To have *never* cleaned my oven?

I just can't face it. I did actually buy some Mr Muscle oven cleaner but the instructions made it sound so dangerous I shoved it to the back of a cupboard.

When we moved in I loved the almost new and completely spotless range oven in the kitchen - and for a few weeks I would wipe it round after using it. But over time it's got pretty crusty and now I can't see through the glass door anymore.

But the oven cleaner looks so toxic....

my cleaner wipes ours out every fortnight. it doesn't get dirty per se but we use our grill like a toaster (we don't have one) so there are always loads of crumbs.
i love my cleaner.

LittleMissHissyFit · 04/03/2011 22:10

Oven pride is fantastic, really the best thing ever.

I have a new box of the stuff as my oven was getting a bit dirty, I WILL clean it this weekend...YES I WILL!

jenga079 · 04/03/2011 22:26

My mum cleaned mine when I moved in three years ago. Never been done since. I'm hopefully moving soon, so hopefully she'll do the one in that house too, then I'll have at least another three years before I have to think about it.

careergirl · 04/03/2011 23:16

mine is filthy after a month would really hate to leave it much longer than that

budgieshell · 04/03/2011 23:38

Lifes too short to be cleaning ovens.

Its not like the food touches the sides or the bottom. The foods on a tray which is lovely and clean.

Last time I cleaned mine bits fell of it DH told me off so I told him I would never clean it again. So its his fault.

iscream · 05/03/2011 00:08

I have a self cleaning oven now, but before that dh did it. Bad back and asthma occasionally have some good points. Grin

When I rented houses my oven would get cleaned once a year but only because that was when I moved out and needed my deposit back.

When we bought this house they had not bothered to clean the oven and I was not going to make the effort after spending TWO days cleaning the rented house one the week before. I will pay someone to do it when I move out-life is too short

It is hardly unhygienic- every time you turn it on any bugs get fried!

AintMissBeehiving · 05/03/2011 10:02

Oven Pride. It works. No effort and cheap. God, you'd have to be a slattern not to.

LittleMissHissyFit · 05/03/2011 10:55

Oven pride applied this morning... It'll be done by this time tomorrow.

BuzzLiteBeer · 05/03/2011 10:57

I have a man to clean mine.

DH. Grin

Its really unfortunate but I'm not allowed to use chemicals in enclosed spaces so he has to do the fridge and the shower too. Wink

ValiumSingleton · 05/03/2011 10:59

nyanbu.

move house, it's easier.

edam · 05/03/2011 11:02

Grin @ 'move house'.

I don't see the point. Unless sparkling surfaces bring joy to your life. Food is cooked at high temperatures and never actually touches the sides or the shelves so I can't see that it matters how dirty they are.

Greenshadow · 05/03/2011 11:15

Ovens don't get too dirty unless you are cooking something like a roast in it which splatters fat everywhere.

I don't use chemicals - what I do is tip a bit of washing up liquid and water in the slight dip in the bottom of the oven, then turn it on low for a quarter of an hour or so. Then the steam has loosen a lot of the grease and isn't too bad to clean.

squeakytoy · 05/03/2011 11:26

I use my oven every day. Put a large baking tray on the bottom which catches any spills, take that out and put in dishwasher every day, or every other day. Oven itself never needs cleaning.

Fridge gets cleaned once a week before I put the shopping in it.

ambarth · 05/03/2011 11:44

YABU and a slattern. Shock Wink

MooMooFarm · 06/03/2011 15:06

He he - result! DH was snooping over my shoulder when I was on this post the other day - and this morning I got up to find him cleaning the oven out!

He thought I'd been writing about it to make him feeling guilty about him never cleaning it - Confused but also Grin

It looks lovely now, btw!
