DD3's birthday yesterday and so I sent in a a variety pack of funsize chocolates in for her to distribute today. I'm not keen on fhe idea but I'm always one to cave to peer group pressure.

The bag contained 45 treats, 30 in the class, by my reckoning I should be able to to have a copious chocolate feast tonight after the DC have gone to bed.Grin

The tightshorts teacher gave out the chocs and then put the remainder in the storecupboard in the back of the class.

I knew I should have just sent in exactly 30 but didn't want to appear parsimonious. [wunk]

Ratbungs the lot of them.

She'll probably keep them for prizes.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/03/2011 16:09

She's probably eating them now! Wink

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 21/03/2011 16:12

Teacher will be rubbing her hands in glee muttering "that's me sorted for tonight then".

PepsiPopcorn · 21/03/2011 16:14

Maybe teacher thought it would be rude to return part of your gift?

NoWayNoHow · 21/03/2011 16:16

As a PMT woman going through some serious chocolate cravings at the mo, this would have been enough to drive me to murder. YANBU!

PorkChopSter · 21/03/2011 16:16

The teacher is thinking "there is no such thing as spare chocolate" Wink

B52s · 21/03/2011 16:16

Ha! YABU

PorkChopSter · 21/03/2011 16:16

And FYI there are exactly 30 packets of Haribos in a Starmix bag.

topsyturner · 21/03/2011 16:18

I had the same problem today with my DDs birthday fairy cakes .
Sent in 36 , 25 kids in the class + 1 teacher = unhappy Topsy . (will check teacher for diabetic coma symptoms later)

Can you catch the teacher tomorrow and ask her - ever so nicely Grin - that your dd seems to have forgotten to bring home the remainder of the bars you sent in, which you need to send in as her birthday bars for her Brownie six/ sports club buddies / cousins tea party / Easter bunny/ whatever... Silly forgetful girl that she is yadda yadda

That way looks like you are not accusing teacher of scoffing keeping them but of your dd being a bit scatty - bit unfair on dd maybe, but a politic way of asking the teacher.

Then she'll either give them back with good grace, bad grace or have to admit there are none left. Interesting...

Don't see what's wrong with sending in the right number tbh - unreasonable to send in too few but right number is fine

nickelbabysnatcher · 21/03/2011 16:27

i agree with zipzap.

stream · 21/03/2011 16:28

I've always expected the teachers to finish off any 'spare' chocolates. Grin

ouryve · 21/03/2011 16:50

Why didn't you just send in 30 treats if you wanted the rest?

stoatie · 21/03/2011 16:50

At DD2's school the remainder of choccies are always sent home in book bag (I usually send it 2 bags of chocs - 25 in bag as can't remember how many in class but it is over 25!)

seriouslycantbebothered · 22/03/2011 13:16

come on now you didnt seriously expect to get them back did you . lol

Just a hopeless optimist.

pingu2209 · 22/03/2011 13:18

They will be in the staff room!

compo · 22/03/2011 13:19

We get the rest back here too
wish we didn't because it'd save me and the kids eating them

happypotter · 22/03/2011 13:24

One of the perks of the job, in my opinion Smile I've enjoyed many a fun size snickers or mars bar in the past. Mini bags of Haribo were particular favourites. I think if you were that bothered, you should have taken the time to count out exactly the number for the pupils, if you were feeling generous then one for the teacher and the LSA. Occasionally I'd get a note asking if the extra could be sent home, usually when a HUGE bag of stuff had been sent in. I assume you also saved a little bit of birthday cake for the teacher and sent it in wrapped in a nice little napkin. That always goes down well Wink

kreecherlivesupstairs · 22/03/2011 13:34

I am happily laughing at the idea that the teachers would send any home.
IMO, it is a largely thankless job so any spare choc is a perk.
It is embarrasing to get the spare cakes sent home. I gave DD around 40 for her class (18), teacher, librarian, PE teacher, ladies in the office, caretaker, bus driver etc. She told me that a couple had turned them down. I will admit they were slightly charred on the bottom but that was only visible if you really peered through the paper cases.

Mandy2003 · 22/03/2011 14:04

YABU! I dread to think of the embarrassment if you follow Zipzap's advice - they'll HAVE BEEN ET in the staff room by now Grin

valiumredhead · 22/03/2011 14:12

Go and buy yourself some more chocolate if you really want some that badly, seriously! Shock

TobyLerone · 22/03/2011 14:15

I wouldn't give a toss if they didn't come home, tbh. Lesson learnt, I think, OP Grin

valiumredhead · 22/03/2011 14:17

I'm stunned anyone would expect them to come home!
