Very Nasty Parent

I went to school assembly as some awards were being given out to some of the children.

There was one little boy(year 3)aged 7/8 who received an award (awards are for school work). Anyway this boy had a squint, or something wrong with his sight. When he was given his award, a mom/dad of another child sitting near me were nudging each other and the dad proceeded to mimic the little boy by squinting at his wife, she was giggling.

I was so angry at them and couldnt say anything during assembly. I am annoyed with myself for not saying anything afterwards. He could have been my child, how dare they behave like that!

AIBU to still be annoyed now and disappointed in myself for not saying anything to these parents?

Thanks

YANBU to still be annoyed but you should be disappointed at them not yourself.

Disgusting behaviour.

breakfastbiscuit · 11/03/2011 16:38

Not nice at all, but don't be to hard on yourself. They would prob have given you a mouthful of abuse if you had said anything.

fedupofnamechanging · 11/03/2011 16:39

Awful people. Hopefully they will have a nasty accident or develop an illness which results in a disability and then experience some other nasty twat laughing at them!

mumbar · 11/03/2011 16:42

YANBU, but you did nothing wrong. Your DC would have been mortified if you'd spoken up and an argument ensued. Not to mention the lad with the squint having it drawn to everyones attention.

SmilingHappyBeaver · 11/03/2011 16:42

YANBU

My eldest little boy has a squint (wears glasses to correct it) and has just started school... I worry that other kids may tease him in the future, but it never occured to me that parents might do it too Shock. Vile. I would have said something to them afterwards in front of some other parents to really embarass them... do they take the piss out of handicapped kids too, or just squinty ones?

What a right pair of muppets.

Anonymousbird · 11/03/2011 16:44

My son is that age, he has a squint. If I had seen them do it to him or another child, I would definitely have said something, having experienced my son having a squint.

But don't be disappointed at yourself, reserve all your annoyance and anger for them

Absolutely disgusting. Ignorant twats.

Rhinestone · 11/03/2011 18:55

Can you speak to the headteacher about it? If I was the headteacher I would want to know and would be having words before they were allowed on the premises again.

CrapBag · 11/03/2011 19:06
Shock

YANBU. They are awful awful people.

If you had said something, they could have been funny, they clearly lack intelligence, I wouldn't have said anything either.

Pity the boys parents didn't hear and shame them.

BakeliteBelle · 11/03/2011 19:06

Please do speak to the headteacher. If it was racial abuse of some sort, it would not be tolerated at all. Unfortunately, abuse of disabled people or people with impairments is endemic. What a couple of bastards

SeeJaneKick · 11/03/2011 19:15

Hard. I would have SO wanted to clip them round the back of the heads. Or bang them together.

What could you do though? In the midde of an assembly. Rest assured that Karma will bite them in the bottom soon enough.

chipmonkey · 11/03/2011 20:09

Sad and Angry at those people. No doubt they are perfect in every way!

nzshar · 11/03/2011 20:09

Ha! DP is blind and has a white cane but if sitting down not so obvious, there is no way I would not have said something but thats me don't be hard on yourself they were in the wrong not you.

chipmonkey · 11/03/2011 20:15

Sorry OP, meant to say, there wasn't much you could do. I'm sure if you had said something, there would have been a scene and the poor little boy would have been made aware of it. I hope their children never develop an eye problem. They sound like the sort who have have their children wander around half-blind before letting them wear glasses.

FreudianSlippery · 11/03/2011 20:21
Angry

Twats. What horrible people.

Don't be annoyed you didn't say anything though, in those situations you never know what reaction you'll get. Do you see these parents around a lot? If you know who they are, you should report it to the head - as already mentioned if it was racism it'd be dealt with.

stoatsrevenge · 11/03/2011 20:27

I heard a father at sports day shout (loudly),"Drop it, Lucy!"
Thought that was a bit of an unkind thing to shout at his 5 year old daughter...until I found out that he was, in fact, shouting at his daughter's friend!

What a B*!

I also kicked myself for not saying anything at the time.

cheekeymonkey · 11/03/2011 20:27

Don't forget Karma, what goes around....Let's hope it's them and not an innocent child. I can't brong myself to swear on mn but I really want to.....

esmerdoo · 11/03/2011 21:20

Unfortunately I dont know who the parents are and dont see them around (very large school over 700 pupils). I wont forget who they are though! Just wish I'd have found out who their child was and then at least could have spoken to head about them.

Vile couple. I can only hope that they dont behave like that in front of their child as I would pity my children being in same class!

Underachieving · 11/03/2011 21:22

Some people are just twats.

Let it go over your head and don't associate with them, people often learn better from the cold shoulder than from a telling off because a telling off they can challenge. To put it in langauge they will understand:- When no one wants to play with you it's time to consider if you smell.

HeathcliffMoorland · 11/03/2011 21:33

Horrible thing to do.

However, I strongly disagree with those who wish them ill.

Also, we don't know that they are horrible. It was a rotten thing to do. Inexcusible. But they may otherwise be nice. Perhaps the boy who won the award had bullied their dc? Unlikely I know, and doesn't make it right. Could explain to some degree though.

mmsmum · 11/03/2011 21:38

Bloody hell that is shocking! Shock I want to say more but all the words coming to mind are swear words!

mmsmum · 11/03/2011 21:39

Heath 'they may otherwise be nice' seriously?! no chance, an adult that would do something like that is a proper nasty piece of work, and two together well, like I said, I am shocked. 'Normal' people wouldn't dream of doing a thing like that!

cheesesarnie · 11/03/2011 21:43

so theyre twats to there dc but they might be nice peopleHmm i think not heath.im all for seing the best in people but you dont make fun of your own childs squint.

HeathcliffMoorland · 11/03/2011 21:51

It wasn't their ds.

I'm not saying I think they're nice. I was just saying that we don't know. And maybe they were not sane of mentally competent.

Plus, I think wishing bodily harm on anyone is as bad as making fun of someone.

HeathcliffMoorland · 11/03/2011 21:51

Or, I mean

cheesesarnie · 11/03/2011 22:04

oh i read it wrong.doesnt matter they are parents.i agree though that just because someones a twat you shouldnt wish violence etc on them.but they are twats.
