To not want his head shaved

Lifegoeson · 01/03/2011 14:38

To a no.1 all over, DS has just turned 2, relations with XP are fairly amicable and I would like to keep this way.

He has shaved hair, like a lot gents, and he wears it well, but I think it makes DS look like a little 'hardnut', not a look that I like on a baby, he thinks DS looks cute with much the same 'do'. I want to try and raise it with him calmly, so need some help in how to handle this as altho things are amicable, he is quite feisty and may well create...

Any ideas/thoughts on how to approach this wise and wonderful ladies?

MTIA.

Compromise with a number 4?

BadRoly · 01/03/2011 14:44

Use the cooler weather as an excuse at the moment? You are concerned he would get too cold in this inbetween weather - too warm for hat... type nonsense? Then when it is summer you can be worried about sunburn...

diddl · 01/03/2011 14:51

It´s not a "style" that I like at all tbh.

I think there are very few who it really suits.

Does your ex want a "mini me"?

worraliberty · 01/03/2011 14:53

I'd go for a number 4 or short at the sides and longer and spikey on top.

Vallhala · 01/03/2011 14:55

Yes... approach it by telling the ex that unless he has shared care the day to day decisions on your child such as a simple haircut are yours to make, not his, and that it isn't going to happen.

yey go Vallhala

mmsmum · 01/03/2011 14:58

I don't like it on little boys, they look like neds/chavs, and your DS is far too young to look like that.

Good point about sunburn and being cold.

I always thought Mums had charge over hair, it seems that way. Tell your ex it's the law, Mums have hair rights lol

MappandLucia · 01/03/2011 14:59

I HATE boys with shaved heads - they look like mini thugs.

Vallhala · 01/03/2011 14:59

Sorry - a bit strident there but I really can't stand that style of haircut.

I'm also remarkably biased by virtue of the fact that too many absent fathers want a say in the day to day care of children but not enough want to actually get off their arses and do the caring 24/7 as women do.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 01/03/2011 14:59

Grin at Zukie telling her (old enough to leave home) DS that he must have his hair cut with scissors. Sorry, that just made me laugh! No offense intended! :)

AllGoodNamesGone · 01/03/2011 15:00

YANBU. Grown men can carry the style off, little boys can't - they look like thugs (imho)!

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 01/03/2011 15:10

Number 1 all over is a bit too short IMO. DS has no 3 on the sides and no 5 on top and he is 5 years old. He gets very very hot and sweaty from very little physical activity so I feel that it is more hygenic than long hair over his ears. As he hates having his hair cut as well, it means that I can leave it longer between haircuts Grin

FunnysInTheGarden · 01/03/2011 15:13

No, no, no. YANBU. Babies with shaved heads are bleurgh

LineRunner · 01/03/2011 15:21

Also, where I live most of the schools classify a grade 1 as an 'extreme' haircut and ban it, I presume precisely because of the negative image it can convey. Agree with all above. You should say what haircut your son is to have - it'll be you taking him to school, dealing with the school, and every other bloody time-consuming thing, in years to come. Get into the habit now of saying how it's going to be, as it'll be you always dealing with the day-to-day fall-out, won't it? After all, it's not as if you are being unreasonable.

Lifegoeson · 01/03/2011 16:15

Thanks everyone, I didn't want to mention the C word, but I think all he needs is an earing and that'd def b the look!

Yes, mini thug is exactly what I think, he looks gorge with hair, and a bit baldy and weirdy with none!

Thanks much! - Wish me luck!

Can´t get onto your profile, OP!

GloriaSmut · 01/03/2011 16:27

Hate, hate, hate shaved heads on men. Regardless of their age.

So just say, diplomatically, that since this sort of haircut isn't acceptable at schools nowadays, there's little point in forcing it on your ds now. Or, if you dare to be undiplomatic, tell your ex-P that hell will freeze over before he turns your child into a mini-ned.

Lifegoeson · 01/03/2011 20:32

I think I have made profile public now diddl?!

OP posts:
supadupapupascupa · 01/03/2011 20:34

your profile isn't public

redpanda13 · 01/03/2011 21:40

Only balding men look good with shaved hair. No need for it on a little boy.

LittleMissHissyFit · 01/03/2011 22:57

Honey he looks adorable with hair, it'd take away all that lovely cuteness if he has a shaved head.

He has no need for it. My DS has curly hair, he suits a Number 4, if it grows much longer than that he has tight curls and ends up looking like a bit of a lamb.. Grin

I do his hair myself, with clippers, if he had hair like your boy's, I wouldn't do it.

Stick to your guns, say NO.

AllGoodNamesGone · 02/03/2011 01:22

Aw, he's lovely Grin leave his hair alone, Dad!
