I leave it between 24-48 hours, If longer than that I usually run it again.

Sometimes I run the machine at night which means it doesn't come out til the next morning, or I run it first thing and I might not get stuff out until later afternoon. But usually it's within an hour or two of finishing.

tbh, unless it obviously smells when you take it out I'm sure it's fine to not re-wash. In cold weather, I suspect mine could be left 24 hours without starting to stink... but beyond that, no. I go by smell with a lot of things (food useby dates, etc.)

nannyl · 23/03/2011 10:01

0 days..

i get it out asap

my machine has a really long cycle and if using that one i put it on at 11pm.. will finish 2am ish and out by 7.30am... thats the max ever!

Otherwise out within an hour, and more often than not within 2 mins of finishing

mousymouse · 23/03/2011 10:21

I am a bit Hmm at the posters who leave the mashine running when not in the house. had a nasty leak once...

nannyl · 23/03/2011 10:52

I leave mine on when not in

same as i do the central heating... boilers can leak too! What caused the biggest leak ever in this house was the toilet cistern that cracked itself when we were out.... cue water pouring through the hall, the lounge (all over the sofas), and through the lounge floor, down to the cellar Shock

I certainly dont stay in because electrical appliances are on, though wouldnt leave the iron on, and turn off TV's.

moodymama · 23/03/2011 10:53

My God, what a load of uptight nonsense! Usually I manage to get the washing out of the machine on the same day but only re-wash if it gets to 3 days.
It will only stink straight away if your machine has mould in it, mine doesn't.

As for the people who prefer chemical smell to fresh air - I am flabbergasted!

There's more to life than washing ladies, put down the washing powder and get out of the house.

TobyLerone · 23/03/2011 11:45

My washing machine is brand new, and I never leave it in longer than a couple of hours, so to be fair I don't know if that's true about the mould.

Seriously at 3 days.

Mymblesson · 23/03/2011 12:25

Overnight at the most if I've put a wash on before going to bed. Hung up next morning before going to work.

I once forgot and left some washing in for a couple of days - minging!

NotaMopsa · 23/03/2011 20:18

I do agree leaving it in the machine is rank

As for get out anf get some fresh air - it takes five minutes to unload a machine - even if its on four times a day that's twenty minutes

That leaves plenty of time to be outdoors Moody - nothing uptight about it - far better than steaming festering laundry ewww

usualsuspect · 23/03/2011 20:25

Does it make you a better housewife if you immediately spring into action once the load is done?

I will pass on that one

NorthernGobshite · 23/03/2011 20:26

Maximum of overnight.

NotaMopsa · 23/03/2011 20:48

was about to post something witty but " beeeeeeeep - beeeeeeeep' hang on the washer has finished - back in 5......

swingingcat · 23/03/2011 20:55

Never, ever!
I also re wash clothes if they caught out in the rain!

I iron nothing!!

crystalglasses · 23/03/2011 20:58

Ocassionally leave for 2-3 days, usually when I've forgotten. By that time the wet clothers smeel something awful I have wash them all over again.

PureBloodMuggle · 23/03/2011 22:06

I wait, dilegently, by my machine for the cycle to end so that nothing is in there longer than a few seconds. I re-wash after 10 seconds

PureBloodMuggle · 23/03/2011 22:07

'diligently' even

CocktailQueen · 23/03/2011 22:08

I put a wash on when I will be around to take it out - hate the thought of wet washing moulding in the machine - gah!

Jacanne · 23/03/2011 22:31

I washed one load of washing 3 times once because I kept forgetting to take it out. Usually I will leave it over night but no longer and if it smells even slightly musty I re-wash it.

usualsuspect · 23/03/2011 22:33

I never rewash it

NotaMopsa · 23/03/2011 22:36

I am slightly in awe of those of you who can leave the wahing in for more than a millisecond

I do at least 3 washes a day - if i left withought dring it it would stack up as don't use the dryer

mamatomany · 23/03/2011 22:37

I got told off by the fire man who came to fit new smoke alarms for sticking the washing on and going out, apparently it's far better that you are at home should the washing machine catch fire.

CheekyLittleSox · 23/03/2011 23:23

3 Days?? Shock

i get all flustered if i leave it 2 hours and forget, so i stick it on a quick wash to freshen then get it out and hang on radiators or on airers. Dont usally hang washing out cos of spiders. plus i like my house smelling of fresh washing.

~Had left washing in washing machine for a day though but i always re-wash on a quick wash before getting it out otherwise it smells.

CheekyLittleSox · 23/03/2011 23:24

Also the poster who said she doesnt re-wash after its been raining but waits for the sun to come out again - thats minging.

Rain water isnt clean..........is it Confused

CheekyLittleSox · 23/03/2011 23:25

fresh i mean. Surely it isnt,

the water that falls is the water that has been evaporated back up into the atmosphere/sky isnt it?
