we have them quite often, but to know that this evening all I have to do is cover my table with loads of toppings, fry a few crepes and pancakes and THAT IS ALL - dinner sorted!!! I am smiling already!

YABU to be excited. A little bit happy maYBE.

fruitshootsandheaves · 08/03/2011 19:24

DH bought a new pan last week.

Its too big and too heavy so the pancakes were the size of tractor wheels and the pan too heavy to flip.

Pancakes were nice thou!

The dog liked the lemons...but then he is a bit odd.

jugglingjo · 08/03/2011 19:25

Give it a go - Flour, milk and eggs as someone said.
If in doubt, throw in an extra egg Grin

jugglingjo · 08/03/2011 19:27

And try not to be nervous of a sizzling hot pan Smile

coinoperatedgirl · 08/03/2011 19:31

Just made some for the first time ever and they were actually edible (I'm crap at cooking), very chuffed with myself. There were only a few flames and one smoke alarm incident, a record for me Grin.

jugglingjo · 08/03/2011 19:38

Well done coinoperatedgirl

If a coin operated girl can do it anyone can Grin

Apologies Blush

NinkyNonker · 08/03/2011 19:49

Hmmmm bacon pancakes. Yummy.

And NO to packet mix pancakes, surely they are the easiest thing on the planet?

shrinkingnora · 08/03/2011 19:53

Had ours stuffed with bacon, ricotta, mushrooms and spinach and several with sugar and lemon when the DCs had theirs earlier

jugglingjo · 08/03/2011 19:55

Not that easy, but worth a try !

Mine didn't work out very pancake like this year ... a bit blobby... but still edible, tasty even with the syrup!

Was it a mistake to use self-raising flour ?

Or was it just my pan wasn't hot enough ?

Or could it even be the lack of a recipe ? Grin

Debs75 · 08/03/2011 19:57

had pancakes for after tea and they were great. I cheated and we had some traditional and American mix. The American was the best with blueberries, lemon and pecan syrup.
Eveyone had at least 2, I had 4, even 6 month old dd tried some.
The new frying pan helped, thankyou Kleeneze

cheapskatemum · 08/03/2011 20:10

Yum, yum, yum absolutely love Pancake Day, always have. Saw an ex DP recently & he commented it was one of those quirks he always remembered about me. I add an extra egg, that way the pancakes stay in one piece when I flip them. I'm a golden syrup gal myself, but offer various alternatives for DSs. Only DS3 & 4 in to join the fun tonight. They were divinely appreciative. Bless.

theinet · 08/03/2011 20:13

I love pancake day! Just had some cheese ones. Lemon and sugar coming up soon.

Always raise a smile when i think of the scores of countries where "mardi gras" is celebrated with an enormous party, carnivals, music people going hell for leather to enjoy themselves.....and us Brits.....we

Toss a Pancake! lol !

stream · 08/03/2011 20:15

Mmm, yummy. Just finished ours. Grin

mumbar · 08/03/2011 20:16

YADNBU. Grin

I've had friend and her DD's over. We made one which the DC's had a turn at tossing. Grin

Then kept making them and they just put on what they want.

Very fun. Grin

PercyPigPie · 08/03/2011 20:17

I am a rubbish cook, but I can cook pancakes (all bar the first one which is usually a mess - and I tossed it on the floor and ate it today).

4oz plain flour
1 egg
1/2 pt skimmed milk

My batter was really lumpy today, which it isn't usually, but they still tasted divine Smile

theinet · 08/03/2011 20:26

Actually i just had a Jack Daniels and sugar pancake - had no grandmarnier - was amazing!

peacenow · 08/03/2011 20:59

YES

Minnerva · 08/03/2011 21:04

I will add one thing-BANANAS!
Cushty!!.................

PermaShattered · 08/03/2011 21:43

I don't 'get' packet mixes either! The words fake, artificial and lazy comes to mind for some reason! And anyway, you don't need scales - measure flour with a cup instead.

And Buzz there are far worse things in the world to get so wound up about me thinks!

stealthsquiggle · 08/03/2011 21:52

Piggy stuffed now.

I put a huge pile of sweet stuff in front of the DC (once they had eaten savoury ones) and let them choose whatever they wanted - their faces were a picture Grin

ledkr · 08/03/2011 22:11

Nom nom nom,we had leek and bacon ones then sweet ones, proper hardcore pancaske day Grin
Actually had another one a few weeks ago cos thought it was then so twas a bonus yr for the pancake for me.

mathanxiety · 08/03/2011 22:13

Anyone else mix the crepe batter in a blender?

Ingredients
1 cup cold water
1 cup cold milk
4 eggs
½ tsp salt
1 ½ cups plain flour (scooped and leveled)
4 tablespoons melted butter
Cooking oil (for greasing pan)

Mix in blender, cook on very hot pan. Tossing optional and at your own risk. No endless stirring and blending involved. Takes no time at all. You don't need an American measuring cup set; as long as you use the same container to measure all the ingredients it all works out fine.

I use SofaQueen's American pancake recipe.

moonbells · 09/03/2011 08:25

MMMMMMMMMMM

We demolished quite a stack last night - used a two-egg mixture all up! DS ate two with maple syrup and blueberry puree then declared himself full up! Had others round so we weren't enormously piggy, but great fun.

Must do this again. Any meal which doesn't involve a battle with a toddler is good

nappyaddict · 09/03/2011 15:21

I use:

4 heaped tbsp plain flour
1 egg
1/3 pint skimmed milk and 2/3 pint water
Oil spray
One of those bendy soft plastic spatulas

Makes about 6 crepe style pancakes that never stick and cook in less than a minute because I put my hob on the highest setting.

bossyboop · 10/03/2011 17:53

I use a blender too - oh im super lazy, pancake mix and a blender and I buy ready made biscuits and cakes, I should burn at the stake
