AIBU to be annoyed with Asda Home Delivery

Did a grocery shop online on Sunday for delivery this evening as my car was at the garage and DH is out at his Triathlon Club. Anyway, it's arrived and out of the 10 fresh food items ordered, one is split so can't be used and 6 are dated to be used by 1 March, i.e. tomorrow. How can they expect it to be OK that food only has 1 days grace (less considering the delivery was about 9pm tonight). I know the risk is you don't get a huge amount of leeway with the dates but seriously, one day ???

YANBU asda are shit had countless problems when I;ve used them

sainsburys and tesco IME always give you acceptable use by dates

flybynight · 28/02/2011 21:22

Phone them and complain - the cost of the about to expire goods may well be refunded to you. Can you freeze any of them as well? But definitely complain. I've been in this situation before (with Sainsbury, I think) and they were very apologetic.

And YANBU. Its grocery shopping, not a lottery.

jazzchickens · 28/02/2011 21:27

YADNBU - if you had been shopping in store those items would very likely have been on the reduced aisle.

Definitely complain big time.

COCKadoodledooo · 28/02/2011 21:27

Complain. Last time I did they refunded the shortdated items (and I got about £15 back from a £50 shop, so you can see why I wasn't impressed!).

Not using them again though.

theredhen · 28/02/2011 21:28

YANBU, phone up and complain. They are very good once you actually get through to them.

I order every week from Asda and find them much better than Tesco for actually sending the stuff you order rather than a load of very odd substitutes Hmm. My only one gripe is manky bananas which seem to be a regular. Always get them refunded if they are manky.

Maybe certain branches are better than others

minibmw2010 · 28/02/2011 21:32

Thanks, I didn't think I was BU but I figured while I was on hold to Asda I'd check ... been on hold 20 minutes now. We've done orders with them before and they've been absolutely brilliant so I had no reason to assume it'd be any different this time, very disappointing really.

mmsmum · 28/02/2011 21:35

YANBU at all, I agree you need to phone and complain but you have been 20 minutes on hold! Shock I hope it's freephone! Keep holding though and get it sorted

I haven;='t used Asda but have used Tesco a few times and each time had a problem so I stick to Sainsburys now, it seems to be the best for me

DizzyKipper · 28/02/2011 22:00

theredhen you have the option to accept no substitutes when ordering from tesco, that's what I always did - didn't trust them not to be lazy and give me whatever was closest to hand.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 28/02/2011 22:03

Tesco always tell me if there are short-dated items in my shopping, and will take them back if I am unhappy. Usually I freeze the short-dated items and have never had a problem with this.

It is a communication issue, imo - they should have told you there were short dated items so you could have dealt with it there and then.

Figgyrolls · 28/02/2011 22:07

I had a problem with asda on saturday, rude delivery driver for a start, then the only thing delivered was Diet Coke, had ordered some wine online with them as it was nice and we are christening ds on sunday. So sat night arrives and so does the DC but none of the wine. Fine but why deliver the dc and NOTHING else without first telling us? No communication. I hope you get your money back op.

wannabesybil · 28/02/2011 22:09

OP - has your order come from a different depot?

I used to get internet grocery deliveries all the time from Sainsburys, they were great, the fresh stuff was fresh, the delivery men were pleasant and helpful, had no problem. Then I got switched to a different depot (apparently my postcode got hived off to the other store) and the standard dropped through the floor. I found out what had happened when the delivery man let me hump forty litres of liquid down six stone steps with one arm clearly and unmistakeably in a sling. In the past the delivery men had been happy to help if I had been in a bad way. I rang to complain and found out then.

I now find Asda great.

My uncle has no problems with Tesco, what I think of the local tesco deliveries is not fit to type, not even for mumsnet. I think it really all does depend on the depot.

Newgolddream · 28/02/2011 22:15

Generally Im happy with Asda online deliveries. However on saturday he was putting the bags in my hall, I was transferring them to my kitchen when I noticed him putting individual tins in the hall, got some muttered explanation about the bag bursting - he left loads of tins all over the floor. After he left I went out to the garden and kept finding rogue tins that he had missed lol.

Plus the money that came off my bank was £179, order delivered was only £162 as some items were out of stock, explanation from call centre was basically I had to wait 7-10 working days for difference to be refunded, seems a bit of a long time to wait to me.

bloomingnora · 28/02/2011 22:18

Apparently Tesco have no appropriate substitution for the bag of apples I ordered. Yep, no other bags of apples. Or single ones they could put in a bag Hmm Today's order was clearly picked by a complete fool. They also have randomly sent me 8 extra pints of milk that I have not been charged for and replaced 1kg of value oats with 3 x 500g bags of slightly nicer oats and refunded me the difference. It's nuts but hey, I have lots of free food...

Yes Tesco are great. They always point out the food that's within a day or two of its sell by date and refund straight away if you refuse it.

Just for future reference, the delivery driver told me that Mondays are the worst of all for substitutes as they tend to sell out at weekends.

fifi25 · 28/02/2011 22:38

Ive had the same problems. My freezer stuff was defrosted and the dates were crap. If you do a tesco and type in picker notes 'good dates please' they give you the good dates. Ive got an asda coming tommorow as had 12 weeks of tesco so thought id give it one last go (worried now). Also with tesco ive got £40 worth of points which im using for xmas shop. I much prefer tesco, never had any problems and get great subs Smile

NestaFiesta · 28/02/2011 22:52

Asda home delivery is shit. Every single time without fail, I have been given defrosted ice cream and defrosted meat. When I complain to the driver, they get stroppy and tell me its minus 11 in the van. They then tell me that the freezer is switched off completely every time they stop to do a delivery.

How can they get away with this? I have complained seven times and I have once got free delivery and once got a fiver off. They admitted it was a health and safety thing and did bugger all. I'm not using them anymore. I've got a £15 off Sainsburys voucher so going to give them a go.

worraliberty · 28/02/2011 22:55

I like the way Tesco don't charge you extra for more expensive subs. Do all supermarkets do this?

chillichill · 28/02/2011 23:06

worra- Asda do too

mueslimuncher · 28/02/2011 23:19

I bloody hate Asda. I stopped ordering from them online when I was 7 months pregnant. The driver was rude and moaned like hell about bringing bags upto my flat, so I carried most of it up. The food tastes like shite too. I prefer Tesco.

IHateLivingHere · 01/03/2011 09:09

I had a Tesco delivery last night and ordered the BOGOF Hot Cross Buns. Noticed this morning that all twelve have to be eaten today.......

Oh well, I suppose I can manage that Wink Bring on the Lurpak...

IHateLivingHere · 01/03/2011 09:14

Just as an aside, do any of you feel like you should tip the driver? Or actually do it? I never know whether I should and always feel slightly embarrassed.

? Smile

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/03/2011 09:14

I'll help, if you like, IHate. Out of the kindness of my heart, of course! Grin

IHateLivingHere · 01/03/2011 09:15

Okay Staying, I'll get the kettle on.... Grin

minibmw2010 · 01/03/2011 10:02

After finally getting through I have had a refund on about £20 of the delivery (pretty much all of the fresh food, bar the 12 muller rices which I didn't notice had a date of tomorrow on them). I guess they see home delivery as another way of mugging off the old food on people, very annoying. I was hoping to use them more regularly when I go on maternity leave but it'll be Tesco or Sainsbury from now on I think.
