in varying shades of pink too...its all i ever put DD in (she is 20 months) but one of my friends says she hates it and would not let her DD be seen dead in it :o

so whats the MN verdict? cute or tacky?

(strongly suspects verdict will be chavvy/tacky etc!)

I just purchased a pair of HK crocs.

For me.

I should have namechanged shouldn't I?!

JamaicaGeisha · 08/03/2011 21:28

Hello Kitty is great. Character clothing in general is a bit tacky though, in my opinion.

Not that one but same thing by sound of. in hindsight no worse than the care bear shite videos me and my sister used to watch even when our mum begged us not to. Grin

LadyOfTheManor · 08/03/2011 21:39

dd(3) has a hk t-shirt and 2 hk teddies. I can't see the harm in it. I wouldn't dress it in myself Wink

BulletWithAName · 08/03/2011 23:57

I adore Hello Kitty superv1xen, and I buy my DD (23 months) everything with Hello Kitty on it! I don't care if people think it's chavvy/tacky etc, you're entitled to your opinion! I personally think mini Boden clothing is god-awfully drab and boring, but that's just me.

Although Miffy is my all time favourite, but it's so hard to get Miffy clothes for kids! Sad

doley · 09/03/2011 01:06

I spent a lot of time in Japan in my 20's (a while back) .One of my clients ,A VERY GROWN MAN wore a H Kitty tie !!!!! regularly !

In Japan she is thought of with great affection ,EVERYONE loves her there.

My DD (23months) is crazy for her ,I am too :)
Soon we will be having a leather tissue box cover arriving from Hong Kong lol !Grin

Oh and Bullet I love Miffy too ,I didn't know they made any ?
mind you I am in the US at the mo :)

MadamDeathstare, it was my DH what showed it to me. Thankfully, DH is obsessed with martial arts for DD (age 3 months) rather than shooting.

Cadpat · 09/03/2011 03:35

I adore Hello Kitty stuff, and DD just looks adorable in it. DH got her a Hello Kitty rice bowl and mug from Japan and the obsession started from there. She's got the cutest Hello Kitty swimsuit now. Its so cute.

TanteRose · 09/03/2011 04:09

Did you know that Kitty is actually English? She lives just outside London, apparantly...see here

That's why the cartoon has her and her family eating with knives and forks, going on red buses etc.

So you can imagine the shock when Kitty-loving Japanese girls pitch up at Heathrow in the pouring rain....where are the rainbows?? Grin

CarmenSanDiego · 09/03/2011 04:36

MadamDeathstare, Hot Topic often have punky Hello Kitty stuff and I think they deliver to the UK. I have a punk HK t-shirt. Her hair bow has a little skull in the middle and it has the anarchy symbol on the sleeve but with a K instead of an A Grin

Cadpat · 09/03/2011 04:38

OK, now this may be taking it a bit too far :)

Clytaemnestra · 09/03/2011 09:02

doley - exactly. It's a different culture there - I had hello kitty phone charms on my mobile and as many men admired them as women.

Anonymousbird - Grin I love my Hello Kitty cardigan. I bought in Geneva and it was very expensive.

SallyBrownEyes · 09/03/2011 09:22

I am taking my DD to see Peppa Pig live and she is head to toe in Peppa Pig attire Grin

Love HK too, why not let kids enjoy being kids. If they like a character why not indulge them. They are adults soon enough, let them enjoy life before reality sets in I say.

TBH I think MN is full of middle classes, we need a working class MN!

superv1xen · 09/03/2011 10:18

wow can't believe how many fellow not so secret HK addicts there are on MN! Shock

its funny, i actually really dislike all character stuff for kids, other than HK.

bullet awww i LOVE miffy too, i would definitely buy miffy clothes for DD if i could find some! :) and agree with you that boden type stuff is really boring for kids.

better not let the girls get hold of this Wink

cumbria81 · 09/03/2011 10:31

I am shocked that a sane, educated, otherwise perfectly intelligent adult would wear a child's cartoon logo. WHY?!?

Clytaemnestra · 09/03/2011 11:29

cumbria81 - Because I lived for a long time where it's NOT a child's cartoon? No one really had Hello Kitty over here when I left for Japan, when I came back it was everywhere.

I don't dress in full on hello kitty every day, I have a cream cashmere cardigan with a hello kitty face on the pocket and a few pairs of pyjamas. I don't think there is anything wrong with a few cute silly things in your life now and again.

BulletWithAName · 09/03/2011 11:45

Re. Miffy- The only item of Miffy clothing I've been able to find for my daughter on the high street has been in TK Maxx, they sell Miffy pyjamas in there. If you want a big Miffy fix however take a look here. I really want to go to Amsterdam to buy some stuff now!
