To really hate people who don't pull down the hoods on buggies in the sun?

Seriously, it does my head in! I always see people pushing buggies towards the sun (I only ever see them heading towards the sun, for some reason!) with the hoods right up, and the poor child in said buggy with a bright red face all scrunched up because they can't see for the sun in their eyes! Does this really bug anyone else or just me?? I just wonder with some people, if you're having difficulty in seeing if you're walking into the sun the surely the child must be aswell???

I very often find that the hood makes bugger all difference in this situation. It doesn't provide enough shade to prevent this from most angles and particularly not if you're walking straight into the sun.

BetamaxBandit · 11/03/2011 11:37

That's why we have eyelids.

KnittedBreast · 11/03/2011 11:37

yabu.

NestaFiesta · 11/03/2011 11:39

So if it's sunny Mothers need to walk AWAY from their destination if the sun is in that direction? I don't think you can protect children from everything you know. The sun comes out in summer. Some buggies don't have hoods. A baby getting the sun in their eyes is a short lived occupational hazard of summer. As long they've got a bit of sun cream on, you can't shield them from the actual sun, because it is in the sky.

You can't protect them from everything.

NestaFiesta · 11/03/2011 11:40

Also to "really hate people" who do this, is a bit strong isn't it?

microfight · 11/03/2011 11:40

I think YABU.

Have you read the recent report about a increase in children with rickets especially amongst the middle classes. The doctors are saying it's due to lack of exposure to the sun. Just a thought! Not saying that babies should be made to squint uncomfortably because of bright sun light but I always think if it's uncomfortable for the baby they'll let you know. Mine certainly did if the sun was getting in their eyes. If they're not uncomfortable especially in spring when the suns not so harmful then let them get some sunlight on their faces.

BooBooGlass · 11/03/2011 11:40

Mummy to be eh? You'll see soon enough

DaisyDaresYOU · 11/03/2011 11:40

Even with a parasol and hood up I still have job keeping the sun of dd

cheesesarnie · 11/03/2011 11:42

Grin beta.
yabu-hoods on buggies are usually rubbish and the child should be wearing a sunhat to protect from the sun anyway.

and you said about walking towards the sun?so everyone should cancel trips out if the suns facing them.but what about rear facing pushchairs aha!

load of rubbish, find something else to get your knickers in a twist about.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 11/03/2011 11:44

Oh my god, I did this earlier! What will happen to my dd now she has been touched by the sun's rays? Will there be permanent damage??

Seriously op, calm down, it's a bit of sunlight. In march. And personally, I quite like having some sun on my face after a long winter. Plus, as someone else said, buggy hoods aren't even that good at keeping the sun off their face.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/03/2011 11:46

YABU. They're not pushing their children into the surface of the sun. We can squint for a reason.

belgo · 11/03/2011 11:46

My mil told me to take ds out in the pushchair deliberately facing the sun, so that he would close his eyes and go to sleepGrin.

Apart from that, babies and children need vitamin D from the sun; the sun is not our enemy. We need it for good health.

sevendwarves · 11/03/2011 11:48

YABU DS hates the hood being up and if I try putting it up he cries until I put it down again. In the summer he has a hat and suncream on anyway.

OP it's attitudes like this which is why rickets is on the increase Hmm

Onetoomanycornettos · 11/03/2011 11:48

It's extremely important they get some sun or daylight exposure, constantly shielding children and applying sun cream in March (!) means they are not getting Vit D. No need to go to the other extreme and expose them too much, but having a 20 min walk, some of which is in sunlight is absolutely the right thing for them.

DaisyDaresYOU · 11/03/2011 12:01

And it's only march.I don't shade dd atall until it starts to get hot.Only because I worry about her burning because of my awful experience of sunburnt I had as a child. But a bit of sun is not harmful

twilight3 · 11/03/2011 12:02

I really hate people who think that they care more and could care better for my children that I do.

So YABU

I always found a bit of bright sun really aided a quick nap Wink when ds was in his buggy!

clitorisorclitoraint · 11/03/2011 12:04

YAB a loon!

Muser · 11/03/2011 12:05

My 4 week old baby has jaundice. We were told to sit her in every bit of sunlight we could grab to help clear it up. So, yes, YABU.

LordVolAuVent · 11/03/2011 12:05

I'd report them to SS. or mind your own business, either way...

cheesesarnie · 11/03/2011 12:10

anyway if hoods down, where would you put your fags and special brew?answer me that.
