to detest the term 'fraped'

Not sure if this has been done on Mumsnet before but the term 'fraped' on Facebook makes me fume. And its not just teenagers that use it, it seems to just be the accepted by all as the phrase to be used when someone has been hacked.

Language evolves, but people's feelings are allowed to take precedent. Because as this thread shows, the vast majority dislike it. And not in an 'ooh that word makes my teeth itch' way but in a very visceral way. You can stand by and let all sorts of things 'evolve' but on occasion it's better to educate and question and adapt. Because we live in a shared society and the beauty of a wonderful language is that we have the power to not offend vast swathes of people if we choose not to.

Bunbaker · 01/03/2011 17:22

I have never heard of this term before. Is it only on Facebook?

noddyholder · 01/03/2011 17:23

My ds and his mates say it all teh time.Awful

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2011 17:26

Bunbaker it means 'facebook raped'. It's a fb thing.

shmoz · 01/03/2011 17:28

can't stand it, but I also hate the word 'frappuccino' so maybe I've got a thing about words starting with 'frap'..

huddspur · 01/03/2011 22:52

I don't have an issue with it to be honest.

musicmadness · 02/03/2011 00:01

It doesn't bother me - and I'm speaking as someone who has been raped. Its just a word and language is continually evolving.

MavisEnderby · 02/03/2011 00:06

What does this mean actually?

Person i know used it recently. They are not horrid. In fact would never use it as a derogatory term.

Thanks for info

oldieneedsreminding · 02/03/2011 00:07

fraped describes the action perfectly. why would you be annoyed by such an appropriate descriptor?

MavisEnderby · 02/03/2011 00:12

I speak as someone who was gang raped when I was at University and the term does not bother me. It is, after all, a word. Language changes and I don't think it trivalises rape in any way.

ambarth · 02/03/2011 10:08

YANBU

ladysybil · 02/03/2011 21:42

i dont know about what sort of person came up with it, but the sort of people who use it, are those who dont associate it with the act of rape. its a describing word that means your facebook account has been hacked into and jokingly changed.
the term hacking isnt used because that is more sinister and nasty

JamaicaGeisha · 02/03/2011 21:51

The word rape, used in these contexts, makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. I think it is disgusting.

People need to be educated. Those who have not experienced it, don't understand even 1% of it.

GotArt · 02/03/2011 21:58

Fraped?!! This is the first I've heard of it... What the hell is wrong with using hacked?

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 02/03/2011 22:00

Generally to be fraped you wouldnt have been hacked, you would have left your facebook logged in and unattended.

I dislike it too.

Just to point out, men get raped too. Not necessary only offensive to women.

Curiousmama · 02/03/2011 23:53

Fhacked would be more appropriate. Detest it too. Even more so when adults use it Hmm

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 03/03/2011 22:36

True Heathcliff. I do quite like Fhacked or Facked or Fabohacked Grin
