To want to e-mail this guy from a dating site with this?

FisticuffsBartholomew · 17/03/2011 20:27

So he e-mails me as an opening salvo:

Galaxy or Dairy Milk

Red or white wine

Corrie or Eastenders

and I am tempted to e-mail him back:

Aristotle or Plato

Ibsen or Brecht

Nadezhda Krupskaya or Rosa Luxembourg

Can't think why I'm single....

I'd block him for the simple reason he asked which soap you prefer Grin

MaisyMooCow · 17/03/2011 20:35

Sounds like half the guys at my office.

FabbyChic · 17/03/2011 20:35

Do it and let us know if he gets back to you or rights you off as a nut job.

berlinnovels · 17/03/2011 20:39

Yep, cos the idea is to cast your net as wide as possible rather than find someone you have something in common with. Hmm

sloggies · 17/03/2011 20:41

Yes, do it and come back and tell.... :)

FisticuffsBartholomew · 17/03/2011 20:44

Thing is, he is quite good looking.

But the sheer boredom of a date with someone who thinks that opening is a good idea...

Double dare ya Grin

and YANBU.

Some time ago, my username on a particular dating site was a v famous literary heroine, a name which was fairly obviously not my own name...think Anna Karenin (though that wasn't it).

Every message I got said, Hi Anna, how are you/Your surname is really unusual where are you from/and so on...Hmmthey really were too stupid even to mock!

MrsTicklemouse · 17/03/2011 20:58

oooh triple dare you!

FabbyChic · 17/03/2011 21:11

Wheeyhey! Please let us know what he says.

Vagabond · 17/03/2011 21:24

The bigger question is: do you really want to meet a guy who can answer all your questions without the help of Wikipedia?

You might end up with a pale German, chook legs, who strokes his beard thoughtfully while he contemplates philosophies' bigger issues. Do you really want that on a date?! Hell no!

I admit, his questions were very low-brow but perhaps he's new at this and thought it was a good starting point. A good reply would be to ask him to send more searching questions.

Good luck though! I'll be interested to hear what he answers!

googoomama · 17/03/2011 21:59

I think that was quite nice actually. At least it wasn't "What are you wearing?" Hmm

BaronessBomburst · 17/03/2011 22:00

Marking my place on this one!

ninah · 17/03/2011 22:02

lol @ hate
I bet you were emma

YellowDinosaur · 17/03/2011 22:07

Yep I'm with Vagabond on this one.

I sent similar (although admittedly a bit more witty but not very high brow) questions when I did internet dating. Makes a change from just wanking on about how you have SO much in common imho.

I would have just answered the questions and then asked some slightly more intellectual ones that are a bit more 'you'. Tbh I think your reply makes you sound like you are pretentious and up yourself and if I were him that would be a big turn off.

Oh and by the way I met my now dh with this kind of approach (and I am not thick by most peoples standards!) so don't be too quick to knock it!
