To think I may have had a miscarriage?

namechangedforthisadvice · 01/03/2011 22:42

I've namechanged as my mother and MIL are both on here.

I had thought that I might be pregnant by a few weeks, DH and I weren't exactly trying, but weren't exactly not trying either. Putting it this way - it would have been a very happy accident.

I had an extremely light period three weeks ago... 1 day of hardly anything, and my breasts were swollen and I felt some slight period pains until yesterday (so for three weeks) which I remember from my first.

I didn't take a test because I don't smoke / haven't been drinking etc... And the first time round I found out straight away and the wait until the scan was torture so I was tentatively keeping an eye on it with an eye to testing when my period is due in 5 days time.

This morning I was shopping and had such a sharp pain in my... I want to almost say pelvic bone and bumcheek :s it was so bad I had to lean on the counter in the shop I was in and wait there for about ten minutes.

I came home and have felt awful all day... So incredibly tired, periody pains and just freezing cold... Even though DH assures me it's boiling in here and DD feels warm to the touch.

I went to the bathroom an hour ago and I'm really bleeding. I know I'm not due for 5 days but can it just come early?

Is it just silly to think this? If it had happened would I be sure?

What should I do??

Sorry, no useful advice but bumping for you.

MogadoredMemoo · 01/03/2011 22:51

Sweetheart this might not be the best place to post this, have you had a look at the miscarriage board?

namechangedforthisadvice · 01/03/2011 22:52

I will, thanks.

It's under 'Body and Soul'. Hope you get some good advice and sorry for what you're going through.

worraliberty · 01/03/2011 22:53

I'm afraid the only way to tell is to buy a pregnancy test.

coccyx · 01/03/2011 22:54

may just be a bad period

LadyOfTheManor · 01/03/2011 22:55

BUMP

How heavy is the blood loss? Are you soaking a pad an hour? Is it heavier than your usual period? Have you taken your temperature? Have you got pain anywhere else?

It may be an early period. It might be a MC. I'm not an expert - so its possible it could be something else.

As I say, I'm no expert, but I think that if it were me I'd be getting advise - either through my out of hours GP, the NHS Direct Symptom Checker or by calling NHS Direct (0845 4647).

You sound worried and you've got things happening that aren't normal for you. There's nothing to loose by getting advice.

Fingers crossed for you.

FabbyChic · 01/03/2011 22:56

Periods can be early, the pain you mention is a nerve pain.

YOu can test now for pregnancy and if you are/were it will come back positive.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 01/03/2011 22:56

Or it could be ectopic pregnancy. You need medical help in the morning.

pigletmania · 01/03/2011 22:56

Yes go to the MC board they are so good, i had 2, one a month ago. Big hugs to youxx

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 01/03/2011 22:57

Yes, NHS direct, good call.

namechangedforthisadvice · 01/03/2011 22:58

Ok, thanks everyone.

No idea what the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy are but if it could be that then don't wait until the morning. Ectopic pregnancies can be fatal for the mother.

Don't want to alarm you but you may need to get some professional advice pronto.

worraliberty · 01/03/2011 22:59

I don't think anyone on the MC board is going to tell the OP any different? No matter who posts their opinion, the fact will remain that no-one will know unless the OP does a test.

TattyDevine · 01/03/2011 23:02

If it were me, I would be going to 24 hour Tesco for a test, to firstly ascertain if I was/were/am pregnant. I know this is confrontational and painful to do, but it would help (probably) ease my mind if it came back negative, it would reduce the "panic" factor a bit, and it would help rule out scary things like ectopics (or ascertain how likely this was)

I honestly think if you were to go to a doctor right now (just say hypothetically there was one open!) the first thing they'd do is test your urine to see if it is possibly pregnancy related. They'd do that before they scanned you, I would have thought.

I would call NHS direct and speak to them whilst you send your DH out to buy a test, that is what I would do my love. Hope you are okay whatever it is.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 01/03/2011 23:03

What are the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy?

These are often difficult to distinguish, meaning that an ectopic pregnancy is not always straightforward to diagnose, but you should look out for:

  1. A missed or late period.
  2. A positive urine pregnancy test.
  3. Abdominal pain ? this can be persistent and severe. It may be on one side only, but not necessarily on the side where the ectopic is.
  4. Shoulder tip pain.
  5. Abnormal bleeding ? this may be lighter or heavier than a normal period, and more prolonged. This bleeding is often dark in colour & watery (similar to prune juice).
  6. Diarrhoea or sometimes pain when opening the bowels.
  7. Fainting, or feeling dizzy or light headed.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 01/03/2011 23:04

Yes, Tatty gives good advice.

namechangedforthisadvice · 01/03/2011 23:05

Ok, I was going to wait until morning but I'll send DH out now.

Thanks.

Good luck. Do ring NHS direct too, they take a while to get back to you.

namechangedforthisadvice · 01/03/2011 23:47

I'm waiting for NHS direct to ring me back.

The bleeding has stopped! Just less than 1 pad... What does this mean? I'm still in pain.

OP posts:
worraliberty · 01/03/2011 23:50

Has your OH got you a test yet?

I'm sorry but no-one not even NHS direct can tell you if you're having a miss carriage if you don't know whether you're pregnant or not.

namechangedforthisadvice · 01/03/2011 23:56

No... Stupidly went to the garage (??) and they didn't have any so getting one in the morning.

OP posts:
worraliberty · 02/03/2011 00:00

Then I'm so sorry but even NHS direct won't be able to tell you Sad

All I can advise is keep your feet raised (perhaps lie on the couch with some cushions under them) and grab a hot water bottle for the pain.
