to want action against the anti-buggy brigade?

After ready today's scottish sun about the attacks on mothers with buggies (p35), i felt sick and angry at these mindless morons who attack anybody with a buggy. What kind of mindless thug goes around attacking people with small children? Especially those with special needs. The bus driver should be utterly ashamed of himself, as should the thugs that attacked the mother of a disabled child. I have never been attacked (thank god), and can only assume what it must be like. I have had the stares, and the remarks (mine are a little older, no SN), and have rammed people with the buggy who wouldn't get out the way.
So AIBU to want action against those who attack mothers in the street, or the bus, etc, because they have a buggy?

Rant over, now for a drink!

You have rammed people with your buggy to get them out of your way???? Hmm

soangryIcouldspit · 22/03/2011 21:03

People attack people on the street because they have a buggy?

hardhatdonned · 22/03/2011 21:03

HAve you got a link?

I can't stand buggies and pushchairs. Or rather I can't stand the morons pushing them who think they own the path and happily walk side by side on the pavement on a busy main road, refuse to move and expect me to walk in the road...go single file you nobs!

Never mind the ones who bang your ankles to queue jump.

Or the ones who hang so much shopping on the buggy it tips over

But i'd NEVER lash out or condone anyone lashing out under any circumstances!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/03/2011 21:04

I don't know the story in question but it's typical of this place that the bit that gets pulled out is the least concerning bit of the op.

hardhatdonned · 22/03/2011 21:06

What? The concern is that someone is being violent against mothers. Never acceptable. Ever.

But then nor is slamming buggies into people because of a percieved 'look' or 'stare' causing bodily harm is not a justified action in response to paranoia.

TandB · 22/03/2011 21:15

I assume this is the story

It appears to be a survey of Netmums to see who has been attacked while out with a buggy - not some spate of targetted attacks on buggies as I assumed from the OP.

Unacceptable, obviously, but a bit of a non-story to be honest. You could survey any section of society about being attacked and present the figures in this way.

I also think it is a bit odd that the OP thinks it is OK to ram people with her buggy. And that is helping people's perception of mums with buggies how exactly?

And what sort of action do you propose? Street protests? A MN fightback? The right by mums to carry concealed side-arms perhaps?

NinkyNonker · 22/03/2011 21:19

Ahh, the joy of a sling! Grin

hardhatdonned · 22/03/2011 21:21

Perhaps buggies should be fitted with gladiator style add-ons: the odd sword here, some spikes there, oooooh robot war styled buggies....ahhh the possibilities!

TandB · 22/03/2011 21:21

Ah, but NinkyNonker, there is an anti-sling brigade too. Mainly consisting of old ladies with more opinions than manners.

Met one on the tube today who informed me with a dramatic sad-face that it must be so upsetting for children to be dragged around the underground "in those things" because "it is bad enough for adults after all".

Funny. I have never seen an adult being dragged around in a sling, but heh ho.

dobby2001 · 22/03/2011 21:25

I thought you were referring to more genuine attacks such as the one on this poor woman - that was by another couple with a pushchair though bizarrely Shock www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-12543041

PaisleyLeaf · 22/03/2011 21:29

Those Netmums get into some fights don't they?

JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 22/03/2011 21:31

is this for real, people hate buggies, and buggie users treat them as weapons

ive used combinations of singles/doubles/slings and never ever have i come across any pram related violence this is bloody ridiculous, i have had a women say i should fold my buggy ''because its easier'' on the bus, despite my dd being asleep and her child awake, my response, if you use public transport chose your pram accordingly, she asked what that meant i left her to think on it.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 22/03/2011 21:36

It doesn't state how much of the 'verbal abuse' might have been merited ie by mothers with buggies ramming other people or blocking the aisles in shops while they carry on a long conversation with each other...

MaisyMooCow · 22/03/2011 21:37

I witnessed a buggy mummy verbally abuse a bus driver the other day! Our VERY busy bus already had two buggies on board so the driver told the mum she could either dismantle the buggy and get on or wait for the next bus. Fair enough IMO. However, she went on to give him a right tirade of abuse. He ended up closing the doors on her and driving off leaving us all a bitShock.

messytimemum · 22/03/2011 21:37

kungfupanda, yes thats the story, which also has a bit in it concerning the story that dobby is referring to.
As for the ramming, i know its never justified, but after asking people politely to let you past for 5/10 mins i get frustrated and just give them a nudge with the buggy.
don't know what action was thinking of kungfupanda, just venting off steam i guess

HardHat you would of been amazed at two we saw last week, one on the narrow pavement one in the road who didnt even move back onto the pavement when she saw us driving down the road Shock

OTheHugeManatee · 22/03/2011 21:51

According to legend, when Boudicca fought the Romans she had scythes on the axles of her war chariot.

Perhaps the time has come for the Battle Bugaboo?

TandB · 22/03/2011 21:55

I think the 42% statistic is bollocks. Nearly half of mums have been attacked while out with their buggy? Why don't I know anyone of them is that is true?

Northeastgirl · 22/03/2011 22:04

I think this is rubbish. I've never had any hassle with a buggy. If someone's in the way, I ask them to move and thank them politely when they do. I wouldn't dream of "ramming them" to make them move - how rude! Is this a troll?

MainlyMaynie · 22/03/2011 22:05

If 42% of Mums are 'giving people a nudge' with their buggy, I'm not surprised they're getting attacked. They're starting it. Is it acceptable to give people a nudge with your umbrella to get them out of the way?

MissVerinder · 22/03/2011 22:05

lol @ Battle Bugaboo.
Maryz I think you might be right. The netmums version of being attacked is probably not being offered carrot and ginger juice with a foot massage on the bus.

TandB · 22/03/2011 22:08

Lots of people don't get out of my way when I am commuting. Am I allowed to knock them down and kick them in the head?

tarantula · 22/03/2011 22:16

loving the stats. So this is 42% of Netmums who answered the survey said that they had been attacked in some form or other, which knowing NM could constitute 'Will you that bloomin buggy out of the way please?' by someone who had already asked 3 times. After all any kind of 'foul' language is abusive didn't you know.
