Very Nasty Parent

I went to school assembly as some awards were being given out to some of the children.

There was one little boy(year 3)aged 7/8 who received an award (awards are for school work). Anyway this boy had a squint, or something wrong with his sight. When he was given his award, a mom/dad of another child sitting near me were nudging each other and the dad proceeded to mimic the little boy by squinting at his wife, she was giggling.

I was so angry at them and couldnt say anything during assembly. I am annoyed with myself for not saying anything afterwards. He could have been my child, how dare they behave like that!

AIBU to still be annoyed now and disappointed in myself for not saying anything to these parents?

Thanks

I 99.9% agree!

However, there is a chance that they are not of sound/competent mind.

It doesn't make what they did right. However, not only indecent people do indecent things. That is the only point I was making. I don't think they were charming or anything....

Oh. cheesesarnie, your name has made me hungry, I haven't had bread or cheese since Dec. If I break this diet it's YOUR fault!

YANBU

You'll probably find they were jealous as their child didn't get an award but he did.

HipHopopotomus · 14/03/2011 11:32

"Some people are just twats."

Sums it up in a nutshell really! There are all kinds of people out there - our job is to ensure we don't raise our kids to grow up with teeny-tiny minds like those parents!!

thumbwitch · 14/03/2011 11:38

What a repulsive thing for them to have done.
OP, I think you have nothing to reproach yourself for - people like that could possibly have turned on you if you had said something, and it could have created a big nasty scene.
They'll get theirs one day.

aliceliddell · 14/03/2011 11:38

tell headteacher. kids should not have to put up with this shit. the head might want to give extra lessons/support on disability to counteract gits like them. YANBU.

Morloth · 14/03/2011 11:40

What a couple of pricks.

ashamedandconfused · 14/03/2011 11:44

I agree what they were doing was vile. But I dont think there is anything OP or the headteacher can do - these are the sort of parents whose influence on their own DC counteracts anything the school do about disability awareness, discrimination, bullying etc

I disagree with the poster who says they are probably nice people really - no - it is in moments like this, caught out when they thought no one was noticing, that you see a persons true colours. That IS what they are really like, and if they are like that in public, we can only imagine the kind of sick jokes and jibes they make about people when they cannot be overheard.

morons

TandB · 14/03/2011 11:46

Agree with ashamedandconfused. Nice people do not mock disability or difference. They could run a shelter for homeless kitties and they still wouldn't be, deep down where it matters, nice people if they can behave like that.

cuteboots · 14/03/2011 13:45

Unfortunately in life you try and avoid the nasty people but sometimes this isnt always possible. I would deffo mention it to the headteacher. This really made me angry and the only words I could think of were really bad swear ones ones!? Im sure that if you had said anything it probably woudlnt have registered with them!! As mentioned earlier people dont know how to be anything but massive twats.....

esmerdoo · 14/03/2011 14:29

Hi, I will mention it to head teacher at one of the informal coffee mornings that are held for us parents. Obviously nothing can be done but at least school are aware of what happened.

Thanks

How awful - agree with other posters that it was wise not to tackle the parents directly as they were obviously ignorant pond scum and it probably would have not gone well

FabbyChic · 14/03/2011 14:36

I'd have said why are you taking the piss that could be your child.

Why moan about it on here when you didn't have the guts to speak up at the time?
