Bloody annoyed with my neighbour

They have a stupid little yappy dog that barks the whole time it's out in the garden.
She normally leaves it out for about 15 mins then gets it in, but today it's out there yapping and her car is gone so I assume she's gone out and left it in the garden!

Seriously driving me mad now :(

Throw something at it* Smile. We've got similar, the overemotionals next door sometimes have a small dog staying with them. They also have nine cats which appear to torment the dog which results in incessant yapping.

  • that was a joke BTW.
fizzyliftinggas · 17/03/2011 09:46

Oh my god, our neighbours are the same, they have a scratty little horror of a dog [dog lover emoticon] and it yaps at the back door all day.
The only way I have found is to get on with something else and my mind seems to blank it out somewhat!

princessofpersians · 17/03/2011 09:48

Same here, small dog that barks the whole time it is left on its own. It is currently barking continuously whilst my neighbours are out. Drives me mad!!!

Bananamash · 17/03/2011 09:52

If you really want to put a stop to it....

Does the dog have access to shelter and water whilst she is out? If not i think you can call teh RSPCA. They may also make it clear to her that it is not on to leave her dog out there for ages barking it's head off!

LineRunner · 17/03/2011 09:53

Have you ever tried leaning over the fence and telling it to be quiet? Works every time with my neighbour's dog. I also give it a pat on the head because it's clearly lonely. Actually I feel really sorry for it. Horrible bloody noise, though.

reelingintheyears · 17/03/2011 09:54

Blimey Kreecher...that's a bit harsh...Wink

HeidiKat · 17/03/2011 11:21

Chuck it a sausage with a valium hidden in it? Wink

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/03/2011 11:23

Can you not throw one of those chewy bone things over the fence. They keep my dog quiet for ages. You can then later post the receipt for it through your neighbours letterbox asking for reimbursment! Wink

RunAwayWife · 17/03/2011 11:30

Chuck it a sausage filled with rat poison, that will stop it

lusciousliz · 17/03/2011 11:32

nice

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 17/03/2011 11:36

throw it a chew... how annoying!

DaffodilsAndScillas · 17/03/2011 12:18

RunAwayWife "Chuck it a sausage filled with rat poison, that will stop it"

My neighbour's noisy child has been annoying me with his constant shrieking lately - I reckon I'll chuck him a treat spiked with rat poison too. Hilarious eh?
Hmm

bupcakesandcunting · 17/03/2011 12:46

YANBU. I had a neighbour that used to leave two huge irish wolfhounds inside her tiny terraced house for twelve hours a day, shreiking and howling. Rather than go off at the deep end, I pushed her a nice note through her door saying "Hi, hvae noticed your dogs are in all day when you are out. If you need them let out for toilets etc, let me know, will be happy to do it for you if you need me to"

She never spoke to me again. Mad cow. Then when the landlord went in after she flitted off, there was dog shit EVERYWHERE. Dirty mare.

Sorry for hijack.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/03/2011 13:01

I think some people are reacting a tiny bit hysterically. I truly doubt there are people who would honestly throw pharmacutically laden treats over the fence. Chill.

gallifrey · 17/03/2011 13:05

I shouted out the window at it, it was quiet for about 3 mins then started again.
My neighbour was out for an hour, but let it in when she came back.

An RSPCA van was in our road the other day, wonder if someone else had phoned them about her?

People who take everything literally - silly sausages. I would like to see them burned at the stake.

Vallhala · 17/03/2011 13:06

kreecher, I beg to differ. I know that there are people out there who have done such things.

And whilst I grinned at your joking comment and disclaimer I think that RunAwayWifes remark was that of a seriously disturbed human being.

Gallifrey, you can speak to the neighbour and offer to dog sit as has been suggested on here, of you're feeling kind, you can report to the RSPCA if the dog has no access to shelter and/or water and they might do something about it in a few days time, you can ring your dog warden and ask them to visit the neighbour with "advice" and a warning of further action if the problem of noise nuisance continues or you can just tell the neighbour that what they did was unacceptable from the POV of the dog and locals when the neighbour returns, and that you don't expect it to happen again.

Rhinestone · 17/03/2011 13:08

Poor dog. Do you like dogs enough to offer to walk it for her? It probably just wants some human company and is lonely and scared.

Vallhala · 17/03/2011 13:09

Gallifrey, noise nuisance from a dog is not an RSPCA matter and they would never attend for that reason alone, it's an environmental health issue, to be dealt with by the local council. The RSPCA van wouldn't have been there because of a yapping dog, I can guarantee that.

You're fecking lucky to get them to turn out for a dog left in the snow without shelter IME and even then they may well do nothing about it. Angry

Rhinestone · 17/03/2011 13:10

Or even just go and talk to it over the fence.

Strawbezza · 17/03/2011 13:11

Poor dog must be bored and lonely. You should speak to the owner.

When I was a child we 'dog-sat' a friend's dog for 6 weeks and it did this on the first day - but my mum got dog bones from the butchers (for free) and it was as happy as larry, silently chewing on them for hours.

Fizzy I am loving the word scratty I am definitely going to use it from now on, along with bimble (which means to faff around in a laid-back manner) which is another fab word I got from mumsnet!

ShirleyKnot · 17/03/2011 13:15

bupcakes - are you on a dog thread? Are you?

stubbornhubby · 17/03/2011 13:15
  • when the neighbour is out and the dog is barking / duck quacking
  • go in the garden
  • phone the neighbour
  • wait for the answer machine to pick up
  • hold the phone out to pick up the sound
repeat daily.
