To not want his head shaved

Lifegoeson · 01/03/2011 14:38

To a no.1 all over, DS has just turned 2, relations with XP are fairly amicable and I would like to keep this way.

He has shaved hair, like a lot gents, and he wears it well, but I think it makes DS look like a little 'hardnut', not a look that I like on a baby, he thinks DS looks cute with much the same 'do'. I want to try and raise it with him calmly, so need some help in how to handle this as altho things are amicable, he is quite feisty and may well create...

Any ideas/thoughts on how to approach this wise and wonderful ladies?

MTIA.

He is adorable, I wouldn't allow ot shaved either. He will only be a sweet baby for a few short years, then may want to be like daddy. May as well get your mommy fix of baby hair cuteness before he comes home with a pierced eyebrow and mohawk! (kidding)

patiencenotmyvirtue · 02/03/2011 04:10

Tell him it makes him look like a poor child.

It was a mark of shame of the nit-tastic back in the day.

PenguinArmy · 02/03/2011 04:24

He looks lovely just as he is

Goblinchild · 02/03/2011 06:48

My son had a head of thick hair for years. It cgave him a lot of protection when he fell over, ran into things and generally didn't take care.

diddl · 02/03/2011 09:09

Oh, just got round to looking at pic.

He´s gorgeous & if it´s a recent photo, his hair looks great as it is.

TBH, it looks so fine that if it´s shaved I think he´ll look bald.

mumofone1984 · 02/03/2011 09:11

I accidentally gave my 3 yr old ds a buzz cut, he loves it coz he thinks he looks like daddy but im not so keen it makes him look much older and he looks like a thug lol

my ds has inherited my dh's mad hair, which grows wildly in every direction once past an inch long. I thus have to resort to a 'buzz' cut, and because of the moaning when I do it, I do a no2 so that I don't have to do it every other week. Picture on profile, he is 5, does he look thug-like or chavvy? (ducks below parapet in preparation for onslaught...)

Quenelle · 02/03/2011 09:19

Good luck Lifegoeson. Your DS is absolutely gorgeous - with or without hair - but I'd feel the same way as you.

privategodfrey · 02/03/2011 09:26

Schools can ban haircuts? What do they do - suspend you until it's grown back?

In many cases, yes :)

I like cropped hair on men and boys but a no. 1 is waaaay too short especially for a blonde like your son (what a cutie btw).

privategodfrey · 02/03/2011 09:28

Various hair-related suspensions listed here

LibraPoppyGirl · 02/03/2011 09:31

Awww Lifegoeson he is absolutely gorgeous Smile and I agree with diddl his hair does look really fine and I think it would look bald if shaved Shock. Leave it as it is Meany Dad Wink.

sexbombbikerchick your little man is a handsome devil isn't he Smile I think he looks good with his haircut as he's that bit older and his hair is definitely not as fine as Lifegoeson's DS, plus it's not that short at all.

FWIW I don't like shaved hair, my DP shaves his hair as he just can't be bothered with it any other way. When it's a 'fresh shave' I hate it...yuk yuk yuk Sad

melikalikimaka · 02/03/2011 09:35

No 2 on the sides and blended on top, that's short enough for me.

Quenelle · 02/03/2011 09:45

In the 70s they would suspend any child with a shaved head from our primary school. It was the days of Skinheads though.

paulapantsdown · 02/03/2011 09:51

My dh has about a 3 hairs on his head, and he still goes to the barber for a proper haircut - the shaved ook is nasty on grown men, never mind a beautiful little boy.

Your boy will look like someone from a concentration camp - horrible. Why would anyone want to make a child look like like on purpose for crying out loud - tell him NO

paulapantsdown · 02/03/2011 09:54

i just looked at his phot - he is soooo beautiful!

please dont let your ex do it!

Honeydragon · 02/03/2011 09:58

My ds is 7 and annoyinglyy can really pull of very short hair but I won't let him have it done because of the image if portrays iyswim. He has had it very short and in the wrong clothes does look like a chav hardnut/poor of the parish, as I have the nits / shaved association from my own childhood. Point out that he's only little and it would be more fun to do if and when he asks to be like Daddy by himself, perhaps?

Pinkjenny · 02/03/2011 10:05

My ds has beautiful hair, really shaggy and gorgeous, he is 14mo. Dh is constantly banging on about getting it cut. Over my dead body.

SmethwickBelle · 02/03/2011 10:24

DS1's had a number four or five done by my own fair hand with clippers since he was about 16 months. I was fed up with hairdressers cutting off three wisps from the head of a struggling toddler and charging me a fiver.

I don't think it looks thuggish at the four/five clipper sort of length, maybe other people disagree. It is just so easy to do and practical. Will do the same with DS2 I imagine.

ThistleDoNicely · 02/03/2011 10:45

What a cutie! Why would anyone think his hair needs to be shorter? It's not exactly long as it is.
I love shaved/short hair on men, but there's no need with such young boys. It's perfectly neat as it is.

OTheHugeManatee · 02/03/2011 10:52

Nooooo! Don't let him do it! Your beautiful baby boy will look like the nursery wing of the Hitler Youth Sad

TheLadyEvenstar · 02/03/2011 12:07

I have given DS1 a number 2 since he was 2yrs old as he has a thick mass of curls BUT they are not like DS2's which grow in gorgeous ringlets more of an afro grow big bushy and round so I have to shave it. I am not keen on it but alas thats the only option Sad

On a side note DS2 is 3.5yrs and only had 1 haircut.

Please don't let him have his way and scalp him, I have no choice and I hate it!!!

scaryteacher · 02/03/2011 12:14

Ds had a number 1 once when there was a nit problem and it was the best way to see and treat the little buggers. Never again thereafter and it is now 11 years since he had it.

Nagoo · 02/03/2011 12:17

aah... he's so cute. PLEASE don't let him do it.
