She phoned this morning to let DD know that her cat who died last week was being cremated today. DD had already gone to school so I got the full 15 minutes sobbing.
She lives alone, is somewhat eccentric and told me the only thing she had left of the cat were the birthday and christmas cards he had sent her.
I've seen these, they say to Mummy from Patch. I know the cat couldn't write, but just hmmed and ahhhed along.
She is a bit bonkers conkers isn't she?

I posted without reading all the previous story (not sure how I miussed a page)

Revised opinion: I can understand why SIL is upset. SIL may also be bonkers but anyone is allowed to grieve over a losing someone / something they loved.

I don't think SIL should involve her niece. WTF is going on there?

All my family send cards to and from their animals. Including me Blush

Well, for anyone interested we now have a photograph of a wooden box which contains the ashes of the cat and SiL is apparently waiting for us to visit in the summer to allow DD to accompany her to a stonemason to choose a headstone for the cat.
Too much money, too much time, too bad she won't be getting DD involved.

That's not really appropriate is it, to get your DD to support her on the (doubtless very upsetting) trip to the stonemason.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/03/2011 13:22

Of course it isn't appropriate, my SiL is a tiny bit self obsessed.
It is all just not going to happen, I have deleted the email that she sent with the photo.

When my DSis's boyfriend's family cat died last year, they had to book time off work and fly from London to Ireland (where the cat lived with boyfriend's parents) to attend the funeral. I thought that was pretty crackers. I was amazed my sister went with him, she'd only met the cat once or twice!
