to be upset at models in shorts at my dhs work meeting when 30 weeks pg

I am 30 weeks pregnant.Dh recently went to a meeting at his work. There were two "models" being photographed outside the building with the managers. The meeting was for about 3o engineers, all male. They were the only two women there in their work vests, T shirt and very short shorts.
They had a presentation in the meeting inside and then a quiz on the content of the presentation. Anyone who got an answer right received a prize from the women, and got to have their photo taken with them after the meeting.
As I'm 30 wks pregnant and very hormonal this upset me a lot. My dh gave me lots of reassurance and said he didn't like them, didn't take part, didn't look at them etc. but I feel realy angry at his company for such sexism. Most of the engineers are married, and I know one of them has a sick wife so I don't think she'll be that impressed either.
Am I overreacting about being upset about it?It happened a few weeks ago and I've calmed down a bit now but at the time I was devastated!

If all the men who claim that they are uncomfortable with these types of situations actually said that at the time, this stuff would stop. I wonder why they don't.

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 10/03/2011 14:43

But it's only a couple of models??? I must be missing something???? What I would give to see a couple of nice male models - would def brighten up my working day but wouldnt mean I love my DH any less!!

"I don't think being pregnant has any bearing on the sexism. I'd be absolutely fucking apoplectic if something like this was done at my husband's work. It is completely and utterly inappropriate at any time, in any work place."

I agree.

hear hear.

I expect the models were jolly bored. It's not exactly London Fashion Week, is it?

Some of the posters on MN really overreact at anything that men do and I don't think it's helpful to you, OP. Your husband has been reassuring and this was some weeks ago now. It really is not worth winding yourself up about as you have nothing to worry about from your husband.

Chalk it up to hormones and put it behind you.

Of course YANBU.

Frankly I'm astonished at the posters who see nothing wrong with scantily clad women being there only to be decoration. And the subtext is the women are the "prize" for doing well. Ugh!!!! Insitutalised sexism of a type I had hoped society would have grown out of by now.

superv1xen · 10/03/2011 15:53

omg this would really PISS me off too, pregnant or no! how sexist and offensive Confused

your dh sounds lovely though.

PlasticLentilWeaver · 10/03/2011 15:58

A lot of people, be they male or female feel uncomfortable about speaking out about things that they know are wrong. You only have to look at the threads on here with people saying 'should I have said something'. Either they are scared of isolating themselves, embarrassment, dislike confrontation, think that if they are in the minority they must be wrong etc.

And I completely disagree with desperate. Sexism is no better the other way round. I do not want to see semi-naked men parading round my workplace.

PaisleyLeaf · 10/03/2011 15:58

I'm not in the least bit surprised about it being Virgin media. And if that's who he works for I think you'll be seeing a load more of it.
My sister used to work at Virgin cinema - it was no coincidence that all the girls on the popcorn stall were blond and good looking. and were often presented with cheeky, sexist, tight, slogan, t-shirts to wear for various promotions.

designergirl · 10/03/2011 16:02

He works for another company who VM use to install the TV,telephone and Broadband. This was the first Virgin meeting he had been to

I don't see any harm in it. It sounds like a lot of fun and probably brightened an otherwise dull day at work.
