I think it is too hard to rehome an animal

I bought a puppy a few months ago and I really love him - he was the right choice for us. He cost £100.

He was vacc's and I will pay to have him castrated soon.

He has been such a success that I have been looking into getting him a companion. I would like to help a dog and rescue them but they want stupid amounts of money and loads of home vists.

I am just put off, and it is a shame because I could easily home another dog and give him a good life.

I think I will just buy another puppy I am afraid.

ilovesooty - well what is a "puppy farm dog"? Dog was in a litter of 2 - I know the people who took his brother, I know the person my ex-DH bought Dog from. Didn't see any farm.

But I forgot: you're not a very patient person. I expect you couldn't wait till the school holidays.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/03/2011 01:02

or the weekend Ilovesooty - Mayhew is open weekends for booked appointments.

And Mayhew say that they will arrange a mutually convenient time for the home visit.

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 01:03

thought we were only bashing my dog owning skills - lets leave the parenting for another time eh?

Yes, I'm VERY familiar with London.

I'm also faamiliar with the practices of backyard breeders like your friend, who are one step away from puppy farmers.

I'm equally familiar with the expectations of people like the Mayhew, which are perfecty reasonable and responsible.

BooyFuckingHoo · 03/03/2011 01:05

hans, why would you pay more than £150 for a puppy but can't justify it for a rescue dog?

Vallhala · 03/03/2011 01:07

So hang on... the Mayhew didn't require "loads of home visits" either did it? Hmm

It gave you just ONE!

ilovesooty · 03/03/2011 01:15

"they want stupid amounts of money"

£150 including all vaccs, chipping, neutering...you paid £100 from your "breeder" friend and still have neutering (and insurance) to buy...

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 01:16

Val - a backyard breeder? He had a couple of puppies who he micro'd, and 2 times vacc'd and fed for 12 weeks and wanted £100. I don't think so.

OK - yes the Mayhew - made me visit them, then made me visit the foster carer, then came for a home visit, then no dog at the end of it.

Not a puppy, a 10 year old.

So, 3 visits either way.

Vallhala · 03/03/2011 01:18

HANS, YES, A BACKYARD BREEDER!

ilovesooty · 03/03/2011 01:19

Well, Im certainly with those who can't see why you posted this in AIBU.

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 01:19

A nice guy who looked after a couple of pups and micro'd them and vacc'd them.

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/03/2011 01:19

But you only had one HOME visit Hmm

Ilovesooty - Mayhew is £120........not £150

BooyFuckingHoo · 03/03/2011 01:19

"I bought a puppy a few months ago and I really love him - he was the right choice for us."

i have to say, this made me chuckle. there was no choosing involved. your ExDH bought him from a friend whose dog happened to have pups. you didn't decide you wanted to give a dog a good life an go and choose the dog that best suited your family. this dog was convenient so you took it.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/03/2011 01:20

and of course he's a backyard breeder - he had puppies that were born and bred in his backyard Confused

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 01:20

ilovesooty - because there is no response anywhere else on the board.

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/03/2011 01:21

well = come on now Booy - there were 2 puppies you know................HmmWink

BooyFuckingHoo · 03/03/2011 01:22

backyard breeders dont all have dirty finger nails and scars on their faces you know. you pass them everyday on the street, tehy don't wear a label telling you what they are, they pass themselves off as proper breeders or even just a family that has bred from their pet. they are BACKYARD BREEDERS!!

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 01:22

Perhaps they were in his frontyard.

OP posts:
Vallhala · 03/03/2011 01:22

Hans, do you not see why Mayhew might not have had a dog available for you after all?

Really, can you not see it?

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 01:23

Well Dog is a lovely dog and he had to go somewhere.

OP posts:
Vallhala · 03/03/2011 01:24

Give us a T... give us an R... give us an O...

ilovesooty · 03/03/2011 01:24

I stand corrected, Baroque

So you din't buy or choose your present dog. Still, I expect your children didn't have to take a day off school for this convenient transaction.

BooyFuckingHoo · 03/03/2011 01:24

oh that's right baroque

"Hmm, this convenient puppy that we can't afford, and know nothing about or this one?"
