and put it in your status if you know someone or have heard of someone who knows someone or have heard of someone who may know someone; or if you don't know anyone or even if you've just heard of someone who doesn't know anyone then do still copy this. It's important to spread the message. Oh and the hearts... ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ don't forget the hearts! ♥ ♥"

madhairday · 24/03/2011 22:44

random numbers being hearts that is.

manticlimactic · 24/03/2011 23:03

I fell out with a friend over her statuses.

They were the attention ones and one was ' Oh so sad right now, really pissed off' ad nauseum. So me thinking, well I won't ask what's up on FB text her. She text back ' Don't want to talk about it, wish people would stop asking me' Shock. Told her to stop platering it all over facebook time and tiome again if she didn't want to be asked.

Now everyone has wised up to her and doesn't bother commenting so she moans about no one caring. Couldn't fucking win. Defriended.

YANBU, some people make you long for the days when 'stream of consciousness' publishing was mercifully curtailed by the fact that most people couldn't afford the printing costs.

sims2fan · 25/03/2011 01:21

Somebody I know on Facebook has linked this thread, and I am now trying to work out which of you it is, as I didn't think I knew anyone in real life who used MN, so will have to be more careful about what I write in future! Lol, though actually don't think I've ever mentioned this person on here, so all should be well!

aurynne · 25/03/2011 01:47

Threads like this make me so happy I am neither in FB, nor tempted to be...

sterrryerryoh · 25/03/2011 07:04

I have someone on fb who runs dance and zumba classes at a local community centre. It's her only form of income, so she frequently advertises to drum up business, and has many clients/customers as fb friends.
recent status updates, in order, are:

That's that, then. Life continues to fuck me over

This is bullshit. Fuck off and grow up

the haters can all die. You know you are

Yey. New zumba class at xxxxx school, sunday at 4pm. Hope to see lots of you there - tone up, get fit and have fun. Inbox me for details

Woke up in so much pain. I want him back..

Inspires you with confidence in her professionalism, really.

oh - just noticed they're back together. She's "snuggling tonite wit my man"

Sweetpea215 · 25/03/2011 09:29

Oh dear (LOL) re the above!

FrizzyFrazzled · 25/03/2011 10:17

I love this thread!

I too have just culled my friends list by half as I just couldn't bear it any more. There are some, though, who I can't defriend because they are relatives and I don't want to offend them.. an even though I have hidden them, occasionally I look them up to see what the latest inane ramblings are! WHY??

I also love the sites Lamebook, STFU Parents and STFU Couples - compilations of some of the most fabulously annoying people on FB. I wish I could kick the addiction but it's so bad it's good.

Bucharest · 25/03/2011 10:17

The woop woop person on mine has just friended the father of her child again as well. Woop woop.

MadreInglese · 25/03/2011 11:53

ROFL @ unstable zumba woman Grin

Threaders · 25/03/2011 14:02

I hate it when the status just says:

Booooooom

It means fuck all, so don't fucking say it.

fastedwina · 25/03/2011 14:07

I feel as though I'm missing out here. Have 60 friends on FB and never see this kind of shit really - one or 2 slightly borderline but nothing really bad or puke inducing.

CheekyLittleSox · 25/03/2011 14:12

i hate the 'ohh why do i do it, my life is fucked over and i cant fix blah blah blha'

Then you post

You ok???

And the reply is

'I dont want to talk about it, its private!

Hmm private eh? dont post on fucking facebook then

weeper · 25/03/2011 14:16

I know one girl who is CONSTANTLY posting about snuggles with her handsome man (boak), although it was quite gratifying when someone recently commented, 'Do you two no speak to each other in the house?'

Another good moment was when she wrote she was 'So proud of her man - well done baby! xxxxxxxxxxxx' and someone replied 'did he finally get taken off the register then?'

lolity lol

sims2fan · 25/03/2011 18:59

One of my FB friends keeps putting statuses that her boyfriend comments on, then she replies, then he does, etc. The 'conversations' are usually about their sex life and this morning's was about the great blowjob she gave him last night. There are certain things that should be kept between a couple in my opinion!

sloggies · 25/03/2011 19:02

Have felt compelled to copy and paste this from a friend of friend's status today

"Why are we guilty of ignoring those that adore us, yet adoring those that ignore us; of hurting those that love us and loving those that hurt us. Once in a while, in an ordinary life, can love not find us a fariytale ? It`s not much to ask, yet is an impossible thing to even dream of, when indifference is the ruling force."
If this sounds like a teenager, it's not. It's a bloke old enough to know better!

thebird · 25/03/2011 19:46

Some of these are so funny!

@sloggies where do people get this stuff and just what sort of response did he expect? Eh maybe we ignore you because you're a twat... would be mine!

Why would you want to share this stuff with everyone when you can text, message or chat on FB one to one. Is it a post Big Brother thing where people just want attention for just living? I can understand teenagers as they are pretty self obsessed and into navel gazing, but beyond this I think some people have serious 'issues'.

DrNortherner · 25/03/2011 19:50

Lol. I have loads of friends who do this. One in particular is exceedingly dull - just got up, making a brew/off to have a shower/just getting sorted for work/just drinking my tea/etc etc

And one who lists all of her household chores, constantly.

And one guy who I went to school with constantly feels depressed, he has no life, he ants a girlfriend, he has a girlfriend, his girlfriend cheated, he is lonely, he is drunk....

AARGH.

thebird · 25/03/2011 19:57

And the checkin thing.....just had one

X just checked in at xyx trendy bar/restaurant

More look at me I'm being fabulous, if you were really enjoying the moment you wouldn't feel the need to pull out your BB or iphone and tell everyone there and then!!! ARGHHHH

OP posts:
sloggies · 25/03/2011 20:07

Yes bird if you are doing this, you are not 'living in the present', and this is psychologically not a good thing, apart from being blaaardy annoying!

superv1xen · 25/03/2011 21:03

oh god yeah what the hell is that "checking in" thing about Confused

the ones on mine are always really boring places like sainsburys and the post office and stuff, why would you want to ADVERTISE that you are doing boring things? i don't get it.

atthecarwash · 25/03/2011 21:10

some people think they're so important that everyone is interested in what they're doing.
I just cringe....

UnquietDad · 25/03/2011 22:13

The "RunKeeper" thing really bugs me too. "So-and-so did a Fucking Long Run today! Look, you lazy sods, gaze ye upon the Fucking Long Run I did today! Complete with map and everything!" Oh, FGS, have you got too much time on your hands? I had to laugh when someone did a "WineKeeper" parody, showing how many glasses they had drunk that evening.
