To expect royal mail to actually deliver my mail instead of stealing it???

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 13:27

they never lose my bills or junk mail - every parcel arrives accidentally opened or doesn't arrive at all. Waiting for a digi camera at the moment posted on march the 1st - will never arrive cos the theiving bastards have probably already got it on ebay!!

wow, thats a bit of a sweeping generalisation. Maybe you should phone your local delivery office and say you suspect your postman may be up to something. A few dishonest workers out of many is far more plausible than a whole industry.

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 14:03

The question was "Am I being unreasonable to expect Royal Mail (as a company) to deliver my mail and not steal it?"

If one member of staff steals my mail, the company have failed to deliver it. Simples. No sweeping generalisation.

in the last two addresses I have lived we've had problem with the post. several different post"men" so no YANBU to want your mail!

FabbyChic · 10/03/2011 14:12

Mail does get lost, how do you even know it was sent? If someone was sending you a digi camera they should have sent it signed for.

HecateTheCrone · 10/03/2011 14:13

How do you know it is being stolen?

Royal mail are very incompetent. It could be that.

You could always start posting parcels to yourself, weigh them down with stones or something and have a big piece of paper in there saying "STOP STEALING MY PARCELS YOU BUNCH OF FUCKING BASTARDS"

supersewer · 10/03/2011 14:14

YABU I have a lovely Postman who hides my parcels in a safe place when I'm not in, stops for a chat, smiles at my kids etc... all round nice guy, I object tohim being called a thief.

get onto your supplier, if parcel hasn't arrived, they chose the mode of delivery or pay extra and get it signed for if you are really bothered.

jazz412 · 10/03/2011 14:17

supersewer - you're one of the lucky ones! I have a friend who's a postman and I WISH he was mine as he IS lovely and sounds much like your postman :)

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 14:19

it was sent from BIL who sent it recorded delivery. If you think i am being unreasonable I suggest you go to the post office and try and make a claim!!! waste of time you will find

and supersewer I din't call your postie a thief - I said that royal mail steal my post which is true - they do. It's a bit like if a fuse blows in your car - you say my car has broken down! doesn't mean every component in the car is broken but your car has still broken down

HecateTheCrone · 10/03/2011 14:30

If it is recorded delivery, where are they saying it has gone? I thought it has to be recorded?

Are they just saying tough luck?

valiumredhead · 10/03/2011 14:33

At our last address we had lots of mail that didn't turn up. One day we had a big clear bag delivered with all our mail from the previous 6 months that had been found in our postie's house! Shock All ds's birthday cards, minus the money etc, basically anything that looked like it was of value.

The enclosed explanation from RM said that the postie had been sacked and arrested.

It does happen.

mmsmum · 10/03/2011 14:37

YANBU But I don't think it will change, I suspect some people want the job just to steal from people! My current postmen are alright but I've not had anything on value delivered by RM lately. At my last address they never ever brought parcels to the door, one day I waited in for an expected delivery and caught the postie delivering a red 'you were out' card, he didn't bring the parcel! Sender did get a refund

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/03/2011 14:43

Do you have a tracking number?

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 14:46

yeah .... it just says we have your parcel!!!! it might as well say (and you're not going to get it!!! mwhahahahah) after it

willow · 10/03/2011 15:32

YABU - they do it to us too, why should we be the only ones to suffer?

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 15:33

"I think hecates idea is ace." so do I

MoonGirl1981 · 10/03/2011 15:46

My postman does the red 'you were out' card thing.

He posts it and them RUNS down the street. I've watched him.

crockydoodle · 10/03/2011 15:53

I object to being called a thief. I work for Royal Mail. I do not wish to carry a box of stones to your house. But if you post it I will bring it. That is my job.

Oh, and we're not all postmen. Some of us are female.

MoonGirl1981 · 10/03/2011 15:57

Many postmen sign the recorded slips themselves. My old postman used to do it and then dump it on my doorstep.

I returned an item to an ebay seller a few weeks back and she found it outside her home 'signed'.

Is ridiculous!

BringBackGoingForGold · 10/03/2011 16:08

Royal Mail failed to deliver post to me for a full three months a few years ago. I eventually got suspicious and investigated/got them to investigate. Our post was found stuffed into the postperson's locker. They hadn't delivered it because there was scaffolding outside our flat, on the steps, and they couldn't be arsed to or perhaps were too fat to found it impossible to get past. So instead of a) reporting it to their manager or b) posting stuff through the upstairs door instead, they hid it ...

I recently had a 'Special Delivery' parcel arrive at 5.50pm. The postperson snatched the form off me while I was still signing and legged it as I shouted after them trying to ask why it was so late/what I could do for recompense.

I had a 'while you were out' card left for a very time-sensitive parcel, when I'd stayed home all day listening for the doorbell (it is v loud and unmistakeable). I nearly missed a work deadline and had to lay out my own money and time to save the situation. I asked RM for compensation and (more importantly) an apology and acknowledgment that they'd got it wrong, but despite escalating my complaint up through the levels right to the supposedly 'independent' Postal Review Panel, nothing came of it. They would not consider me for compensation and stuck to their claim that the postperson had tried the door before leaving the card. When I continued to write they stonewalled then ignored me.

I'm not a fan. YADNBU. At all.

fedupofnamechanging · 10/03/2011 16:19

There are some lovely posties out there, but also quite a few thieving bastards. RM fails to deal with these properly.

A cynic might think that the management of RM deliberately wants the public to hate the company, so there will be no public outcry when the government sells off the lucrative parts for profit, and just leaves RM to deliver to the places that the private companies find too much hassle.

willow · 10/03/2011 16:43

Crockydoodle - am sure you are lovely, but we've had enough of 90% of birthday cards being opened; Amazon deliveries going missing etc etc. Funnily enough, bills and boring post always arrive untouched. We have reported it to Royal Mail and are one step away from calling the police about it. Don't think it's our postman - he's a sweetie - but someone along the way is having a laugh.

BettyCash · 10/03/2011 16:47

@crockydoodle There's no doubt that the majority of postpeople are honest and hard-working but, come on, are you telling me you've never seen or heard of theft by postal workers?
