AIBU in thinking that Chocolate Weetabix is taking things just a little too far? I thought we were supposed to be feeding our kids healthily!

YANBU, I cringe every time I see the ad for this:
www.krave.com/

withagoat · 08/03/2011 16:56

25 years ago I used to do Market Research. One of them was for cereals, and EVERY child said they hated Cocopops. Hasn't stopped them selling them, though.

god no
mine love those and nesquick
only get em in half terms though

colditz · 08/03/2011 17:05

That krave stuff is, basically, sweets. It's 30% sugar. They have an extremely similar nutritional profile to chocolate digestive biscuits - I'm assuming milk and chocolate biscuits is not considered a meal?

issey6cats · 08/03/2011 17:06

argh no either chocolate or weetabix but together sounds so sickly

colditz · 08/03/2011 17:07

Don't get me wrong - I do buy them. but they are for mid afternoon Saturday foraging, not breakfast! I made a CAKE last night that is healthier than that!

Gemsy83 · 08/03/2011 17:09

Wow its got chocolate in it Shock someone call the poison police.....its also got a huge amount of fibre in..call the COPS

GrimmaTheNome · 08/03/2011 17:11

The chocolate weetabix (the big ones, not the sugary mini ones with chocolate chips) aren't as bad as a lot of cereals... but they aren't chocolaty enough for a good forage either.

colditz · 08/03/2011 17:11

Gemsy, I would get deleted if I responded the way I want to, so I shan't bother.

messagetoyourudy · 08/03/2011 17:12

Chocolate weetabix doesnt have much sugar in it though does it? I thought that was one of it's selling points ?

TBH my kids prefer original weetabix with a layer of sugar on them Smile

lottiejenkins · 08/03/2011 17:24

My ds eats them but i have to be careful and he doesnt have them often. I founda box of chocolate cereal the other day with no additives. DS was very excited, went back to get another box and they were gone!! Sad

Tryharder · 08/03/2011 17:29

I must admit to owning (and eating) a packet of chocolate weetabix but in my defence, they were in the reduced bin at my local convenience store for about 50p (M'lud)

nickelprincess · 08/03/2011 17:29

they already did mini chocolate weetabix.
i didn't like them (it's the lumps)

i like normal weetabix (but then i'm not a child, so...)

nickelprincess · 08/03/2011 17:30

Grimma - i didn't realise these new ones weren't with chips! Shock

i just assuemd they were the same as the mini ones.

(still don't think i'll try them though)

beachholiday · 08/03/2011 17:30

The new oatcakes with dark chocolate chips are excellent though.

GrimmaTheNome · 08/03/2011 17:31

They do have chips, but I think proportionately less - but they don't have the sugariness that all the minis have.

NettoSuperstar · 08/03/2011 17:32

One thing I do let DD have is crap cereal, even Krave, well the Asda own brand one.
I don't eat breakfast at all, so I feel it'd be a bit hypocritical of me to bleat on about healthy breakfast food.

She does eat porridge though, and fruit and natural yog, and such, but likes her shit cereal too.

I believe in a healthy diet, and healthy in this house means balanced.

I balance out the shit cereal days with other, less shit, stuff.

GrimmaTheNome · 08/03/2011 17:33

The new oatcakes with dark chocolate chips are excellent though

who makes those? (tempted to try making some, got some medium oatmeal today for making salt-free oatcakes for DH)

tralalala · 08/03/2011 17:34

yanbu no wonder everyone is getting so lardy

SoupDragon · 08/03/2011 17:34

It's really white simple - if you don't want your children to eat them don't buy them.

Dancergirl · 08/03/2011 17:35

Dd loves those mini weetabix with choc chips in - is that what you mean?

HumphreysCorner · 08/03/2011 17:41

DS alternates between the choc Weetabix and the choc chip minis-he loves them.

GrimmaTheNome · 08/03/2011 17:51

chocolate weetabix is a different thing to minis

The former are a bit less sugary.
