because everyone I've ever mentioned it to thinks it minging

OP posts:
midlandsmumof4 · 21/03/2011 00:30

Whats minging about it? Seems like a time saver so I might try it Grin I rinse my mouth with warm water what from the hot tap..what's wrong with that?

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 21/03/2011 00:37

if you're drinking the water you might want to look up the instructions for toothbrushing again.

Bogeyface · 21/03/2011 00:39

So you cant spit where his feet will be, but he can wash his knob and let the water drip where your feet will be?

I know which of you I would rather follow into the shower!

Morloth · 21/03/2011 05:25

I have always brushed my teeth in the shower, they don't feel properly clean if I do it at the sink because you can rinse so much better.

I drink warm water from the tap as well, once again like washing clothes in cold water after 33 years I am not dead.

Some people worry about the strangest things.

nooka · 21/03/2011 05:37

I can't see why it might be considered 'minging' but I imagine it's a bit wasteful of water as presumably it means that you are showing for longer - I can't imagine that you are so good a multitasker that you can wash your body with one hand and your teeth with the other?

Seems like a fairly harmless idiosyncrasy.

ascouser · 21/03/2011 05:48

Never thought of doing this before..but might consider it. Multi-tasking. Like it

garlicbutter · 21/03/2011 06:03

I do, too. Only started a couple of years ago, when the bathroom was so cold I wanted to be under hot water instead of shivering at the sink! But, yes, it feels cleaner. Now I wash my face in the shower as well.

Mind you, I do sometimes pee in the shower! I'm a definite minger Grin Blush

4FoxAche · 21/03/2011 06:24

I do this.

I don't tend to drink water when I'm brushing my teeth though so think I'm alright on that front.

gorionine · 21/03/2011 06:36

I do itSmile

Why minging? I do not drink any water when I brush my teeth BTW, just rince my mouth.

Caz10 · 21/03/2011 06:44

I do it! While rinsing out conditioner, so water would be running anyway. You are not meant to rinse with water after toothbrushing any more anyway, dilutes and washes away the fluoride that should protect your teeth, I just use mouthwash when I get out.

Multitasking not minging!!

trumpton · 21/03/2011 06:46

Oh I thought I was strange for brushing my teeth in the shower and always make sure I put my brush back next to the sink afterwards in case the family guess. But I tend to wash my knickers while I am in the shower and dry them on radiator.(then I throw them in washing basket to go through machine) ( Now I think that's a bit weird)

carabos · 21/03/2011 08:52

I have always brushed my teeth in the shower with hot water and never occurred to me that this wasn't completely normal! The water is running through the combi boiler, not coming out of a tank and if you have sensitive teeth it's impossible to brush your teeth in cold water anyway. The spit gets immediately washed away as the shower is running.

Meglet · 21/03/2011 08:54

I do it sometimes, usually if I have deep conditioner I need to leave on my hair for a couple of minutes. I put the toothbrush under the cold tap in the sink to rinse it (small bathroom).

InPraiseOfBacchus · 21/03/2011 08:58

Ok, maybe there's 'gross-looking' stuff in a hot water tank, but it'll hardly poison one! Immune system mutter mutter filtration mutter mutter

I do it all the time. Just because stuff looks 'dirty' doesn't mean it's 'unhealthy'. I don't think I catch diseases any more frequently than anyone else!

Jude89 · 21/03/2011 08:59

Depends if you're using an electric toothbrush, you might get a shock!

FruStefanLindman · 21/03/2011 10:48

It's never occurred to me that some people do brush their teeth in the shower - but it doesn't sound the least bit odd (or minging) to me. Carry On Showerbrushing. Smile

Jude89 - erm, an electric toothbrush is designed to get wet Grin

BigBadMummy · 21/03/2011 10:49

My DH does his whilst sitting on the loo. So no, in my opinion, brushing them whilst in the shower is perfectly acceptable.

His method on the other hand, is rank.

FER1 · 21/03/2011 10:51

I do it all the time. Every morning. It saves time and isn't unhygenic at all. There's no soap involved and I don't see how it could be considered minging.

HipHopopotomus · 21/03/2011 10:54

I've always brushed my teeth in the shower. Clean myself top to toe in once space at one time. At night I brush my teeth in the sink. Can't believe anyone would have an issue with shower teeth brushing Shock - it's multitasking and probably saves water too.

All our water is mains pressure (no hot/cold water tank), not that it would make a difference. I have sensitive teeth so on advice from dentist I rinse very lightly (well dentist says not to rise at all, but I do rise lightly).

thefirstMrsDeVere · 21/03/2011 10:58

I always brush my teeth in the shower!

I havent got time to do both otherwise

[supermum, martyr smiley face]

No, seriously if I didnt I would have to share a sink with three small boys and wouldnt come out of the bathroom unscathed. I would be covered in mis-aimed spit and toothpaste.

I floss in the shower too Grin

PurveyorOfWoo · 21/03/2011 11:05

Urgh.

Shower heads are breeding grounds for bacteria

Bluemoonrising · 21/03/2011 11:05

Wow, lots of people are wasting a lot of water. Two minutes to brush your teeth under the shower, when it really doesn't need to be running.

I get in the shower, wash hair, condition, wash body, rinse hair and out. I don't have a 'spare' two minutes in there to brush my teeth.

And how on earth can it save water? You can brush your teeth perfectly well without having water running the whole time.

I have no issue with it on a cleanliness score, but it is certainly wasteful.

PurveyorOfWoo · 21/03/2011 11:06

Good point Bluemoonrising

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 21/03/2011 11:19

If you have a long shower anyway though, its no difference.

and I don;t get the bacteria thing, aren't you washing yourself in this water, getting it all over you? so if its too dirty or disease ridden to briefly rinse your mouth out, what the hell are you doing washing in it?
