they never lose my bills or junk mail - every parcel arrives accidentally opened or doesn't arrive at all. Waiting for a digi camera at the moment posted on march the 1st - will never arrive cos the theiving bastards have probably already got it on ebay!!

My mail is always delivered promptly and in perfect nick by our lovely postmen.
YABU to tar them all with the same brush.

DuplicitousBitch · 10/03/2011 16:56

I've never had anything go missing. The worst thing is a package was delayed with the heavy snow.

Get the tracking number for the recorded delivery and check on the royal mail website. If it's been signed for, I think you can request a copy of the signature.

If you buy online, it's the merchant's responsibility to get the goods to you. Always use Paypal on ebay, if anything goes missing and they can't provide a tracking number you'll get a refund.

secretsquirrel1 · 10/03/2011 17:08

Gold, I'm sure you're right about that.

But even in the good old days (I'm talking early '80's!) I had stuff go missing. My parents sent me a dress I'd only worn once, and that went missing. I'm still fuming about that......Angry

This Christmas just gone a parcel still hasn't arrived....I've tried investigating, and was blithely told 'we're still mopping up after all the bad weather'!! Crock of crap, if you ask me!

Incidentally, I always send everything by recorded delivery - at least I know that way it has some chance of getting there.

TotemPole · 10/03/2011 17:12

Keep a detailed log from now and make a complaint.

If that doesn't work try postwatch.

I sent my passPort and other items for crb check and it didnt turn up. I'm well out of pocket !

HipHopopotomus · 10/03/2011 18:07

a sorting office in west London was notoriously bad - they had to do an undercover operation a few years back and discovered loads of thieving was going on. Lots of record companies etc in West London and so lots of CD's in the post - they were lucky to arrive at their destimation. It does happen. You need to make a complaint - others will be complaining too and they will investigate eventually (I hope)

FabbyChic · 10/03/2011 18:08

Er Recorded is not tracked it can go missing, it is not safe to send anything recorded it is not a guaranteed service.

Get over yourself.

ddubsgirl · 10/03/2011 18:16

my in laws have had a camcorder go missing, mil brought it in oct online from a store, never turned up,have had to go to the police etc to report it but still not sorted and the company hasnt refunded as the cam is now no longer available :(

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 18:48

"Er Recorded is not tracked it can go missing, it is not safe to send anything recorded it is not a guaranteed service.

oh yeah how silly of people to expect to post something and it to get where its supposed to go! fucking idiots really expecting to get what they pay for

OP posts:
HecateTheCrone · 11/03/2011 06:40

recorded isn't tracked?

I didn't know that.

Must be their use of the word 'recorded' that makes people think they are keeping track of it Grin

So what do they mean by 'recorded' and what is it they are recording?

Bogeyface · 11/03/2011 07:14

Recorded delivery isnt guaranteed delivery, it simply means that you get proof of delivery when (if?!) it does get there, by the signature. But that only works if the postie (or whoever) doesnt forge the signature of the recipient.

If have to send anything expensive (rare!) then I send it special delivery as although it is more expensive, it is a guaranteed service with insurance etc. It is open to theft, but less so I think.

Punkatheart · 11/03/2011 08:05

But it's not the postmen - it is often the staff at the sorting office. There have been people caught doing it. Our sorting office is in Reading and they have a notorious problem there - it has been caught on camera and there have been sackings. It's fact, I'm afraid - not slander or nastiness. Sad how the odd criminal will spoil it for the majority of lovely hardworking postal workers. It's a tough area to work in apparently, as everyone is quick to blame but slow to praise.

So Alan - my postman - you're a star. It's all the others. (as they say)

colditz · 11/03/2011 08:12

My mail goes missing whenever it is from my uncle in Canada. Someone responsible for foreign deliveries, maybe on the canadian side, is light fingered Angry

HairyTruckDriver · 11/03/2011 12:16

well I went into the sorting depot again armed with my tracking number to get this sorted ..... the guy on the desk didn't offer an apology but said he didn't know where my parcel was and that the tracking number makes absolutely no difference because he can only see the same info as I can on the website.....

in other words - "just fuck off and stop expecting us to do our jobs - I don't care about you or your fucking parcel, I am just happy to get paid for fuck all and there's not a thing you can do about it - fuck off"

OP posts:
worraliberty · 11/03/2011 12:22

Fuck 'em

HairyTruckDriver · 11/03/2011 12:29

In this day and age how can any service not be guaranteed to do what it says on the tin?? If you put a parcel in at the post office with the correct stamps and address on it it should (sorry to make a radical suggestion here) fucking well get there.

fucking hell what is wrong with this country??? why are people happy just to give away their hard earned dosh and get nothing in return part from having their goods stolen???

Mumofaflump · 11/03/2011 12:49

My step-mum sent me £100 in Duo vouchers by recorded delivery...it never showed up. She requested a proof of delivery and someone had just written my name for the signature, exactly as it was on the envelope! She can't get compensation and her claim has been rejected as my "signature" proves it was delivered...!

So no, you are definately not being unreasonable.

PipCarrier · 11/03/2011 13:25

I don't think you're being unreasonable either. It is a service we pay for like any other and we have the right to expect certain standards.

I'm having exactly the same problems with my post at the moment. MIL posted me a card which took 3 weeks to arrive (first class), other cards have never been received or turn up late and opened. Parcels go 'missing' and so did a tax disc...but funnily enough no bill, junk mail or anything that looks uninteresting ever arrives late or damaged...odd that...
